Revision as of 14:05, 30 November 2012

If you have come here to post a long, profane rant about either me or some aspect of Misplaced Pages, I have no objections, as I think it's helpful to vent sometimes. I ask that you only 1. refrain from making personal attacks about other editors (besides me) and 2. avoid posting anything that might be construed as outing. Other than that, you may freely tell me that some guideline is a "fucking pain in the goddamned ass", or that my work was "a fucking pile of goddamn shit" as long as you have a reason why you think so- personal attacks don't bother me if they are made discussing a legitimate issue. I have no aversion to swearing myself, so don't post anything about me (or anything else, for that matter) that you wouldn't want to hear me say about you (obviously, warnings and the like are exempt from this). I will use your posts as the threshold for any particular conversation- if you ask me to tone down my language, I also have no objections.

Unban

I've just found out that "Discretionary sanctions imposed under these provisions may be appealed to the imposing administrator". I thought I'd give you the chance to unban me before I start filling in the paperwork.Momento (talk) 06:58, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
I think it has to be done here Misplaced Pages:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification_and_Amendment. I succesfully appealed my topic ban there for a different subject, but only after waiting several years. (And now I lost interest in the subject.) Andries (talk) 11:32, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Greetings Andries. BoNL can unban if he wants to.Momento (talk) 12:15, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes, BoNL can indeed entertain removal of the discretionary sanctions - after a minimum of 6 months have passed since they were implemented. Arbs typically won't entertain such as well until either the same time has passed, or there's an obvious error in implementing them. Based on the topic, however, that's a rarity (✉→BWilkins←✎) 12:21, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
I can't see any six month minimum.Momento (talk) 19:23, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
I have just recently found out that my section on the Aurora Youth Soccer Club was ban, and I wanted to inform you that I am writing this page for a course in university where I am trying to promote this organization because they are a large part to . It was informing readers about this soccer program and how they can develop their soccer skills, along with their personal developments. Just was thinking maybe it can stay on for a few weeks to see the feedback from others readers. If it does not receive proper feedback by December 5th it can be deleted? Thank you and please take my thoughts into consideration as it is for a project. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nbess996 (talkcontribs) 20:30, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Mentioned at WT:Arbitration/Requests

Your name is mentioned in a discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:Arbitration/Requests#Prem Rawat. The names of the four newly-sanctioned editors can be seen at the bottom of Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/Prem Rawat 2#Log of blocks, bans, and restrictions. In my opinion, the four editors should consider filing arbitration enforcement appeals at WP:AE. There is some amount of confusion there, and I sense that some of the participants are not eager to hear what is being said. Anyway, the reason for a discussion at WT:A/R is that it is linked as the talk page of WP:AE. Who knew? Anyway you can respond in the mentioned thread if you want. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 18:00, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

AE - Logiphile

This editor continues to edit in a tendentious manner and employ unsuitable sources. A swift resolution at AE to prevent further disruption would be appreciated.Ankh.Morpork 13:35, 18 November 2012 (UTC) And has now removed sourced content and misrepresented a source. Lovely; I'll shut it down now. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:36, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
I thought I'd award you this. Just my way of saying thank you for helping me fight vandalism with soap articles. Keep editing! :-) Creativity97 22:05, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

JSTOR

Hi there. You're one of the first 100 people to sign up for a free JSTOR account via the requests page. We're ready to start handing out accounts, if you'd still like one.

JSTOR will provide you access via an email invitation, so to get your account, please email me (swalling@wikimedia.org) with...

  • the subject line "JSTOR"
  • your English Misplaced Pages username
  • your preferred email address for a JSTOR account

The above information will be given to JSTOR to provide you with your account, but will otherwise remain private. Please do so by November 30th or drop me a message to say you don't want/need an account any longer. If you don't meet that deadline, we will assume you have lost interest, and will provide an account to the next person in the rather long waitlist.

