Infinity Blade comment

Greetings. I was going to do the GA review on Infinity Blade, but it seems that J Milburn has beat me to it. He's addressed nearly all the issues that I had intended to bring up except one: the development section seems a bit lacking to me, and I would suggest using one or two more online interviews to bolster it. This one from Pocket Gamer and this one TouchArcade appear useful. It couldn't hurt to mention something about the game's production in the lead. Just a thought, since I'm not reviewing it. You could probably stand to expand it after the GA is decided. Regardless, great work on the article! ~ Hibana (talk) 17:36, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

A couple things

Hi PresN, I've reviewed all your changes and supported the article at FAC. I'm impressed that you've kept with that article for so long, hope it gets promoted this time. Also, since I see that you're an expert at video game articles: there are a few users trying to improve Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares up to GA. I don't think they're familiar with video game articles, so it may help a lot if you could weigh in about sources etc. Mark Arsten (talk) 18:26, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments and your willingness to help, if things eventually cool down enough without the article's quality being significantly degraded I'll probably renominate and ping you back. Mark Arsten (talk) 03:58, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, Skyeking has been indeff'd, so I put the article back in the queue for round two. Feel free to review the article at your leisure, although don't feel like you are obligated to. Also, I was just swinging by the GOCE and saw Bastion article, looks interesting. I'll try to finish reading it soon and jot down any comments I have. Mark Arsten (talk) 00:01, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

DISPLAYTITLE in Userpages

I'm trying to use it on mine but for some reason it is not working -- I must be doing something wrong. I'm not sure exactly how many parameters can be handled. I tried making it show up as "Salvidrim!" but figured that was maybe too intricate... but even just "Salvidrim!" doesn't show up as intended. Help? :) Salvidrim! 07:12, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

SMB

Hey, just wanted to congratulate you on SMB reaching FA. That was not in any way smooth sailing, but you stuck with it. Thumbs up. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 21:04, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, same here. I'm really impressed that you stuck with it after two unsuccessful noms. I probably would have given up long before then! Mark Arsten (talk) 00:02, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 January newsletter

WikiCup 2012 is off to a flying start. At the time of writing, we have 112 contestants; comparable to last year, but slightly fewer than 2010. Signups will remain open for another week, after which time they will be closed for this year. Our currrent far-away leader is Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), due mostly to his work on a slew of good articles about The X-Files; there remain many such articles waiting to be reviewed at good article candidates. Second place is currently held by Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions), whose points come mostly from good articles about television episodes, although good article reviews, did you knows and an article about a baroness round out the score. In third place is Mauritius Jivesh boodhun (submissions), who has scored 200 points for his work on a single featured article, as well as points for work on others, mostly in the area of pop music. In all, nine users have 100 or more points. However, at the other end of the scale, there are still dozens of participants who are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly!

The 64 highest scoring participants will advance to round 2 in a month's time. There, they will be split into eight random groups of eight. The score needed to reach the next round is not at all clear; last year, 8 points guaranteed a place. The year before, 20.

A few participants and their work warrant a mention for achieving "firsts" in this competition.

  • Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first to score, with his good article review of Illinois v. McArthur.
  • Florida 12george1 (submissions) was also the first to score points for an article, thanks to his work on Hurricane Debby (1982)- now a good article. Tropical storms have featured heavily in the Cup, and good articles currently have a relatively fast turnaround time for reviews.
  • Russia Sp33dyphil (submissions) was the first to score points for a did you know, with Russian submarine K-114 Tula. Military history is another subject which has seen a lot of Cup activity.
  • Russia Sp33dyphil (submissions) is also the first person to successfully claim bonus points. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is now a good article, and was eligible for bonus points because the subject was covered on more than 20 other Wikipedias at the start of the competition. It is fantastic to see bonus points being claimed so early!
  • Byzantine Empire Speciate (submissions) was the first to score points for an In the News entry, with Paedophryne amauensis. The lead image from the article was also used on the main page for a time, and it's certainly eye-catching!
  • Mauritius Jivesh boodhun (submissions) was the first to score points for a featured article, and is, at the moment, the only competitor to claim for one. The article, "Halo" (Beyoncé Knowles song), was also worth double points because of its wide coverage. While this is an article that Jivesh and others have worked on for some time, it is undeniable that he has put considerable work into it this year, pushing it over the edge.

We are yet to see any featured lists, featured topics or good topics, but this is unsurprising; firstly, the nomination processes with each of these can take some time, and, secondly, it can take a considerable amount of time to work content to this level. In a similar vein, we have seen only one featured article. The requirement that content must have been worked on this year to be eligible means that we did not expect to see these at the start of the competition. No points have been claimed for featured portals or pictures, but these are not content types which are often claimed; the former has never made a big impact on the WikiCup, while the latter has not done so since 2009's competition.

