Main Characters

Recurring Characters

Jane Hazlegrove who plays Dixie Dixon returned in episode 1. Michael Stevenson returns in episode 6 to reprise his role as Paramedic Iain Dean. Chelsee Healey joins the cast as well in episode 6, to play Honey Wright, a Tea Lady. This will be the last series in which Matt Bardock, who plays Paramedic Jeff Collier, will appear. He will leave the series later this year. Zoe Hanna temporarily departed Casualty in the final episode of series 28. She will, however, return to the ED this series. Gary Lucy will appear in a standalone episode of Casualty this year. Antony Costa and Georgia Moffett will also appear in an episode later on this year.

In August 2014, Producer Erika Hossington revealed plans for a returnee character. In an interview discussing whether any characters would be making a return, Erika replied with the following:

"There will be another returnee, but it's top secret! I don't want to build the fans' hopes up that it'll be Jordan, as there are no active plans to bring him back at the moment. He's the person I've been asked about most often in my first year in the job, as he's an iconic character who has inhabited both Holby and Casualty very brilliantly. We'd never say never but it's not on the cards at the moment.

"However, there will be another familiar face coming back, but we're not going to announce it. It will be a complete surprise when that person hits the screen in October…"

Production

Erika Hossington will serve as the Series Producer. Oliver Kent is the Executive Producer for the series. The theme tune updated January 2014 will remain the same, however, the title sequence, introduced February 2014, may be updated to correspond characters who are set to arrive, return or leave the show this series. Earlier this year it was announced that Casualty would air three stylish spin-off episodes. The episodes will focus on one of the characters and will have no connections to storylines in the main programme. The first episode will air on 1 November 2014. Additionally, Casualty will air a World War One commemoration episode.

It was also announced that at the end of series 29 a huge storyline will have a great impact on all characters. Series 29 will close with series 30 starting with a major storyline and episode. In an interview Erika Hossington revealed '"I'm very keen to make it a big event! We spoke about live episodes and things like that, but we decided that none of those things were satisfying as they've all been done. What we're doing, no other show has done before…"
