On 18 December 2013, the Maltese national broadcaster ] (PBS) and the ] (EBU) announced that the 2014 contest will take place in Malta. During the winner's press conference, representatives of the Maltese broadcaster unhesitatingly shown their desire to host the 2014 edition of Junior Eurovision, following the ] victory at the ]. ], the executive supervisor for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, announced that for the first time in Junior Eurovision history there would be no host city for the contest, but the island of ] as a host island instead. This will be the first time Malta will have hosted any of the ]-related events.<ref name="Malta Host"/>

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 is the 12th annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in the Mediterranean country of Malta. This is the first time the contest will be held in Malta. It will also be the third time in the history of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest that the event will be hosted by the previous year's winning country, after Malta won the 2013 edition in Kiev, Ukraine, with the song "The Start" by Gaia Cauchi. Maltese national broadcaster PBS will be the host broadcaster for the event.

The date of the final is 15 November 2014 and it will be held in Malta Shipbuilding in Marsa, near Valletta. So far, eight countries have confirmed their participation.

  •  Czech Republic – ČT has said that they haven't ruled out a participation in the contest.
  •  Denmark – DR and TV 2 have said that they have no plans to return to Junior Eurovision.
  •  Hungary – The participation of Hungary in the contest is near certain, but yet to be confirmed.   •  Iceland – RÚV, the Icelandic broadcaster, has exclusively revealed to Eurovoix.com that they will “most likely” be debuting at this year's contest in Malta. They said: Most likely yes, but nothing has been decided yet.
  •  Ireland – One of the Irish broadcasters, RTÉ, has announced that they in fact, do not have any interest in participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, despite attending the meeting. However other Irish broadcaster, TG4, has said that they are interested in the contest. TG4 is looking at other sources of funding after the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland refused to fund participation. If TG4 do not get any other sources of funding, Ireland will not be able to take part in this year's contest.
  •  Macedonia – After the bad result in 2013, Macedonia is considering whether or not to withdraw from the 2014 contest.
  •  Norway – The Norwegian broadcaster, vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvcNRK, stated on 18 December 2013 that Norway won't return in 2014.
  •  Spain – During the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, the head of the Spanish delegation, Federico Llano, in statements to the web esc-plus.com said he was not planning to participate this year in the junior festival. If Spain were to return in the future open castings and auditions would be held across the country.
  •  United Kingdom – ITV have said that they will not be returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