A quick rules clarification before the regular notices: If you are concerned that another user is claiming points inappropriately, please contact a judge to take a look at the article. Competitors policing one another can create a bad atmosphere, and may lead to inconsistencies and mistakes. Rest assured that we, the judges, are making an effort to check submissions, but it is possible that we will miss something. On a loosely related note: If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Super Meat Boy

Hi, probably I forgot to explain why I did so. It was shown in red letter an error related to references. I tried to solve it, I looked for examples to find anything wrong in the markup but I couldn't solve it. So finally I decided to remove final references to avoid appearing red error message. You can test so with previous version, I think. I am just a newbie in writing in wikipedia, I just try to solve some small details when I think I can. I am not sure if this is the correct protocol to answer you. Greetings--LantiusN 22:56, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

ANRFC closing

Per this edit I interpreted the December Skyward sword RfC as concluded in favor of not using "universal acclaim". So I closed the discussion in these 2 edits. This was mainly done to condense the issue which until recently dominated >50% of the physical space on the already enormous talk page. If this was improper of me (e.g. because I was an involved editor) then please revert. Otherwise thanks for your help. -Thibbs (talk) 23:16, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear PresN,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Admin assistance required (WP:VG)

To finalize the newly-converted taskforce. If you could take a peek at the thread and let us know if you can assist... :) Salvidrim! 11:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! Hope you don't mind me "using" you for these kinds of things. :) Salvidrim! 15:34, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Regarding you ANI conclusion

Would you please be kind to point me out how did I "violated ARBMAC", and preferably supported with diffs and related policies pointing exactly how did I violated them. FkpCascais (talk) 23:49, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

You took the responsability of closing the thread, and I exposed all diffs where I demonstrate how the charges against me are unfounded. You just limited yourself to make more unfounded conclusions towards me, so either you back them by diffs, or otherwise you should restore my thread at ANI, remove your comment, and leave it for someone less "fed up" to conclude it. Listen, I would have had no problems in "going editing somewhere else" if I came to do something wrong, but I see no reason whatsoever to take a vengative sanction which is not backed by one single diff, and to have admins backing eachother on this without providing anything else but vague wrong accusations. FkpCascais (talk) 02:06, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
As far as I see, ARBMAC doesn´t give admins green-light to sanction someone without being able to demonstrate even one breaking of policy. ARBMAC is still under general WP policies, and ARBMAC involved admins doesn´t have green light to undisriminatelly sanction someone just because they are "fed up"... Actually, "fed up" seems the best excuse, as otherwise you would have easily been able to provide me a diff that would have ended this story. FkpCascais (talk) 02:27, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
OK, you didn´t said "fed up", but you said "everyone is so sick of the constant fight over the macedonian articles" which basically gives the same tone, and doesn´t relate to me in any way.
The problem is that you are backing their possition (which is not backed by any diff) by also not providing any valid diff showing any fault on my behalve. And it is quite ironic that you mention my previous, and only, sanction, which was also very polemical, as it was attributed to me for havng made 2 reverts and 1 edit while the other side made 4 in the same 24 hours period (and they got clean). I was attibuted that sanction without being notified and without having had the chance to explain. So it is now an excuse for this sanction? Well, no. With no diffs, there is no reason for sanction, and you can get all admins to back you on group as you want, what counts are prooves about me breaking anyhow any policy. Also, may I ask what are you agreing with them specifically? They sanctioned me for Misplaced Pages:TE and Misplaced Pages:FORUMSHOP, with no previous warning, so you have diffs to confirm that you agree with those charges against me? FkpCascais (talk) 07:23, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 February newsletter

Round 1 is already over! The 64 highest scorers have progressed to round 2. Our highest scorer was Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), again thanks mostly to a swathe of good articles on The X-Files. In second place was United Kingdom Tigerboy1966 (submissions), thanks an impressive list of did you knows about racehorses. Both scored over 400 points. Following behind with over 300 points were Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions), Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) and Scotland Casliber (submissions). February also saw the competition's first featured list: List of colleges and universities in North Dakota, from Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions). At the other end of the scale, 11 points was enough to secure a place in this round, and some contestants with 10 points made it into the round on a tiebreaker. This is higher than the 8 points that were needed last year, but lower than the 20 points required the year before. The number of points required to progress to round 3 will be significantly higher.

The remaining contestants have been split into 8 pools of 8, named A through H. Round two will finish in two months time on 28 April, when the two highest scorers in each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers, will progress to round 3. The pools were entirely random, so while some pools may end up being more competitive than others, this is by chance rather than design.

The judges would like to point out two quick rules reminders. First, any content promoted during the interim period (that is, on or after 27 February) is eligible for points in round 2. Second, any content worked on significantly this year is eligible for points if promoted in this round. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which would otherwise be caused by the Cup. Bastion FAC

Hello, PresN. You have new messages at Misplaced Pages:Featured article candidates/Bastion (video game)/archive1.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Oh hey. I figure that DarkC117's additions to Bastion, though unsourced, are spot on and may be sourceable by quoting the narrator. We could juxtapose the changed lines of new game + and the originals. It's also possible that this would be too vague to work as a reference. You're far more in touch with The Rules than I am, so what do you think? --Kizor 01:44, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Help on Mass Effect

Hi, PresN! I'm working on Mass Effect article (the one about the video game, not the series). WikiCup 2012 March newsletter

We are over half way through the second round of this year's WikiCup and things are going well! Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), of Pool B, is our highest overall scorer thanks to his prolific writings on television and film. In second place is Pool H's Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), thanks primarily to work on biological articles, especially in marine biology and herpetology. Third place goes to Pool E's Scotland Casliber (submissions), who also writes primarily on biology (including ornithology and botany) and has already submitted two featured articles this round. Of the 63 contestants remaining, 15 (just under a quarter) have over 100 points this round. However, 25 are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly. 32 contestants, the top two from each pool and the 16 next-highest scorers, will advance to round 3.

