Clemens Fritz (born 7 December 1980 in Erfurt, East Germany) is a German footballer who plays as a right back for Werder Bremen. He is well known for his pace, passing and team effort.

Club career

Fritz started his footballing career playing for the Regionalliga club Rot-Weiß Erfurt. In the summer of 2001, he joined 2. Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC and scored five goals in 32 games. When he was signed by Bayer Leverkusen in 2003, he was loaned back to Karlsruhe to play first team football. He got onto Leverkusen's first team in the 2003–04 season second half after showing his capabilities for their reserve team. Fritz played 14 more first team games for Leverkusen that season, gaining them a UEFA Champions League place. In 2004, he broke his leg during a pre-season game against Rot-Weiss Essen, ruling him out the entire season. He became a first team regular for Leverkusen until he joined Werder Bremen in the summer of 2006.
