Kobanê Canton is one of three cantons of Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan). It was declared on 27 January 2014. Administrative center of Kobanê Canton is the town of Kobanê (Ayn al-Arab in Arabic). Kobanê Legislative Assembly has appointed a president, two deputies and 22 ministers to rule the Kobanê Canton. Prime minister of Kobanê Canton is Enver Müslim. Population of Kobanê Canton numbering about 400,000 people, mainly Kurds.

ISIL attacks and war crimes

Kobanê Canton has been attacked by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists for several months. In September 2014, ISIL terrorists occupied much of the Kobanê Canton, seizing more than 100 Kurdish villages. As a consequence of ISIL occupation, about 130,000 Kurdish refugees from the Kobanê Canton fled into Turkey. In seized villages, ISIL terrorists committed massacres and kidnapped women. ISIL terrorists, however, were not able to occupy entire Kobanê Canton, as Kurdish forces managed to defend the town of Kobanê and several nearby settlements. Fighting continues.
