If you haven't already, you can put yourself in the new user log and the list of users so you can be properly introduced to everyone. Reflinks part Deux

Last time I posted here it was to bitch about Reflinks being 'down', then it was up again pretty soon. So I try to use it again, and find it's been 'blocked' by the WMF! :-o Ping me if you have anything to say about this. Sigh! 220 of 08:52, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Yes it is out of action again - much to my annoyance (and probably plenty of others who use it on a regular basis). I think, reading between the lines, that the problem is that Reflinks is 'owned' by User:Dispenser and WMF want total control of all tools, or at least want them to be 'free to use / open source' facilities. See here for further 'rationale'. Whatever the reason(s), it is something that clearly needs a swift resolve.

My Oath it needs resolution! The state of the reference formatting of some pages is quite dreadful. I started out early in my editng 'career' spending a lot of time manually editing refs. Joyful day when I discovered Reflinks. Now, back to the editing 'Stone Age'! (pause to allow steam from ears to dissipate ;-/ )

I think we'll need to 'kick' butt of editors who can't bother to add little details like source title, newspaper name, author, ISBNs, page number etc, etc to their sources. It's a lot easier if the creator of a page, who presumably already has, or can quickly re-access that info, provides that data at the start. Without a tool like Reflinks, which still needed a lot of user 'clean-up', page creators being lazy about source data is something I think can't be tolerated. 220 of 16:52, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

I feel that your proposed approach is somewhat contrary to a civil response, and is more likely to create hostility rather than a positive reaction. Apart from that, English people tend to refer to kicking arses rather than butts, the latter of which refers to a cigarette stub. Whilst I fully share your frustration regarding other editor's actions, as in life there are those who abide by the rule(s) and those who do not. The concealed threat of kicking butts, arses, whatever, is not the answer. I am unhappy about the current demise of Reflinks, and hope it will not be permanent. Unless reinstatement, or a viable replacement can be found, then large scale manual reference formatting is beyond the capabilities of anyone.

'Kick' was being used in a metaphorical sense, naturally. ;-P I meant more to textually advise them of the advantages of full references, and ask for them to provide, nicely, but repeatedly! But as you say, its likely those sort of editors may take even good, friendly advice the 'wrong way'.

The ability to literally 'cyber kick' someone in the nether regions remotely is something most internet users, including I, lack. (Something for Apple to look at perhaps, iBoot?)
I did come across an Aussie editor in the sports arena (Rugby?) who IIRC supplied refs but only bare URLs. Wouldn't even try Reflinks when it was linked to and explained to them. As for using 'butt', I must have been partly Americanised by exposure to Misplaced Pages articles in US English!--220 of 02:03, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Wow, well done indeed ! I have never seen any article that I have edited more than a couple of times, ever reach such dizzy heights. In the circumstances a little mild bragging is both allowable, and fully understandable. I will have to remember to keep my eyes open on the 18th !

Suzette Charles

Hello, Caden. The information in the article is mainly correct, as per British Hit Singles & Albums. "Free To Love Again" was released in the UK on RCA Records, which I believe in 1993 was part of BMG. OK ?

Your edits

You do a great deal of very good work, cleaning up articles and general maintenance. But please be careful when ascribing nationalities to BLP subjects where that nationality is not clear, e.g. Andy Silvester might be English, but then he might not be. Let's not guess. Keff Ratcliffe is as likely to be Welsh as English , so I'm just wondering why you decided he was English. If in doubt, "British" is the solution. In both instances the category listings showed English - so I am simply following what others have ascribed there as nationalities. It may be right or wrong, but it is at least consistent throughout the article. Do not get me started on Scottish being Scottish, etc., but the English are always British !

Probably best not to do that then, as categories are plainly not a reliable source. No, I agree with you about the whole "Scottish being Scottish and the English being British" thing, and I've changed Ratcliffe to British. But some people labour under the impression that all British people are English and that they're interchangeable terms. I'd rather be inconsistent than just take random stabs at nationality, and the odds are very high that "British" is accurate, whereas "English", "Welsh" etc may be completely wrong. I think the way that you have represented it in the article is the best solution. The infobox needs both dates citing too - not too sure what to do about the 'categories' though ! I am fairly certain the earlier date is correct - but it is odd that so many 'reliable sources' have stated 1950 (or at least, age 64 at her death). Presumably her death certificate, once publically available, will show the correct details.

Put it about a bit, did old Lynsey, if you catch my drift. No, honestly.

If the Spurs article is of interest

…have a look at today's edits, particularly to the history section. Corrected defeat of French chivalry (!) to cavalry, restructured, and added nice 15th century Italian knight's spur image. Bobby J Watson Rufus

Mr. Bullamore,

I noticed your concentration is on music...and with that stated...I would like to ask - there is a gentleman named Todd Felderstein, who is attempting to publish an article on Bobby Watson, which has been rejected twice.

I am attempting to talk him through what I feel is helpful information so as to get this wiki article done. If...my suggestions do not bring it to fruition, would you be kind enough to consider doing an article on this artist (his fellow band members have articles written on them - some of them) and Watson, seems to have done things outside of "just being Rufus" base player.

I contacted you, because I saw your addition to the Rufus article regarding the work Watson has done with Angela and Janet Jackson...it made me feel you would be the perfect person to get some assistance from.

Hello, MJ. I am normally more than happy to help fellow editors. Can I ask one or two questions. Why is Todd Felderstein, rather than you, trying to get a new article on Misplaced Pages for this bass player and record producer ? I presume you are sort of working together, but you are not too clear. Secondly, why have the previous articles been 'rejected' ? Thirdly, have either of you looked at the notability guidelines ? Also, one factor that is often critical in promoting a proposed article towards Misplaced Pages acceptance is the question of verifiability, and the insistence of supplying reliable sources.

Sorry if I am teaching grandmother to suck eggs, but the Misplaced Pages guidance notes can often greatly help those who are relatively new to the Misplaced Pages experience. At the present time, I would rather coach someone else through the due processes, rather than tackle the subject matter myself. Either way, feel free to come back to me on this topic.

Hello, I am somewhat busy elsewhere at present, but if you can take a bit of friendly advice, then can I suggest that you define how Pajon qualifies, against the criteria set out under WP:Band and/or WP:COMPOSER, on the 'Articles for deletion' talk page. I feel this would strengthen your stance, and give something very specific for his 'notability' to be assessed against. It might also be useful if you could provide independent reliable sources, relating to his TV and film music credits (ideally something better, and more reliable, than IMDb). I wish you well - I am sure you already have a strong case.

I had a fairly brief look at him when his death was announced (never heard of him before that), and concluded that Washington's overall 'presence' was fragile at best. That obituary contains more info about Washington than I unearthed, but to be honest with you I still feel more than nervous about his notability. I think I will pass.

By the way, did you get a chance to look at this ?

Do not remove reference info

I don't understand

I don't understand this edit. The reference is a raw dead link - there is nothing there. There's no clue if and where it moved to. Why would you remove the unreferenced tag? The Dissident Aggressor 19:46, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
