History
Originally known as the Clutha Employees Credit Union, The Mac was founded by a group of truck drivers and miners that aimed help local coal miners who were being denied acces to financial products and loans.
The Credit Union developed quickly, and in a short time became an integral part of the local community. In 1978 membership was extended to the entire Macarthur district, and Clutha Employees Credit Union became known as Macarthur Credit Union: a credit union born to serve the financial needs of the Macarthur district. In 2013, Macarthur Credit Union became The Mac to reflect the personalised culture and customer service of the credit union. Priding itself as friendly, helpful and supportive, The Mac remains the only community credit union within the Macarthur region.
Timeline
12 November 1971 The Clutha Employees Credit Union Ltd opens, to service the 2,000 employees of Clutha Mines.
26 April 1978 The name of the credit union becomes the Macarthur Mutual Credit Union Ltd. Membership is extended to the local Macarthur community.
15 May 1979 The Picton Branch opens.
9 August 1979 The Credit Union moves from rented premises to their own premises in Argyle Street, Camden.
31 August 1985 Prime real estate is purchased to erect the existing, modern head office in Camden.
1 March 1990 The Narellan Branch opens.
14 February 1991 Construction begins on the new site in Camden.
11 April 1992 The new premises for the Macarthur Mutual Credit Union are officially opened.Now approaching $40m in size, the Macarthur Mutual Credit Union is the largest locally based financial institution.
1 December 1994 The Tahmoor Branch opens.
20 January 1995 A change of name occurs; the credit union becomes known as Macarthur Credit Union.
May 2010 New office in Oran Park Town is opened to service existing members and welcome in new suburbs with Mobile lending services.
1 July 2013 Macarthur Credit Union rebrands and is now known as The Mac.