Thank you! Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 22:59, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

I did a copyedit to your closing message at WP:AE re Logiphile

See this. Note that I did this as a regular admin, not an AC clerk, so feel free to re-adjust if you believe I performed it erroneously. - Penwhale | 01:15, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

No objections from me. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 01:36, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the quick unblock. Just to confirm, I should stay away from those articles for 2 days or ten? Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:40, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Two; that was the duration of the block, so two is good. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:07, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Portal talk:Current events/2008 April 4

You kindly deleted Portal talk:Current events/2008 April 4 for me a couple of weeks ago after I tagged it as vandalism. Can you check whether today's recreation has similar content to the version that was deleted? If it is, then I guess a block might be appropriate, since I gave a final warning to 67.212.16.181 (talk · contribs). This is getting quite tedious - have a look at User:John of Reading/CSD log, October onwards. Please respond here, I'll be watching. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:09, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

It's similar enough that I'm about 100% certain it's the same person; I'll block the IP, and if he comes back let me know. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 15:51, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Aurangzeb

I appealed to Dougweller as the last active admin to have semi-protected Aurangzeb - see User_talk:Dougweller#Aurangzeb. He has edited a little today since that appeal for assistance but has not responded. I do not want to mither. Can you assist or would you prefer me to take it to RFPP? - Sitush (talk) 17:19, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

I think I can handle it; funny that I was just reading a voluminous biography of Shah Jahan this morning. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:00, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Great, thanks. What was the bio? I doubt that you are getting much content work done right now but perhaps I can pick up on it. I'm really looking forward to the JSTOR access for things such as this - not much longer now! - Sitush (talk) 18:12, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
It's a 17th century account of his reign called The Shah Jahan Nama of 'Inayat Khan: An Abridged History of the Mughal Emporer Shah Jahan. Not an easy book to get ahold of, and it took some pulling strings though the library of my alma mater to get it on an interlibrary loan, but I finally got it just in time for our annual propaganda holiday. I'm hoping I can be of some use content-wise on it at some point, though my immediate priority is to use another enormous book I just finished to do some much-needed work on Soong May-ling. And like you, I eagerly await the JSTOR access; it'll make my research so much easier. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 05:29, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Good morning. Hope you had a nice holiday. When you get the chance, I believe we're ready for you to start looking this over. Rivertorch (talk) 16:15, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Should be able to take care of it tomorrow. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 06:09, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanksgiving

Can you please explain why you reverted my edits? The introduction of the article is confusing. MOst articles need to state in one quick line 'What is this' which the article doesnt do Vibhabamba (talk) 19:16, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Form 2E

It looks like I am heading for another prolonged discussion at Form 2E, involving someone of whom you have recent experience wrt reviewing prolonged discussions. Sigh. - Sitush (talk) 05:14, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

No worries: others have stepped in. - Sitush (talk) 07:45, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
... and then strike the above! It is becoming a mire. - Sitush (talk) 10:41, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
I'll drop in there a little later on; should be fun :p. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 19:01, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
I've tried to put a stop to it and they have gone away at the moment, They may just be sleeping. Probably best to leave it alone, though, until it starts up again. The only way I can see consensus changing in their favour is if their friends turn up, eg: Mr/Miss/Mr/Ms Kulkarni. When a reasonable time has passed and things look clear, if they still favour my opinion then I'd expect the wrangling to start over. Honestly, it's like watching some godawful B-movie on repeat. - Sitush (talk) 19:12, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Indeed; if I could support getting you more than just a T-Shirt, you damn well better believe I would. As it is, I'll keep an eye on things and be at the ready if/when something blows up again. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 21:03, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
The shirt is a trinket but might also be a useful PR exercise. The act of saying that "yes, I agree with that nomination" counts for far more. I am not entirely sober (aka: pissed), having just come home from a session to celebrate my 50th and having not slept for what is now ... erm, I forget, but it must be 48 hours. I am also not always correct in my rationales etc. I trust you to see the background and not just say "it's Sitush, so that's fine" - which is a common accusation levelled at the few admins who take a prolonged interest in the Indic goings-on. Anyway, time to try to get some sleep, although I doubt it will happen: this is tinnitus on a major scale. - Sitush (talk) 00:49, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