Congratulations to Vanuatu Matthewedwards (submissions), whose impressive File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg became the competition's first featured picture. Also, congratulations to Florida 12george1 (submissions), who claimed good topic points, our first contestant this year to do so, for his work on Misplaced Pages:Featured topics/1982 Atlantic hurricane season. This leaves featured topics and featured portals as the only sources of points not yet utilised. However, as recent statistics from Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) show, no source has yet been utilised this competition to the same extent it has been previously!

It has been observed that the backlogs at good article candidates are building up again. While the points for good article reviews will be remaining constant, any help that can be offered keeping the backlog down would be appreciated. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. WikiCup 2012 April newsletter

Round 2 of this year's WikiCup is over, and so we are down to our final 32, in what could be called our quarter-finals. The two highest scorers from each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers overall, have entered round 3, while 30 participants have been eliminated. Pool B's Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) remains our top scorer with over 700 points; he continues to gain high numbers of points for his good articles on The X-Files, but also Millennium and other subjects. He has also gained points for a good topic, a featured list, multiple good article reviews and several did you knows. Pool E's Scotland Casliber (submissions) was second, thanks primarily to his biology articles, with Pool H's New York City Muboshgu (submissions) coming in third, with an impressive 46 did you knows, mostly on the subject of baseball. Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both scored over 600 points. Pools E and H proved our most successful, with each seeing 5 members qualify for round 3, while Pools C and D were the least, with each seeing only 3 reach round 3. However, it was Pool G which saw the lowest scoring, with a little under 400 points combined; Pool H, the highest scoring group, saw over triple that score.

65 points was the lowest qualifying score for round 3; significantly higher than the 11 required to enter round 2, and also higher than the 41 required to reach round 3 last year. However, in 2010, 100 points were needed to secure a place in round 3. 16 will progress to round 4. In round 3, 150 points was the 16th highest score, though, statistically, people tend to up their game a little in later rounds. Last year, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 points were needed. Guessing how many points will be required is not easy. We still have not seen any featured portals or topics this year, but, on the subject of less common content types, a small correction needs to be made to the previous newsletter: File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg, our first featured picture, was the work of both Vanuatu Matthewedwards (submissions) and United Kingdom Grandiose (submissions), the latter of whom has also gone on to score with File:Map of the Battle of Guam, 1944.svg. Bonus points also continue to roll in; this round, England Ealdgyth (submissions) earned triple points for her good articles on William the Conqueror and the Middle Ages, Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both earned triple points for their work on Western Jackdaw, now a good article, Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions) earned triple points for her work on lettuce and work by Bavaria Stone (submissions) to ready antimony for good article status earned him triple points. United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) managed to expand Vitus Bering far enough for a did you know, which was also worth triple points. All of these highly important topics featured on 50 or more Wikipedias at the start of the year.

An article on the WikiCup in the Wikimedia Blog, "Improving Misplaced Pages with friendly competition", was posted at the end of April. This may be of interest to those who are signed up to this newsletter, as well as serving as another way to draw attention to our project. Also, we would again like to thank United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) and Bavaria Stone (submissions), for continued help behind the scenes. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. WikiCup 2012 May newsletter

We're halfway through round 3 (or the quarter finals, if you prefer) and things are running smoothly. We're seeing very high scoring; as of the time of writing, the top 16 all have over 90 points. This has already proved to be more competative than this time last year- in 2011, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 was the lowest qualifying score. People have also upped their game slightly from last round, which is to be expected as we approach the end of the competition. Leading Pool A is Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), whose points have mostly come from a large number of did you knows on marine biology. Pool B's leader, Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), is for the first time not our highest scorer at the time of newsletter publication, but his good articles on The X-Files and Millenium keep him in second place overall. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) leads Pool C, our quietest pool, with content in a variety of areas on a variety of topics. Pool D is led by Scotland Casliber (submissions), our current overall leader. Nearly half of Casliber's points come from his triple-scored Western Jackdaw, which is now a featured article.

This round has seen an unusually high number of featured lists, with nearly one in five remaining participants claiming one, and one user, New York City Muboshgu (submissions), claiming two. Miyagawa's featured list, 1936 Summer Olympics medal table, was even awarded double points. By comparison, good article reviews seem to be playing a smaller part, and featured topics portals remain two content-types still unutilised in this competition. Other than that, there isn't much to say! Things are coming along smoothly. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. It has occurred to me that Journey's retention at the thatgamecompany's Featured Topic is about to run out on the 13th. So I recommend, if you can, to improve the page and get it up to GAN or the Topic will lose its FT status. GamerPro64 01:41, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Request for assistance

How are you? It has been a while, but I'm still around on Misplaced Pages. I tried creating a new article by copying some of the text as a basis to create an article, called Eureqa, and an admin named User:Fuhghettaboutit deleted it. Perhaps it was a fair point that the text needed to be modified, or removed, but he has refused to restore the article for me to improve. and now, he has deleted a Misplaced Pages Good Article unilaterally and with no consultation, Mark Twain House. I need some assistance on this issue, could you or another admin help? Thanks. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:22, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

