The term newbie is an informal term for a newcomer to a particular corner of cyberspace, used in either a disparaging or a friendly way. More specifically, it is used of someone apt to ask allegedly "dumb" questions and generally act gauchely and uncool, to the consternation or amusement of the old hands. They are often picked on or have unsatifying welcomes. If friendly to the place, they tend to learn more and stay; if not frendly, they tend to be "kicked out" from that place.
