The panoramic view from Connors Hill, near Swifts Creek, Victoria

from Ssilvers

Hi, thanks for your message re: Iolanthe and Mount Ararat. Anywhere is OK with me. There should probably be references back and forth. Since this is just a fun reference to a comic work of theatre, it is not that important, just an amusing reference. W.S. Gilbert, the playright, was making an oblique biblical reference by naming a character after the place where the Ark came to rest. He also may have been implying that the character was stubborn and immovable, like a big mountain. Thanks! --Ssilvers 15:15, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

from Soso

Hi , I just wanted let you know that I have created an artcle about Georgian Bagrationis already "Bagrationi Dynasty" and I want to link "Bagrationi" link to the proper article. However, you keep changing it to "Bagratid Dynasties" link. I think there should be a link "Bagratid" link, which goes to "Bagratid Dynasties" and "Bagrationi" link should go to "Bagrationi Dynasty". That's why I was blocked for 24 hours because I changed it three times in a row. I am going to change it and if you disagrees with that, please discuss it with me first before you decide to link it.
Regards
Soso

The reason that I created separate page for Bagrationis (Georgian dynasty) is that Bagrationis were Georgian Kings, so I think that there should be separate article about Georgian Bagrtionis and Armenian Bagrtids. So that people can find out more about the monarchs of Georgia and Armenia. Many royal families in Europe are related to one another, so since Georgia and Armenia are different countries they should have diferent articles about their monarchs. However, I am not saying that Bagrationis and Bagratids do not have connections and I have nothings against Armenian culture, because it is quite unique and they have a great history. My point is that Bagrationis and Bagratids should have different encyclopedia articles. "Bagrationis" were georgian branch of the royal family, so I think that the link "Bagrationi" should go to the aticle "Bagrationi Dynasty". Sincerely Soso

Re: Sumgait

Well I was hoping that you could read the sections entitled "Triggers and Antecedants" and "Pogroms" and see if there is any violations in neutrality as GM claims there is. And also read the following talk posted primarily by me, Fadix, and GM. Thanks.--MarshallBagramyan 05:44, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Armenian Genocide

My edits were already discussed and not contested in principle. You can check archive 9 point 34. I hope you revert the article back to the earlier version. Deepblue06 06:22, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I believe the title Turkish intellectuals and historians is not the best choice of words. Because in what follows, there is a list of western historians (professors of history) who do not accept genocide claims. Given that this section is already a subsection of position of Turkey. I believe repeating the word Turkish intellectuals is redundant. A better title would position of historians (remember we are in the subsection of opposing views). I'm not saying that this is the best choice, but I truly believe that it's better than "position of Turkish intellectuals and historians". Aren't historians already intellectuals? All of the list includes historians which I believe would be a better choice of word. Best Deepblue06

I believe that a better outline should have a subsection under Turkey's position named Western historians. I opposed to the word Turkish intellectuals on two grounds. (i) The list includes many western historians (actually, the list only has one Turkish historian, the others are all western). (ii) This is already a subsection of Position of Turkey. But I don't see this as a major problem, I can live with the way article stands on this issue. Best, Deepblue06 17:48, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the Turk thing

Hey what up dude. Lol, I'm actually working on the Turkmen and History of Turkmenistan articles, but I don't think those are really all that controversial. I gotta say that was a bit disjointed and the Azeris, at least in the north, do cluster with the Armenians and others in their immediate area. I'll check that out later though. Man, that's just weird regarding the possible banning from articles. Well, at least you made it out alive. I generally don't do edit wars myself so much. Too much trouble. So are you still going to out with the Turkmen etc.? It's risky, but I think you'll survive. ;) Tombseye 17:48, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

What is the problem? Btw - you think langauge section is too much detail? abdulnr

Hi, you have sent me this message: "Hi. If you feel something is lacking sources, please add tags to the claims. However, don't just delete sourced material. Thank you. —Khoikhoi 17:33, 13 May 2006 (UTC)"

I hope you sent the same message to the other dude who was reverting my changes because they are not properly cited (even though I have written the source in the talk page). I guess you are on the anti-Turk camp as well.

Hi Khoikhoi - I'm very sorry to have disappointed your expectation in me, but it had become impossible for me to compromise my principles. I don't covet adminship at all, so it wasn't a difficult decision - I simply cannot accept misrepresentation and nonsense. However, I cannot tell you how greatly joyous I feel at the enthusiastic, wonderful support you expressed for me. I don't know how hard it will be to understand that your supports means extremely a lot to me. I thank you from my heart, and please let me know if I can ever be assistance or help in anything. re:manik....