In fact, I really think someone should start going through his contribution history to see if he has a record of deleting other Good Articles on very weak grounds and without any warning or communication of the issues involved, speedy deletion of articles are not for notable articles, let alone Good ones. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:24, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
I like that. Turn it back on me! Blatant copyright infringement, with the text persisting though today, as a "weak ground".--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
It is a weak ground. If you find a copyright problem in a non-new article and don't know what to do about it, take it to Misplaced Pages:Copyright problems. Deleting an article isn't the solution unless there's no other way to get rid of the violations. Not sure if just scrubbing the text is enough or if you have to revdelete aftwerwards, ask there. I am confused, though- Mark Twain House hasn't been a GA since July 2009, not sure why you (Judgesurreal) thought it still was? On the flip side, yeah, Eureqa should have been deleted- you can't just copy text and modify from there, you have to start with your own text. Sorry! Not to mention that an Alexa rank isn't enough to prove notability, you need some other cites. Let me know if you want me to restore the non-text part of the article to a userpage for you, though. --PresN 05:20, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
NM, I see Fuhged already did it for you. --PresN 05:21, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Scratch what I said about the copyright problems page, if you're talking to MoonriddenGirl you're golden, she's the queen of fixing this stuff. --PresN 05:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 June newsletter

Apologies for the lateness of this letter; our usual bot wasn't working. We are now entering round 4, our semi-finals, and have our final 16. A score of 243 was required to reach this round; significantly more than 2011's 76 points, and only a little behind 2010's 250 points. By comparison, last year, 150 points in round 4 secured a place in the final; in 2010, 430 were needed. Commiserations to Pool A's Minas Gerais igordebraga (submissions), who scored 242 points, missing out on a place in the round by a whisker. However, congratulations to Pool B's Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), whose television articles have brought him another round victory. Pool A's Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second overall, with an impressive list of biological did you knows, good articles and featured articles. Third overall was Pool D's New York City Muboshgu (submissions), with a long list of contibutions, mostly relating to baseball. Of course, with the points resetting every round, the playing field has been levelled. The most successful Pool was Pool D, which saw seven into the final round. Pool B saw four, C saw three and Pool A saw only the two round leaders.

A quick note about other competitions taking place on Misplaced Pages which may be of interest. There are 13 days remaining in the June-July GAN backlog elimination drive, but it is not too late to take part. August will also see the return of The Core Contest- a one month long competition first run in 2007. While the WikiCup awards points for audited content on any subject, The Core Contest about is raw article improvement, focussing heavily on the most important articles on Misplaced Pages. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! WikiCup 2012 July newsletter

We're approaching the beginning of 2012's final round. Pool A sees Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) as the leader, with 300 points being awarded for the featured article Bivalvia, and Pool B sees Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) in the lead, with 10 good articles, and over 35 articles eligible for good topic points. Pool A sees New York City Muboshgu (submissions) in second place with a number of articles relating to baseball, while Pool B's Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) follows Grapple X, with a variety of contributions including the high-scoring, high-importance featured article on the 2010 film Pride & Prejudice. Ruby2010, like Grapple X, also claimed a number of good topic points; despite this, not a single point has been claimed for featured topics in the contest so far. The same is true for featured portals.

Currently, the eighth-place competitor (and so the lowest scorer who would reach the final round right now) has scored 332, more than double the 150 needed to reach the final round last year. In 2010, however, 430 was the lowest qualifying score. In this competition, we have generally seen scores closer to those in 2010 than those in 2011. Let's see what kind of benchmark we can set for future competitions! Good luck! Two Square Enix articles left!

Two quick things! We are down to two Square Enix game articles that are stubs! Emperors SaGa is too short, and Front Mission 2089-II has no reception. Want to help us over the top? I cant find anything else, and once these are done, its just a few biographies of uncertain notability. Also, I noticed that you are in the Wikicup! A way to perhaps get some quick points would be to push some of the Square Enix projects former GA's and FA's back to their original status, since they shouldn't be too far from it now. Good luck! RfC discussion

You are invited to join the discussion at WT:VG/GL#RfC: Top X lists in video games. In addition, I have also expressed serious concern that we're not gaining a consensus on the matter whether we should use "Top X Lists" to determine notability for a video game character article as I am creating a video game character guideline for the relevant article guideline page, despite announcing the matter on WP:VPPR, WP:SE and WT:VG about the situation. Main Page appearance

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the article Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on September 3, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured list/September 3, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Misplaced Pages talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Misplaced Pages doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 21:05, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Artist Brad Foster, with his cat Sable

The Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist is given each year for artists of works related to science fiction or fantasy which appeared in low- or non-paying publications such as semiprozines or fanzines. A Hugo Award for professional artists is also given. Hugo Award nominees and winners are chosen by supporting or attending members of the annual World Science Fiction Convention, or Worldcon, and the presentation evening constitutes its central event. The selection process is defined in the World Science Fiction Society Constitution as instant-runoff voting with five nominees, except in the case of a tie. Worldcons are generally held near Labor Day and in a different city around the world each year. Brad W. Foster (pictured) has received the most number of awards, with 8 wins out of 24 nominations. William Rotsler has received 5 out of 23, the most nominations of any artist. Tim Kirk has also won five times, out of eight nominations. The only other artists to win more than twice are Teddy Harvia, with four out of twenty nominations, Alexis A. Gilliland, with four out of eight, and Frank Wu, also with four out of eight.

