Early life and background
Kapoor was born in Mumbai in 1992. Her father, Shakti Kapoor, and her mother, Shivangi Kolhapure Kapoor, are both actors in Hindi films. She is the niece of actress Padmini Kolhapure and director Tejaswini Kolhapure, and the grandniece of singers Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar. Her older brother, Siddhanth Kapoor, is a former disc jockey, and actor. On her father's side, Kapoor is of Punjabi descent, and on her mother's side, she is of primarily Marathi ancestry. Like her mother, Kapoor has stated that she is a complete Maharashtrian. During her childhood, believing she possessed a dainty voice she took up singing classes as she was fond of singing. Kapoor acted in theatre and participated in fashion shows while attending Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu, Mumbai, and at the age of 15, she enrolled in the American School of Bombay. While there she played soccer and handball competitively. Later, she enrolled at Boston University majoring in theatre studies. During a vacation in India, she was spotted by producer Ambika Hinduja who cast her for a role in Teen Patti.
Career
Kapoor debuted in 2010 in the film Teen Patti, where she appeared as a college rock star alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley and R. Madhavan. The film failed at the box office, though Kapoor's performance attracted a generally positive reception from critics. Preeti Arora stated that "hough a bit raw, has a lot of potential.″ Nikhat Kazmi said that "Shradha Kapoor makes an interesting debut as the edgy youngster who sheds her specs for sleaze, with alacrity." Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama added that Kapoor "get maximum footage and stand out." Kapoor was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
In 2011, she signed a three-movie deal with Yash Raj Films, and was featured in the lead for Y-Films's teen comedy Luv Ka The End. The film failed at the box office, however Kapoor's portrayal of a college student who plots against her boyfriend (Taaha Shah) after he betrays her, generated mostly favourable reviews. Taran Adarsh commented that ″Shraddha is a revelation, catching you unaware with a confident performance. She's electrifying in the sequence when she breaks down after getting to know the true intentions of her lover.″ Komal Nahta noted that ″Shraddha Kapoor does well. She performs very confidently and impresses in her second film.″ Ankur Pathak opined that ″Shraddha Kapoor has a charming screen presence, and though she's not a proficient actor so far, she is above average as the conflicted girl with a stubborn motive.″ Gaurav Malani was more critical, saying that "Shraddha Kapoor's role is decent but she doesn't rise over the average script.″ For her performance, Kapoor received the Stardust Award for Best Actress. Before Kapoor's three-film contract with Yash Raj Films was completed, she signed up for Mahesh Bhatt's Aashiqui 2, thereby cancelling the contract.
In 2013, Kapoor appeared in the romantic musical drama Aashiqui 2. Her character, Aarohi Keshav Shirke, is a small-town bar singer who becomes a successful playback artist with the help of singing superstar Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur). The film was a major box office success with global revenue in excess of ₹1 billion (US$12 million). Kapoor earned positive reviews. Anupama Chopra called her a "real triumph" and added that her "porcelain face has a haunting vulnerability." Madhureeta Mukherjee reflected that ″Shraddha looks innocently beautiful. Letting her emotions play out brilliantly in high-strung scenes with supreme confidence. This is a talent to look out for.″ Taran Adarsh further commented that ″Shraddha gets to sink her teeth into this challenging character and the attractive youngster is simply amazing, more so towards the demanding moments in the second hour.″ However, Vinayak Chakravorty wrote that she "looks pretty fails to add spark." That year, she appeared in a supporting role in the romantic comedy film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, playing the fiancée of Sriram Venkat (Imran Khan), in which she was being reminisced by Venkat about his past romance story with a feisty activist, Dia Sharma (Kareena Kapoor).
Kapoor is filming for Ekta Kapoor's The Villain, where she will feature opposite Sidharth Malhotra, and Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider with Shahid Kapoor. She has also signed for Radhakrishna Jagarlamundi's Gabbar alongside Akshay Kumar.

In addition to acting in films, Kapoor has supported charitable organisations and performed for stage shows.
