==Plot Summary== | |||
Althea Tibbs is raped by a fellow teacher in her home. In the aftermath, the rapist is arrested, but the prosecutor Darnell does not think they can successfully prosecute the man because the man's wife has provided an alibi. | |||
Eventually, Bill Gillespie learns that the rape of the Althea Tibbs was the latest in a series of rapes committed by this rapist. He convinces the man's wife to tell the truth before anyone else is hurt. At about the same time, the rapist shows up in the Tibbs home - Althea's charges had gotten the man fired from his teaching job, and he is determined to exact revenge. Armed with the wife's confession, the police arrive to arrest the man and take him to jail. | |||
Later on, Virgil asks Althea if she wants to remain in the house. Despite all that had happened, Althea still loves the house in which they live, and is determined not to give in by selling the house and moving. She asks Virgil to accompany her to a clinic that specializes in treating rape victims and their husbands. | |||