WikiCup 2012 August newsletter

The final is upon us! We are down to our final 8. A massive 573 was our lowest qualifying score; this is higher than the 150 points needed last year and the 430 needed in 2010. Even in 2009, when points were acquired for mainspace edit count in addition to audited content, 417 points secured a place. That leaves this year's WikiCup, by one measure at least, our most competitive ever. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) once again finishes the round in first place, leading Pool B. Grapple X writes articles about television, and especially The X-Files and Millenium, with good articles making up the bulk of the score.
  2. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) led Pool A this round. Fourth-place finalist last year, Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, and has reached the final primarily off the back of his massive number of did you knows.
  3. Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) was second in Pool B. Ruby2010 writes primarily on television and film, and scores primarily from good articles.
  4. Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished third in Pool B. Casliber is something of a WikiCup veteran, having finished sixth in 2011 and fourth in 2010. Casliber writes on the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. Over half of Casliber's points this round were bonus points from the high-importance articles he has worked on.
  5. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second in Pool A. Also writing on biology, especially marine biology, Cwmhiraeth received 390 points for one featured article (Bivalvia) and one good article (pelican), topping up with a large number of did you knows.
  6. New York City Muboshgu (submissions) was third in Pool A. Muboshgu writes primarily on baseball, and this round saw Muboshgu's first featured article, Derek Jeter, promoted on its fourth attempt at FAC.
  7. Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions) was fourth in Pool A. She writes on a variety of topics, including horses, but this round also saw the high-importance lettuce reach featured article status.
  8. Canada Sasata (submissions) is another WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist in 2009 and 2010. He writes mostly on mycology.

However, we must also say goodbye to the eight who did not make the final, having fallen at the last hurdle: Russia GreatOrangePumpkin (submissions), England Ealdgyth (submissions), England Calvin999 (submissions), Poland Piotrus (submissions), North Carolina Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), Florida 12george1 (submissions), Cherokee Nation The Bushranger (submissions) and North Macedonia 1111tomica (submissions). We hope to see you all next year.

On the subject of next year, a discussion has been opened here. Come and have your say about the competition, and how you'd like it to run in the future. This brainstorming will go on for some time before more focused discussions/polls are opened. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. Concerning Flower's genre

Hi PresN,

I noticed you reverted my edit on Flower's genre. We could play Genre Warriors, but fact is that video game genres are aimed at its gameplay element: first-person shooters, platformers, role-playing games. Seeing that poetry hasn't got anything to do with the game whatsoever I have to ask you to let 'adventure' be sufficient (I would go for art game myself, but who am I?). On a side note, I can't read or write Japanese - so I can't check that validity of the source. Why go for a Japanese source anyway, the game was made in the U.S. IGN calls it an adventure game, is that okay? It is a third-party source moreover. --Soetermans. T / C 12:36, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Actually the source you've provided above indicated "Genre: Action". Salvidrim! 16:51, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

The article is in good shape, but the prose may still need some tweaks and i'm not a native speaker of english. I'd appreciate all the help you could bring. Thanks. — ΛΧΣ21 04:14, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 September newsletter

We're over half way through the final, and so it is less than a month until we know for certain our 2012 WikiCup champion. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) currently leads, followed by Canada Sasata (submissions), Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and Scotland Casliber (submissions). However, we have no one resembling a breakaway leader, and so the competition is a long way from over. Next month's newsletter will feature a list of our winners (who are not necessarily only the finalists) and keep your eyes open for an article on the WikiCup in a future edition of The Signpost. The leaders are already on a par with last year's winners, but a long way from the huge scores seen in 2010. That said, a repeat of the competition from 2010 seems unlikely.

It is good to see that three-quarters of our finalists have already scored bonus points this round. This shows that, contrary to criticism that the WikiCup has received in the past, the competition does not merely incentivise the writing of trivial articles; instead, our top competitors are still spending their time contributing to high-importance articles, and bringing them to a high standard. This does a great service to the encyclopedia and its readers. Thank you, and good work!

The planning for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Some straw polls have been opened concerning the scoring, and you can now sign up for next year's competition. Good luck! Good Articles of the Month

Each month, 5 random good articles will be choose to be featured here as the good articles of the month.

Some Tips About References/Sources

Having references included in articles is one of the most important aspects to a good article, let alone Misplaced Pages! Without them, no one would ever know what is true and what is false and Misplaced Pages probably wouldn't be where it is today. So this month, I will talk about how to check for references, how reliable they are, and so on and so forth.

The first thing to do when reviewing an nominee is to do a quick scan of the article. One of the things to look for is if the article has references! If you don't see a list at the bottom of the article page, quick-fail it. For newcomers, quick-failing is failing an article when you spot a problem before actually conducting a full review. If you do find a list of references (and in most cases you will) make sure to look through each and every one. If you want to save some time, use this tool as it will tell you if there are any problematic references in the article you are reviewing.

Next, check the reliability and type of the references/sources. In terms of the type of reference, check to see how many primary and/or secondary sources are included. Primary sources are the ones published by the subject of the article. For example, if the subject of the article has to do with the iPhone 4s and the source is published by Apple, it is considered a primary source. Secondary sources are those not published by the subject of the article (or in close relation to it). Newspapers are examples of secondary sources and considered one of the better types to include in the article (not saying primary sources are bad). If you find that most/all of the references are primary sources, notify the nominator about this issue(s) and place the article on hold once you have completed the review. Only in the event that a secondary source can't be found as a replacement, then the primary source can remain. If there is a good mix of primary and secondary sources, that is perfect and no references need to be changed.