Ya, why? Why are you bringin up Acuman? The board made a just ruling which benefits the quality of articles. I agree with their decision, but why did you bring Acuman up? What dooes manik...mean??? 72.57.230.179 02:15, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Wooo wooo. Now your making some big accusations and assumtions. WHat authority do you have to state that I am the guy who had the biggest problem with him? I hads no problem with him I had a problem with his edits and biased POV and racism. This is an abstract issue. What are you trying to say. How have you offended me. Why are you sorry. There is no conflict here. WHat type of picture are you trying to paint? Are you saying I am being hostile? Becuase that is an accusation and can even be argueably uncivil. My name? How would you know my name? You are making a lot of assumtions. I was trying to help you and defending you!!!! What are you trying to do here? 72.57.230.179 02:21, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Then kindly answer all my questions. The other user said you play games and I said you don't especially in light of your probation for unfavoured behaviour. Now please answer my questions as stated. I have nothing against any editor. I am an editor, no more and no less. I do not let likes or dislikes obstruct editing. 72.57.230.179 02:28, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Are you sure. Where do you get off saying I had the biggest problem with him? Saying I don't like a user is one thing and saying I have a problem with his edits is something else. How do you measuure? Do you have a device to see which user had the biggest problem. How can you tell if someone is mad or sad over the net? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHY DID YOU BRING HIM UP. I AM INSULTED! Why did bring him up? Please do not patrionize me. I AM INSULTED BUT INDIFFERENT. 72.57.230.179 02:47, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Not so fast. NO YOU DID NOT ANSWER THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: WHY DID YOU BRING UP ACUMAN? WHat is your rational for it? WHat is your excuse? 72.57.230.179 02:54, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Oh ya give me a medal too. 72.57.230.179 02:57, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
If you didn't notice an Administrator told me and it is right above you in my talk page, but what was the poit. WHat were you trying to imply or what where you trying to say? If you already know based on thjose things you would know I was talking to the Admin on his ban. So why would you bring it up.? You even verify here that I was interested and knew what happened to him. SO why bring it up? 72.57.230.179 03:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Okay discussons ended. Just keeping you on your toes. Thanks for the star. I love it. How can I give medals out too? 72.57.230.179 03:04, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Out it on my user page, please. If you can and don't mind. So I am a wild card? How so? Am I known in the community, LOL? 72.57.230.179 03:06, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

What do you think? -- - K a s h 19:09, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Osmanli

There is a lot of politics going into these terms. People are trying to come up with definitions to open spaces for their own existence (or their definitions). In this case, the question is how the coverage of definition is formed. I can tell you that definition did exist in pre-nationalism terms. As you can guess it had a different formation than what people are trying to come up with NATIONALISTIC perspective. I do not know what you are trying to point at. I had no time to look at that definition, and I do not believe you can stop these people to come up with their own. Hope this is an enough explanation.--OttomanReference 19:20, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Osmanli is a tribe among 12 tribes that come to anatolia (check seljucks). Osmanli is a sub group of Turks that form the empire, which (questionable) republic of turkey ended their rule. Problem can be fixed with a dab page.--OttomanReference 19:28, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Look at the sources

These are sources and it is upsourd that I have to verify for simple things. Maybe we should verify the term American or that the UK is a country. I know you knew the term was Azarr. The term was also on the article before I even addressed it to, but when I say the majority use it due to political motives I am forced to verify. This is obvious gaming by certain parties and is unexceptable becuase it seems insincer. Maybe we should ask for Administration involvment. 72.57.230.179

It's time you get some recognition for your persistent struggle to keep Middle Eastern population statistics free of nationalist bias. I'm sure the Berbers of Algeria, and just about every Lebanese sect there is agree with me that you deserve a Barnstar. Arre 05:36, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Ndebele language

