Alex Germains is a Liverpool based composer, performer and sound artist. He was the lead singer and guitarist, as well as the co-songwriter and co-producer of The Mountaineers. He was bass player in the band Echo & the Bunnymen from 2000-2001.
He has also produced and remixed songs by several groups, including The Cuckolds, 28 Costumes, and Goldfrapp, Stealing Sheep, Emily and the Faves, Elfin Spurs, and Zukanican.
Since 2007, Germains has attended Liverpool Hope University, studying a Bachelor's Degree in Music, Popular Music and Music Technology, followed by a Masters in Popular Music Studies. At present, Germains is completing a PGCE in post-compulsory education and training, and is working towards a Doctorate in Popular Music studies on the subject of 'The Memetics of Popular Music'. Working as Alex Mountaineer, and more recently 'Germanager', he produced an album of new songs that have begun to attract attention from the media, garnering plays on 'The Pool' with Dave Monks' on BBC Radio Merseyside, and 'Adam Walton's Magical Mystery Tour' on BBC Radio Wales. He is also working with new musicians in Liverpool, including musicians/visual artists Emily Lansley and Chiz Turnross.
He also plays with the band Melodie du Kronk, and is an occasional member of improvisational synth-jazz group Zukanican and its spin-off project Zukazeit, featuring Harry Sumnall, James Pagella, Tom Sumnall and Phil Lucking.
Germains is moving increasingly towards the areas of sound art, soundtrack composition and academic research in the field of cultural studies.