Now, reliability. Forums are generally not considered reliable and some blog's may not be reliable either. Newspapers, most sources published by the subject, some blogs, etc. are considered reliable. If you don't know wether the source is reliable, ask for a second opinion. For more info about how to identify wether a reference is reliable or not, visit this article.

Finally, one of the more basic things to look for is that every statement in the article has at least one reference! The only case that a statement doesn't need a reference is when it is common sense that the statement is defiantly true and/or in the case where the statement can't be challenged, as per what Misplaced Pages says, "All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable published source using an inline citation."

Did You Know...
  • ... that 2,100 articles have been reviewed during all backlog elimination drives combined?
  • ... that out of 4,055,039 articles on Misplaced Pages, only 15,846 are good articles?
  • ... that there are currently over 400 video game good articles?
Notes
  1. As of October 2, 2012 at 19:05 (UTC).
  2. Before quick-failing the article, verify that one of the several referencing templates is correctly placed at the bottom of the article. If the template is not placed, try to place it to see if references are displayed. If this proof returns no references, then proceed to quick-failing.

Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.

Awards will be handed out in the coming days; please bear with us! This year's competition also saw fantastic contributions in all rounds, from newer Wikipedians contributing their first good or featured articles, right up to highly experienced Wikipedians chasing high scores and contributing to topics outside of their usual comfort zones. It would be impossible to name all of the participants who have achieved things to be proud of, but well done to all of you, and thanks! Misplaced Pages has certainly benefited from the work of this year's WikiCup participants.

Next year's WikiCup will begin in January. Currently, discussions and polls are open, and all contributions are welcome. You can also sign up for next year's competition. There will be no further newsletters this year, although brief notes may be sent out in December to remind everyone about the upcoming competition. It's been a pleasure to work with you all, and we hope to see you all in January! J Milburn (talkemail) and The ed17 (talkemail) 00:39, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Nebula awards

Then will you fix it to where it is easier to read? All the years all bunched up together like that make it hard to separate the awards and nominees. Lady Lotus (talk) 01:33, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

p.s. - and yes you can have winners highlighted separately, it'd look better if it was like this Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

RE Characters of Chrono Cross

Thanks for noticing! Yeah, I love the series, but just about everything else in the Chrono series is like GA/FA status, so there's never been much of an opportunity for me to contribute much there. Once I noticed how rough the character article was, I thought I'd give it a shot. I figure I'm in a rare position, having played the game through so many times (It's my favorite, hence the name.) and also being pretty up on Misplaced Pages policy and guidelines and whatnot. You're right, it really has been a massive undertaking, but entertaining too -- I'll try to keep at it. Makes me happy to see someone noticed; it's been rough for so long I was starting to wonder if it was because no one reads it in the first place... Sergecross73 msg me 21:48, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the link. I always find those "Most popular pages" lists fascinating, I need to remember to look for those. And yeah, it's true, it has been quite difficult to write. I've had to take a lot of notes on how other similar articles have been written. Good ones seem to be few and far between. Many are full of play-by-play plot summaries or trivial details. Even the talk page for the CC list article was filled with arguments over trivial details like "element color". I've been using the Characters of FF8 as a reference point, but your FF12 looks good too. Thanks, I'll use that as another reference point if need be. I'm not sure I'd have the motivation to do it if I didn't already know so much about the game, it helps that I know much of the information, I just need to find the refs to support it.
Anyways though, thanks again for saying something. It's nice having a positive conversation like this once in a while. It seems like these days so many of my discussions just boil down to people complaining to me that I'm enforcing policy/guidelines they don't like, or me telling people to stop bickering over trivial details. Assistance with Glass Joe

I was wondering if you'd be willing to review the quality of the Glass Joe article, once I improve it some. I'm also considering taking my boot to the Analogue: A Hate Story and Christine Love (visual novelist) article, if you're interested in doing that. Good topic maybe? - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 00:39, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

- Analogue is only $2.49 if you want to get it for a steal. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 20:40, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
I've finished my work on Glass Joe, so if you could do some copyediting when you have some free time, that would be most appreciated. The way I figure it, with respect to Love's stuff, you could work on sprucing up her article, and I could work on sprucing up the game article, and then we can converge and work on both. I've also been thinking of possibly getting Digital to featured status one day, if at all possible. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 21:00, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Advice on a list

Hi. I know this was quite awhile ago, but, last year (I think), you offered to help me figure out the article List of video games developed by Looking Glass Studios. I'm a dunce when it comes to lists, but this article needs to reach FL for the "Looking Glass Studios games" topic to be complete. I know you're busy, so I won't ask for editing help—I'd just like to know what to do. I have no idea what to put in the lead, given the fairly wide range of styles used in our project's FLs; and, with regard to the content and formatting of the list itself, I'm totally lost. What makes it through FLC these days? What should I avoid doing? How much information should I include? Really, any advice at all would be a huge help. Thanks. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 05:29, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

  • Sorry for the message spam. In response to your question about helping with citations: that would be great. Only problem is that GameSpot and IGN are usually wrong and/or contradictory about the release dates of LGS's early games. Most of my release date information on those is from the hundreds of sources I've dug up on LGS over the years, so I'll have to cite that stuff instead of the databases. If you want to help a bit with their games from Terra Nova and onward, though, I'd be glad to have your assistance. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:14, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