How clever of you to spot that this was a copyvio - the same user has turned it into an article History of the Ndebele people which I tagged for merging with Ndebele people (South Africa). I'll go back and rv my tags and tag the page as a copyvio. Humansdorpie 12:52, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: Obediah Mlilo; no hits on JSTOR, but he is almost certainly the S.O. Mlilo listed as author of two Ndebele-language books in the SOAS library catalogue. Did you have second thoughts about the AfD? My view is that notability is inferred by the fact that Mlilo had at least two works published by one of the pre-eminent Zimbabwean colonial-era publishers, and was apparently made a Regional Hero - an honour announced in the Zim Govt Gazette, and one that carries considerable status. It would be nice to see some additional verification, but of course ease of verification is where African candidates for articles are often disadvantaged! Humansdorpie 22:11, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Greier

Look, just leave the article on the Aromanians. I really cannot be bothered to go through the negotiations and if you don't want to, then don't get involved either. If he wants it all that bad, then let him have it. He's already violated the 3RR - I'm not going to report him and I don't think you should until he does something he shouldn't be doing. I would probably also violate the 3RR if I'd written that much to have it just rolled back. What he has written is not that bad, but it does need filtering (I just can't be bothered to do it). BTW check your e-mail. --Telex 19:41, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Personal attacks

It is against wikipedia policy to attack the character of another editor, so anytime you see someone violate this, there is no questions that they should apologize and erase what they wrote. If certian POV pushers try to intimidate editors who disagree with their views, we will lose any credibility that wiki has as an encyclopedia. Therefore, we must be tough on people who break such fundamental rules and think they can get away with it. You are doing a great job and I only wish there were more members like yourself.--Moosh88 04:12, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Turks issue

Sheesh, you get the feeling that these peoples' pages are more trouble than they're worth? Always someone who comes along and, often having done little or no research or even reading the article, decides that they want to redefine something or other. Anyway, I'm always glad to help out. Say, when you have time to do a picture for Turkmen, do you have any idea what's going to be on there? I can only think of that whacko who's running the country, the so-called Turkmenbashi as I can't think of famous Turkmen except for this cat, Magtymguly Pyragy. Tombseye 01:34, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Wow, I'm impressed with your Turkmen language skills! I remember you saying you were going to learn Turkish, is that still going through? Yeah Turkmenbashi is really strange, even for a dictator and reminds me of Alexander Lukashenko, only more wacky like he's living in some fantasy world where he gets to name everything and he controls everyone like a dungeon master from that old Dungeons and Dragons game. I wonder why he's not on the axis of evil as he makes Saddam look completely rational by comparison. I mean renaming bread? Come to think of it, maybe I should replace the references I used from the Turkmenistan embassy, although they did look okay. Yeah, the Turkmen did have an advantage when the Mongols came through and destroyed the cities and killed most of the remaining Iranian peoples. I think all the invasions had made them into a rural people, but probably the lure of jobs will turn them into urbanites soon enough. Hmm, as for the move from Oghuz to Oguz, I guess it would be okay. Although the main problem is that lots of Turkish words could also be altered, but might not reflect common usages in literature. I gotta admit though that I sometimes wonder why everything isn't simply written as it would be in other languages such as Deutschland rather than Germany etc. Anyway, sure go for it. We'll see what abdulnr has to say as he probably knows more about local Turkmen personalities since he grew up in Azerbaijan. Or maybe Grandmaster too. Tombseye 02:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I was away and will be again for a week - but I am struggling to find a world renown personality in Turkmenistan worth mentioning - that is why for the picture I would like to add the generic turkmen girl in trad. attire. BUT: There are plenty of underreported heroes like banned writer Esenov or Boris Shikmuradov, leader of opposition languishing in a real dungeon. I think these people deserve mention? Turkmenbashi is mad but not suicidal, he knows how to choose friends, and stays clear of making trouble, and he has a lot of natural gas. This is in short an answer, why he will never be in the axis of evil.

Azeri vs Azeri

Hey Khoikhoi, I had an Azeri who requested that I step in a feudal match between him and Grandmaster, claiming that he is violating his freedom of expression on this board. I defered, hoping that you can resolve the conflict. Here is his message in its entirety:

Are you an Admin? If you are please look at the threats that user:Grandmaster is issuing towards me for freedom of expression. He is trying to manipulate the system against me because I am an Azari who does not beleive the rheotoric from Ankara and the corrupt political elite of Baku. I am an Iranian not a Turk, just like the majority of Azaris view themselves. I do not beleive that their are'Armenian terrorists.' I recognize the fact that Azaris are a kin to the Armenians too. When I show evidence and verify this user:Grandmaster threatens me or deletes my statemsnets on the talk page and tries to have me blocked. If you are an admin please mediate. His bias and propganda is terrible. User:72.57.230.179

