The 2013-14 Turkish Basketball League, also called Beko Basketball League due to sponsorship reasons, was the 48th edition of the top-flight professional basketball league in Turkey.

After the regular season, in the playoff finals Galatasaray Liv Hospital and Fenerbahce Ulker came head to head. Galatasaray were the defending champions. Fenerbahce Ulker won the first two games with an home game advantage. Then the series went to Abdi İpekçi Arena, Galatasaray's home field. Galatasaray won the the third game and at the fourth game, as the series were coming to a close, things got tense. During the game because of Galatasaray's fan behaviour (losing bad language, throwing debris on the field) referees made anouncements and also left the field for 15 minutes. At the same game Željko Obradović, Fenerbahce Ulker's head coach, was disqualified from the game because of getting two technical fouls in a row. After the game, Turkish Basketball Federation declared that; Galatasaray home court was closed for two games (to be played for women and children fans only). The reasons for that was: bad language, throwing of debris on the field, offical anouncements and selling tickets more than the stadium capacity.

Fourth game, which was at Ülker Sports Arena, started with all these tension. Even though there were many incidents, there were only two anouncements in the game. After the game, the railing broke behind the Galatasaray bench and fans fell through the field but no one was hurt. Ergin Ataman had to wear a police cap to protect from the debris which was thrown behind the bench. In addition, Galatasaray coach Ergin Ataman said his life would be at risk at the Ülker Arena.“My players also think the same. If Obradovic was in my situation, Europe would be up in arms. I don’t know how we will be able to play if the conditions do not normalize.” In a later statement Turkish Basketball Federation said that " Ergin Ataman is being disrespectful to Turkey, Turkish sports and Turkish Police."

At the fifth game, in front of women and children fans, Galatasaray won the game 85-77 without any incident.

When the final series was tied 3–3, On 17 June 2014, Galatasaray president announced that Galatasaray will not play Game 7 due to biased Turkish Basketball Federations decisions. First reason officially announced is Fenerbahce Ulker's unpunished courtside actions at Game 5 and the second reason is the allocation of referee Recep Ankaralı, who has been appointed to Game 7 was taped 3 years ago talking to Fenerbahce Official Semih Özsoy saying "everything is under control". Recep Ankaralı was also one of the referees of the second game of the series and made a serious mistake in the game. Turkish Basketball Federation responded to this by saying; "Galatasaray were punished 20 times, Fenerbahce were punished 7 times this season. Also, during the third game, referees had to leave the field for 15 minutes and there were 3 anouncements during the game at Abdi İpekçi Arena but 2 anouncements in Ulker Sports Arena." About the referee Recep Ankaralı, Turkish Basketball Federation said "It's very unfortunate that Galatasaray is saying that the referee was involved with the 2011 Turkish sports corruption scandal which they didn't say anything about before Game 2 which he was also the referee."

Galatasaray chairman declared that "If a person “convicted for match-fixing” is capable of dominating boards of commissions and referees, neither justice nor moral values have any meaning unlike countries where the law abide. If a referee, whose purposeful decisions throughout the playoff series hinted his intentions and whose name is uttered in the recordings related to the match-fixing probations, has been assigned to the crucial final playoff round, it is an evident proof of who runs the show in the basketball federation."

Galatasaray forfeited the seventh game and therefore Fenerbahce Ulker became champions.