List of Strategic Simulations, Inc. games

Hello,

I would like to bring List of Strategic Simulations, Inc. games to FL-status, but I don't know which table I should use, the one in List of Square Enix video games, List of Looking Glass Studios video games or List of Dragon Quest media? Regards.--Tomcat (7) 13:50, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

What does the "NA" means in the table? And did you exluded USA because all the games were released there? Regards.--Tomcat (7) 15:38, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Presumably it means "USA", but The Death Trap, for example, was not only released in Japan.--Tomcat (7) 15:43, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for replying so often. It is definitely North America14, but does it mean that it was released in all NA countries? Regards.--Tomcat (7) 15:46, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Congrats w/ Christine Love

Due to some time constraints I'll have to push back my work on Analogue: A Hate Story until after the New Year (though even then I'll be a bit busy with some off-site writing). I think that it would be best, anyway, to hold off on working on it, since it has DLC coming. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 10:49, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Incredible

Hey PresN, I just wanted to take a moment to say that I was completely blown away by the massive amount of article improvements you've accomplished. In particular, I'm really grateful for what you've done for FF and FF music articles over the years. I may be new to being an editor here, but I remember spending countless hours in the past reading articles like the ones for which you've done so much. These days I don't have as much time to play games as I used to, but the composers and their music is something I've never lost my passion for. I thought about saying this with an award, but I see you've already got plenty of those. All well deserved, of course! So, I hope this simple message is enough. Wateresque (talk) 17:49, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2013 WikiCup

Hello, PresN, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders:

  • The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page.
  • Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started and completed the review in 2013.) We will be checking.
  • If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself.
  • Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens.
  • Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked.

Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 13:00, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Hey! I currently have this FLC: Misplaced Pages:Featured list candidates/List of The Elder Scrolls video games/archive2. I'd really appreicate if you take a look at that list and give me some comments. Thanks! — ΛΧΣ 20:07, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Bastion (video game)

This is a note to let the main editors of Bastion (video game) know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on January 30, 2013. You can view the TFA blurb at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/January 30, 2013. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegates Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you can change it—following the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Bastion is an action role-playing video game produced by independent developer Supergiant Games. In the game, the player controls "the Kid" as he moves through floating, fantasy-themed environments collecting special shards of rock to power a structure, the Bastion, in the wake of an apocalyptic event. It features a dynamic voiceover from a narrator, and is presented as a two-dimensional game with an isometric camera and a hand-painted, colorful art style. The game debuted at the September 2010 Penny Arcade Expo, and it went on to be nominated for awards at the 2011 Independent Games Festival and win awards at the Electronic Entertainment Expo prior to release in July 2011. During 2011, the game sold more than 500,000 copies, 200,000 of which were for the Xbox Live Arcade. It was widely praised by reviewers, primarily for its story, art direction, narration, and music, although opinions were mixed on the depth of the gameplay. Bastion has won many nominations and awards since its release, including several for best downloadable game and best music. The soundtrack was produced and composed by Darren Korb, and a soundtrack album was made available for sale in August 2011. (Full article...)

WikiCup 2013 January newsletter

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader (Irish Citizen Army Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:

Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.

This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:

  • United States Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
  • Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
  • Chicago HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Misplaced Pages at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.

Also, a quick mention of British Empire The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! DYK for Music of Final Fantasy XIII-2

Updated DYK queryOn 9 February 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Music of Final Fantasy XIII-2, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that in an attempt to sound different from previous Final Fantasy video games, the music of Final Fantasy XIII-2 includes rap, heavy metal, and electronic pieces? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Music of Final Fantasy XIII-2. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

  1. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
  2. London Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
  3. New South Wales Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Alaska Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by British Empire The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Good luck! Cool idea! I think there are really only 5 lists left; the other few are character articles that for some reason, at some point, were made into lists, which I really think they are not. You may want to chime in on this point on the talk page so we can make the change in article titles, since you are listened to, because if we make the character lists start articles, I can hack and slash at them into C's and you can probably bring the last 5 lists up to FL, and we will have no stubs and all FL.Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:16, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Wow, Featured List nominations take a while! But yeah, that's a great idea, a Good Topic for Xenogears? A good "Characters of" article? Are such things ALLOWED? :P But that reference you found, thats like gold, we can use that... I'll start poking at the article, perhaps we can do this! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:44, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism

Two things; one, could you block this account? Vandal on its user history, it is a vandalism account. Also, can I get my user page protected again? I feel like as soon as I get un protected, people are vandalizing my user page. Bad blood from my wars in AFD from years ago...Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:24, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Actually, I am still protected, they found a loophole... geez, can we plug it? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:48, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
No I'm good now, I'll let people talk to me :) Thanks a lot! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 05:31, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Page move

Could you help me move GRIN (company) to Grin (company)? The Fortress GAN wants me to change the name of the article to make it standard; just like BUNGiE isnt that but just Bungie, it should be regular grin not all caps GRIN. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 06:11, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Seeing that Fortress (Grin) is now at GA status, as well as it was once part of Misplaced Pages:Featured topics/Final Fantasy XII, do you think it should join that topic once more? I mean I didn't know if was once again an article so it probably should have been placed back in. But since it now has Grin in the title I'm not entirely certain. GamerPro64 15:26, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I think so, it was still going to be a Final Fantasy 12 game after all... Thanks PresN for this, and all your kindnesses! I have a question; are all the Square Enix articles in the Square Enix template ours? They don't all seem to have our project banner if they are. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 05:50, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