Pan-Iranism

Hi. Have you seen Azeris being included as Iranian people in Pan-Iranism article? I removed them, but probably that is done in many other articles. Grandmaster 19:35, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

I want the picture for Azari people to be reformated

I want Googosh in it as well or another Azari from Iran. It is high time this change should be done 72.57.230.179

The article is wrong both her parents even come from Baku 72.57.230.179
I looked at the article. It even say from Azarbaijan, but it is wrong. Plus we have a major problem were the word Persian and Iranian are being substituted for one another, a lot of the edits wars and misconsiptions on ethnicity are due to this. It is like substituting English and British or Russian and SOviet. She is not a Persian.

Googoosh was born Faegheh Atashin in 1951 on Sarcheshmeh Street, in an old and worn down part of Tehran, to Azerbaijani immigrant parents from the former Soviet Union. When she was two, they separated. Because of her father's profession - he was an acrobat and an entertainer - she grew accustomed to the stage early on, and was part of his act until she was three. She began doing impersonations of some of the singers of the time. When her father discovered this talent, he put her on stage. She has been on stage as a paid professional since she was three.

Also when writting to me or to any Iranian Azari please right Azari not Azeri, thank you. 72.57.230.179

Nizami

Hi

Thanks for the kind message. Actually the part that I meant was rude, was the part when Alexander (who is praised highly by many Muslims because he was believed to be the Dhul-Qarnain of the Qur'an) addresses the Turkish Khaghan on his way to conquer parts of Central Asia and Western China (Chinese Turkistan) :

It translates to (my rough translation): 1) He opened his mouth and cursed at Turks 2) and said: "Without discord/disbelief(fitnah) No Turk is born from a mother

3) do not expect anything from chinni except a movement of an eyebrow (In Persian poetry Chin refers to Uighyur western China and parts of Central Asia while Machin refers to mainland China. For example Ferdowsi calls the ruler of the Turks as Khaghan Chin) 4) because they are covenant-breakers and can not be trusted

5) The wise people of the past said it in truth 6) that there is no honor and faithfullness in chinni

7) They all have accepted Tang-Chesmi (meaning narrow eyes) (like in the mongolian race) (meaning also they can't see well..) 8) they have only seen greatness and wideness in the eyes of others

9) Have you not heared that their love is equal to hate 10) the heart of Turk-e-chinni is full of crookedness

11) If the Turk-chinni had any honor 12) then the earth would be clothed under chinn

The term Turk in Persian poetry is also used symbolically as a cruel lover. Sometimes since Turks were yellow and light skin (like many chinese), they are contrasted to Ethipions and Hindus. The same with Romans and Africans. That is a poet might compare himself to a Turk and call another a Hindu. For example Rumi says: "I am sometimes a Turk, sometimes a Hindu, sometimes a Roman, sometimes a Black-African..." and these are to be taken very symbolically. Turk here means beautiful/ruler, Hindu means slave/ugly, Roman means day and Black-African means night. Ann Marie Shimmel (sorry for the bad spelling) has a good article on this. Also at that time there was no Anatolian Turk or Azarbaijani turkic speakers, as the term "tang-chesm" (narrow eyed- slint eyes) is used many times all over by Rumi, Nizami, Sanai, Ferdowsi, Hafez.. and other Persian poets.

The reason I didn't translate the above part is because I did not want Azarbaijanis of the Caucus who are Iranian in culture and heritage but mainly Turkic in language (due to linguistic shift) to be offended. Interestingly enough, Nizami Ganjavi got big in the Caucus due to the efforts of Stalin. (He was always well known the Persian speaking world). They even tried to forge Turkish poetry and assign it to him! The poetry of Nizami was long translated to Russian, English, German, French, Arabic.. way before it was translated into Azarbaijani Turkish (only about 80 years ago). Either way now, he is know as the greatest figure of the Azarbaijan republic and Stalin and the current Azarbaijani government have invested a lot on him (and make up many silly arguments to try to make a him turk). The issue cameup during small revolts in Azarbaijan, Armenia and Georia during the era of Stalin. In order to pacify them, Stalin marked a day to celebrate the greatest figure from each land. Armenia and Georgia were no problem and they each presented a great figure. But no matter how hard the authorities of the republic of Azarbaijan tried, they could not come up with a great literary figure. They tried two times and no one of significance from the area had contributed to Azarbaijani Turkish poetry. Giving up, they looked for a great figure just from the area and all indicators pointed to Nizami Ganjavi and you know the rest of the story..Here is a link about Stalin and Nizami! (weired things happen when you mix Stalin with history..). Have a look : http://www.muslimsonline.com/babri/azerbaijan1.htm

Ah, you lucky sob, travelling is always great!

