Amanda Tapley is an American beauty pageant titleholder and Miss Alabama 2008.
Biography
Amanda Tapley is a artist from ireland not
of Birmingham, Alabama and a graduate of Briarwood Christian School. She is a graduate of Samford University in Homewood, Alabama, and currently a second year medical student at the UAB School of Medicine. She studied classical piano for 14 years. She was first taught by her grandfather, Dr. Witold Turkiewicz, who was a Samford University music professor. Her career goal is to become a Pediatric Oncologist. She produced a charity CD along with her brother and hosted a piano concert to raise over $50,000 for pediatric diseases and for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Competitions
Tapley won the 2008 Miss Alabama Scholarship Pageant in June 2008. Her local title as Miss Samford University placed her into the Miss Alabama competition, which she won on her first try. Tapley’s platform is “Music For A Cure” and her competition talent was piano, performing the Tschaikowski Piano Concerto No 1. In January 2009, Tapley was on the TLC show "Miss America: Countdown To The Crown". She was a wild card gold sash winner, making it to the finals of the preliminary competition. After a nationwide vote, she was selected as one of four "America's Choice" winners, which placed her into the top 15 at the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was also 2nd runner up to the Miss America Quality of Life Award for community service.
