2013 June rugby union tests
Tournament details
Dates26 May – 6 July
No. of nations19

The 2013 mid-year rugby union tests (also known as the Summer Internationals in the Northern Hemisphere) refers to the rugby union Internationals that are played through June, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere.

These matches will be the second year of the global rugby calendar established by the International Rugby Board (IRB), which runs through to 2019. The tours will mostly include tests between Northern Hemisphere nations and Southern Hemisphere nations, while some will play mid-week matches against provincial or regional sides.

The upcoming Summer Tours will coincide with the 2013 British and Irish Lions tour to Australia playing a three-test tour against the Australian side, plus seven non-test matches against Australian Super Rugby sides, a Combined NSW-QLD Country team, and a match against the Barbarians to celebrate 125 year of the Lions tours. Visits to South Africa by touring teams; Italy, Samoa and Scotland, will form a South African Quadrangular Tournament, and for Samoa a warm-up fixture against the Lions a week before their test against Scotland. France will tour New Zealand for a three-test tour, their first encounter since the 2011 Rugby World Cup Final, and a mid-week match against the Auckland Blues. England played a two-test tour against Argentina, and played a warm-up match against South American XV, which was made up of players from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. Before touring South America, England al so played their annual uncapped match against the Barbarians at Twickenham.

Like in 2012, the new global calendar provided expanded Test opportunities for Tier 2 nations. Japan hosted a two-test tour against Wales. This was their first home match against a Tier 1 side since their defeat against Italy in 2006. Ireland repeated their 2009 tour, and tourws North America playing a test against United States and a test against Canada. Argentina will host Georgia for the first time on home soil, and for the first time outside the Rugby World Cup.

Unlike in 2012, Fiji will not be taking part in a tour, but will host a Centennial Test match against the Classic All Blacks which will be made up of All Black players who are no longer signed to the NZRU.

For Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, the matches will act as warm-ups ahead of the 2013 Rugby Championship.