Wish I was travelling more than inside the US this summer. Israel should be interesting regardless though as it's a fascinating country, even if I don't agree with their policies myself. They make some interesting films too. I saw one flick that was shown on the Independent Film channel about some Georgian Jews in Israel and how their son is this free spirited guy who falls for this hot older divorcee (and man was she hot), but has to break it off when his family find out about it and threatens to kill the divorcee and her daughter. He settles for keeping her as a mistress which is the 'proper' thing to do. While watching the film I really thought to myself how similar they seemed to the Levantine Arabs (such as the Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians etc.) in various ways. Can't think of the damn name of the movie though. You should mingle with the Israeli Arabs while you're there just to get different perspectives on how life is there. I had a friend who went to the Occupied Territories too (and she's Jewish so pretty brave) and not just the settlements but including Bethlehem. Your being American should help with the chicks as I hear the nightlife is pretty good. Those poor Kalmyks. Sometimes I think they were better off having the Soviet Union as opposed to the weird situation today. Yeah, I guess we have to stick with the policies of wikipedia. Any interesting stopovers on the way to Israel? You should try Beirut as I hear, thanks to the Christians, their nightlife is jumpin' according to my Canadian friend who went to Iran to study up on the history of US intelligence in the region. Lucky bastard, they offered him a lecturing gig and he's only got a Master's degree (same as me)! Tombseye 05:32, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Help on Pakistan Occupied Kashmir

Seems like a propaganda page as the Indian Occupied Kashmir page was redirected and serves no purpose. Can you put in your 2 cents on the matter as I think the article should be redirected or simply deleted as it's just a nationalist page. Tombseye 16:13, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, dude!

Did you see this? You are listed among Takip edilecek tescilli Türk düşmanları (Notorious enemies of Turks to be pursued). Ciao! Behemoth 00:05, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Yep, sure. But I don't know the guy. How am I gonna tell him? Behemoth 00:35, 23 May 2006
OK, I'll just copy & paste. I found this one too. Well, I'm not proud of myself but a little conspiration doesn't hurt anyone ;-) 00:40, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Khoikhoi.

I'll try to take a look at the article you mentioned. Gotta go now. (man I wish I could buy a ticket for June to Germany to see at least one game). :( --Zereshk 00:18, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

At least we have the NBA here. (but Im thinking that our team will probably lose the game against Dallas and be eliminated from the playoffs). Dallas is up 23-16 as we speak. Dang it. >:( --Zereshk 00:23, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Khoikhoi, what are you doing on Greek-speaking Muslims page for Christ's sake? Behemoth 00:37, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

I made a new tiny edit to further explain the case. For, the fact is Pontic-speaking Muslims in Trabzon don't call themselves as "Pontic Greeks", in fact they call themselves nothing but refer to the language they speak as Roméika. The issue is highly sensitive. Perhaps you don't know, Trabzon is one of the places where Turkish nationalistic sentiment is extremely high. I hope you'll like the new formula. Ciao! Behemoth 13:10, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Also I reduced the figure for Pontic speakers. 100,000 seems to be inflated. Those regions where Pontic speakers live (interior villages of valleys) have a low population density in contrast to the littoral in Trabzon, which is one of the most densely populated locations in Turkey, where you may find people who are of "Pontic Greek-speaking descent" (to confirm the figure provided by Asan) but Pontic language had died there long time ago. Ciao! Behemoth13:17, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Armenians_of_Lebanon

I have been trying to add some usefull links such as a page dedicated to Lebanese of Armenian origins, under the section :

http://en.wikipedia.org/Armenians_of_Lebanon

The link in question is http://www.leb.org/v3/search?words=Armenian And full listing at: http://leb.org/v3/armenian

But you keep deleting it... It is not a commercial site, try the link and you will understand; this has been helpfull for the Lebanese-Armenian community (yes, a huge one that we are proud of). I had added several other usefull links that you deleted (under lebanese people and per lebanese village). I won't bother anymore anyways and leave it up to you. Thanks.
