Erskine Bridge

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. --John (talk) 13:47, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Hey, could you please stop marking your edits as minor when they are not? --John (talk) 16:23, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

This is not a minor edit. Could you please not mark non-minor edits as minor? This is the third time I am politely asking you this. Thanks. --John (talk) 15:21, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 3

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Erskine Bridge, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Absconded (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

January 2014

Please don't introduce capitals unless they denote proper nouns or the beginning of a sentence. The style guide is at WP:MOSCAP. --John (talk) 15:49, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Are these your own words, or did you copy-and-paste from a source? If the latter, in most cases this is not allowed. Please amend your edit. --John (talk) 14:04, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello. I'm new to wiki so apologies if i have made any mistakes during adding info to this page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Discolover18 (talkcontribs)

That's perfectly ok, I understand. We were all new once and I appreciate the work you are doing. But we must not use another person's words. That is not only against our policy, it is also against the law. Can you check all the edits you've made today and remove any words which are not your own? If you need some help paraphrasing, I can help you. --John (talk) 14:55, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
On second thoughts, I have done it for you. We can't take chances with copyright violation. Let me know if you need any more help. --John (talk) 14:58, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello. This is all my own work. I have scoured the internet for days. Thanks very much for your ongoing patience. Btw any chance you could add a map for me?? Again, thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Discolover18 (talkcontribs)

I can show you where to ask for a map. --John (talk) 15:43, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

As you can see, i'm not that good at wiki. I wouldn't know where to start.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Discolover18 (talkcontribs)

Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Transport in Scotland isn't that busy but it'd be the best place to start. Just post your request at the bottom of the page. Sign your posts there (and here) by typing --~~~~. You'll soon pick up the skills; I and other people are here to help you. --John (talk) 15:54, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Copyvio warning

You said these were all your own words, but a simple Google search shows otherwise. You wrote: The Scottish Executive was empowered by the Erskine Bridge Tolls Act 1968 to levy tolls on vehicles using the bridge during a period of 20 years from its opening or as subsequently extended by order. These may be sufficient, but not more than sufficient, to defray the costs of the construction, improvement, maintenance and repair of the bridge, and to make provision for the cost of its administration and for its continued operation after the end of the toll period

which is a direct copy and paste from The Scottish Government is empowered by the Erskine Bridge Tolls Act 1968 to levy tolls on vehicles using the bridge during a period of 20 years from its opening or as subsequently extended by order. These may be sufficient, but not more than sufficient, to defray the costs of the construction, improvement, maintenance and repair of the bridge, and to make provision for the cost of its administration and for its continued operation after the end of the toll period.

I'm slightly annoyed that you made this mistake, but I am more annoyed that you were not truthful and made me go to the extra work of looking it up. Please do not introduce copyright violations into Misplaced Pages articles, and please answer truthfully if someone asks you a reasonable question regarding your edits here in future. --John (talk) 15:50, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Didn't really understand what you were meaning. Apologies. I get it now though. Also just figured out (today) really, how to actually get a message to you. So thanks. And i really do hope the tolling bit is ok now. There is no cut and paste bits. There's not much more info i can find. I'll try that link for a map. I would probably need you to help us with that bit though. You must have patience of saint btw.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Discolover18 (talkcontribs)
Don't worry, no real harm was done. It's a steep learning curve editing here, and we are all volunteers and all started where you are now. Just ask and I will help you. Another possibility if I am off-line is to post {{helpme}} here on your talk page and someone else will pop in. --John (talk) 16:05, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Nice one. After the bridge though, am done. I just wanted to beef it up a bit. Before it was good. Now it's much better. It's quality a landmark for all the right and wrong reasons. I just wanted people to know a bit more about it. Also when i get a map, i'll ask you for you help. Cheers.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Discolover18 (talkcontribs)
That's a shame; I thought I could maybe have got you interested in looking at Kingston Bridge, Glasgow, Clackmannanshire Bridge and Kincardine Bridge, all of which could do with some work. It's up to you though of course. --John (talk) 23:47, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Information icon Hello and welcome to Misplaced Pages. When you add content to talk pages and Misplaced Pages pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 09:34, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm responding to your help request. Seeing as you didn't seem to supply a question (or anything else for that matter) along with your help request, I am closing it. Please feel free to add a question and replace the {{helpme-helped}} tag with {{helpme}} again. Cheers! ~ | twsx | cont | ~ 11:53, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

I just wanted to know if there is a place you can request somebody to do an article for you.--Discolover18 (talk) 12:27, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

I appreciate the fine work you have done on Erskine Bridge and Erskine Ferry. The encyclopaedia is the better for your work. Thank you. John (talk) 21:57, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
