Spider-Man is an upcoming American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, produced by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, and distributed by Columbia Pictures. It is intended to be the second reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise. It is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2017.

Production

Development

In December 2014, emails between Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal and president Doug Belgrad were released after the November hacking of Sony's computers, stating that Sony wanted Marvel Studios to produce a new trilogy of Spider-Man films while Sony retains "creative control, marketing and distribution". The discussions between Sony and Marvel at that time broke down, with Sony wanting to go ahead with its already planned slate of Spider-Man films. However, in February 2015, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced that Sony would release a new Spider-Man film, produced by Kevin Feige and Pascal, after the character appeared in an earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films. Marvel Studios will also explore opportunities to integrate other characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe into future Spider-Man films. It was also revealed that Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, producers for director Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man series, would serve as executive producers. Andrew Garfield, the previous actor to portray Spider-Man, and Webb will not return for the film. Sony is looking for an actor younger than Garfield to play Spider-Man. The Wall Street Journal reported that the character would debut in Captain America: Civil War. The same day, it was reported that Logan Lerman and Dylan O'Brien were front-runners to take over the role of Spider-Man.

Release

Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in North America on July 28, 2017.
