Antwerp (Antwerpen in Dutch; Anvers in French) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp, of which it is the capital. The municipality comprises the the city of Antwerp proper and the towns of Berchem, Berendrecht, Borgerhout, Deurne, Ekeren, Hoboken, Merksem, Wilrijk and Zandvliet. On January 1st, 2000 Antwerp had a total population of 446,525 (216,580 males and 229,945 females). The total area is 203.80 km² which gives a population density of 2,191.00 inhabitants per km².
