A triptych by Giovanni del Biondo in 1370

A triptych (from the Greek tri- "three" + ptychē "fold") is a painting which is divided into three sections, or three carved panels which are hinged together to form a complete artwork.

Triptychs were most common with Renaissance painters and sculptors, especially those who presented religious themes. Altarpieces in churches and cathedrals, both in Europe and elsewhere, were often in triptych-form. One such cathedral is Llandaff Cathedral.

Hans Memling painted a religious triptych.

A triptych is also a type of branching on a printed circuit board.