An award for your contribs

The Square Enix Barnstar

Although you made it, this award is long overdue. I dont know what this wikiproject will be without you. Im quite envious of your skill and dedication.Lucia Black (talk) 18:10, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Characters of

I tried to move one, but since many were originally characters of, I can't move them there because the one there have to be deleted first...could you move them? I'll change them to start level articles on the index, so I can at least do that. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:16, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! We keep on trucking, things keep going forward. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:48, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for warning Niemti on his talk page. Oh boy, I find it extremely frustrating when abusive users badmouth me and bring up old and irrelevant disputes that I would rather put to bed as I always move on. We'll see what happens, eh? Other than that, good work on the Symphonic Fantasies article! Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 21:18, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Idea for another article tracker

Could we make one of those green banner for the article cleanup tags? Like what percentage of articles have them? We are in the mid 40's I think, could be another useful metric to work down to zero, or to 100% free. Also, update that wonderful graph when you get a chance, I bet we made a huge different in the last two months! I'm going to start on Characters of Xenogears soon, just found a lot of Square Enix other stuff as well.Judgesurreal777 (talk) 22:54, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for looking into it! It usually tracks with article progression anyway, so as long as we move forward they should decrease. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:24, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

List of Presidents of Pakistan

Hi, could you please have a look at Misplaced Pages:Featured list candidates/List of Presidents of Pakistan/archive1? Regards, Zia Khan 21:36, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Regarding an issue with Niemti

Hi PresN. If you don't mind, can you please take a look at the differences here, here, here and here, as well as Talk:Jill Valentine/GA2? Also, can you please look at this section? I've been trying to minimize contact with Niemti, but apparently he's going around badmouthing me to regular established editors by calling me a "stalker" (I think that its only stalking if the edits are not done in good faith) and accusing me of "lying", which I never have and these comments are considered to be a clear violation of WP:NPA. He was already warned by Fladrif (talk · contribs) about this here. And that was after I posted on the WP:RSN and supported what Fladrif said after FutureTrillionaire brought it up at WT:VG/S. Also, there has been some contention with other editors (i.e. FutureTrillionaire) going on at the GAN of Jill Valentine after he quick-failed it due to sourcing issues; see also WP:RSN#Jill Valentine and WT:VG/S#Jill Valentine. Also, since editing on behalf of another editor is called meatpuppetry and can lead to a block, I am trying not to recruit meatpuppets nor am I trying to use sockpuppets as doing so can lead me to a block. What is the best option here? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 19:35, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

I see now. Thanks, anyway. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:31, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Kefka Palazzo

Ok, the article seems to be close to GA status now, but I need someone to look at it since I'm too close to it having worked on it so much. I imagine it is a bit disorganized and needs some rewriting. If you could take a look before I nominate it, that would be much appreciated. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:01, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the blitz! This way the article will get much better. Yeah I wish I could find more on Kefka's development. My thinking is that it will be good enough for GA but prohibitive for FA. I hear that there are interviews from the 1990's in V Jump Magazine in Japan with the game creators, and isn't there an ultimania? I wonder if that was ever translated into English. And thanks for wanting to take over the Jill article, it is so close, and needs so little fixing. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 14:15, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Ok here's a crazy thought, could we get away with having Kefka's laugh sampled in the article? The article does go on and on about how his laugh is so famous, so memorable, and the best video game laugh ever, but no one can hear it! If you think this would be good, could you help me add it? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:54, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Seems like the Nominator for Mighty Jill Off is on extended break, still want to address the tiny amount of fixes for its GA status? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:08, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Good Article Nominations Request For Comment

A 'Request For Comment' for Good Article Nominations is currently being held. We are asking that you please take five to ten minutes to review all seven proposals that will affect Good Article Nominations if approved. Full details of each proposal can be found here. Please comment on each proposal (or as many as you can) here.

At this time, Proposal 1, 3, and 5 have received full (or close to) support.

If you have questions of anything general (not related to one specif proposal), please leave a message under the General discussion thread.

Please note that Proposal 2 has been withdrawn and no further comments are needed. Also, please disregard Proposal 9 as it was never an actual proposal.

Motion to close RFC/U

As an outside editor, I have moved that Misplaced Pages:Requests_for_comment/Niemtibe closed.

I sent a notice to every editor who had previously commented in the RFC/U but had not yet commented on the Motion to close, including Niemti. Obviously, because of the block which you (quite justifiably) imposed, he can't comment at the RFC/U itself. At the prompting of another editor I have advised that it was my understanding that he could still comment on his Talk Page. If that is incorrect, please advise.

If you wish to comment on the Motion to close, please do so here . Fladrif (talk) 14:58, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 March newsletter

We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate London Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's New South Wales Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.

Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr (Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare (Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus (Alaska Keilana (submissions) and New South Wales Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John (Indiana Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.

Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.

A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. The Admin's Barnstar
This is for your valuable contributions and excellent work as an administrator and member of the Video Games WikiProject. You are a valuable contributor as well and I hope we can work together some time in the future. Warmest regards, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 00:29, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
