Liverpool (El Puerto de Liverpool S.A. de C.V.) is a chain of department stores in Mexico, operating over 20 stores throughout Mexico.
Stores under the name Fabricas de Francia belong to Liverpool as well but don't carry the name. Fabricas de Franciaare found in cities not big enough to carry the Liverpool name, even though they are operated and work in the same fashion.
History
Liverpool, first called The Cloth Case, was founded in 1847 by Jean-Baptiste Ebrard a Frenchman who first started selling clothes in cases in Mexico City's downtown. In 1872, he started importing merchandise from Europe. Much of the merchandise was shipped via Liverpool, England, prompting Ebrard to adopt the name Liverpool for his store.
