Hi there, Epicgenius. You recently reverted an edit of mine. Now I realize my caption might not have been clear. Confusingly, the mosaic is located at Spring Street on the 8th Ave line, but the subject of the mosaic is the Lexington platform at Union Square. Thus it seemed relevant to the 14th Street – Union Square article. What do you think? Should I restore the image, or just leave it on the ] article? —HorsePunchKid 22:11, 29 April 2015 (UTC) |

Queens photo requests?
Hi! Do you take photos for Misplaced Pages in Queens? If so, I have some ideas at Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/United_States#Queens. Are you interested in taking any of these?
Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 16:35, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- @WhisperToMe: Do you mean c:Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/United_States#Queens? Most of these locations are, on foot, pretty far from me, except for maybe Forest Hills. Plus, my photographs aren't that good. Maybe you can ask User:Jim.henderson about it. Epic Genius (talk) 16:53, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion! I had asked already about suburban photos (Westchester County, NY; Fairfield County, CT; and Bergen County, NJ) and I'll see if he's interested in Queens too WhisperToMe (talk) 17:00, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- Grr, some Misplaced Pages editors get impatient with backbiters saying nasty things about them. My problem is the many good people saying nice things about me and making me want to do nice things for them. Well, it's time I started hitting back. You have done excellent work organizing disorganized bits of Commons, and I've just now noticed that Commons:Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/United_States#New_York.2FEstado_de_Nueva_York is badly organized within itself, and has hardly any links to and from the subcats of en Category:Misplaced Pages requested photographs in New York City. Presumably the rest of the USA is as messy. Kindly check to see if some of the things I just now did there are counterproductive, and see what you can do to straighten things out. Re-subsectionalize, whatever, and plenty of links I think can help, and you can probably think of something better. And maybe something with coordinates. I don't quite see how or what, but surely photographers would be more productive if there were a semi automated way to make a target map. Jim.henderson (talk) 17:56, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

- @WhisperToMe: I don't really know, but you can put the coordinates on these articles and see what happens then. Epic Genius (talk) 02:28, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

- Map of WP requested photos. (Using OSM.) – Epic Genius (talk) 18:15, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip! I checked out the map but I still don't see the old images in Queens. I took a look at Template:reqphoto and I would like to know if I can add individual coordinates to certain reqphoto tags. There are coordinates at The Japanese School of New York but they represent the current location in Connecticut, not the former locations in Queens. WhisperToMe (talk) 14:41, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- @WhisperToMe: It, unfortunately, doesn't look like you can add coords to {{reqphoto}}. You would have better luck in Wikimedia Commons, though. There are more photographers over there than here. Epic Genius (talk) 14:59, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tips! I also inquired about coordinates at Template_talk:Image_requested#Coordinates_for_individual_photo_requests.3F. WhisperToMe (talk) 15:10, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- No problem. Maybe you can inquire at the Misplaced Pages:Village pump, or request an edit to that template (even though you are an admin and can edit Template:Image requested, you can still add an edit request if you need help). Epic Genius (talk) 15:15, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- I went ahead and asked about it in Misplaced Pages:Village_pump_(technical)... I want to add it but I don't how how to program it in. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:18, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- It is regular wikicode. Don't worry, there are plenty of editors that know how to program complex templates in wikicode. Epic Genius (talk) 16:32, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Just out of curiosity...
...what were you trying to do ? I used a couple of novel formatting tricks in that article so I'd like to know if they cause a problem somehow. EEng (talk) 01:08, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- @EEng: I was trying to make sure that the formatting of the images and quotes didn't overlap. Epic Genius (talk) 01:34, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Do they? What browswer are you using? EEng (talk) 01:43, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Same overlapping problem happens with me. I use the Windows 8.1 Start Menu tile version of Internet Explorer. I also use Firefox Developer Edition and the same problems also occur. Doorknob747 (talk) 02:47, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- "Same overlapping problem"... what overlapping problem? EEng (talk) 09:27, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- @EEng: The image thumbnail and the quote's background color overlap, but the image doesn't overlap with the text in the quote. Epic Genius (talk) 13:05, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- So if I'm hearing you right there's no actual problem. It's a side effect of a trick I used to make the layout adjust gracefully to narrowing window width -- if you grab the right edge of the window and gradually narrow it, at the point where the width available for text becomes too narrow, that starting point for the text jumps from left of the image to below the image. I'd appreciate it if you'd try it on your configuration and tell me what you think. EEng (talk) 13:49, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- @EEng: It worked for me in Google Chrome. The image became stacked above the quote. Epic Genius (talk) 15:59, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking. Pretty cute, huh? I try to avoid putting two images opposite each other, but when that does happens, I use the {{nobreak}} trick so that if the window is narrow, you don't get a thin "text sandwich" down the middle between the images. Another example is at Phineas_Gage#Brain_damage_and_mental_changes. Naturally some busybody comes along now and then to remove it, saying "I've never seen that so it can't be a good idea." EEng (talk) 19:26, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Cool. I've never seen it before, but I think it's a good idea, although the quote formatting looks weird to me. Epic Genius (talk) 19:28, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- If you're talking about the Sacred Cod article, yeah, it's a little unusual --you don't see many colored quote boxes. If you're talking about Gage, could you be more specific? Thanks, because this is the first time I've been able to get any feedback on this, other than the busybodies. EEng (talk) 21:41, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- @EEng: Oops, sorry, I meant the Sacred Cod article when I said

. However, the Gage article looks good, and I can see the amount of work you've done on it (1,000+ edits!), so yes, the formatting is workable, albeit unusual. Epic Genius (talk) 21:52, 20 April 2015 (UTC)- Oh goody. Now I can tell people a genius approves of my work. Thanks. BTW, have you visited The Most Fun Place in The Saddest Place on Earth? Hi just noticed you nominated the picture I don't know what resolution they accept for feature picture but I have the original version if you think that would be better or I can save that again. thanks Simsala111 (talk) 01:07, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Doorknob747
I'm acting on a hunch here. I have the feeling that you know Doorknob747 personally, in the real world. If so, you might want to give him some advice. With this edit, Doorknob was banned from commenting on AN/I thread which did not concern him, but he went ahead and commented on two such threads here. You should advice him to stop, to strike out his comments, and to let the banning admin, Floquenbeam, know that he won't do it again. BMK (talk) 04:20, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 27
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Middle Village, Queens, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hispanic American (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

You're welcome!
I appreciate the barnstar very much.
Not too much to it, really—I took a lot of things from List of unsolved deaths (the unsolved murders part, anyway), some from List of people who disappeared mysteriously, and Category:People murdered in New York (although I didn't take every mob hit). We should probably try to limit the entries in that list to crimes that received substantial media attention or had some practical result.
I was surprised that someone had listed all these disasters that, as far as anyone knows, were not the result of someone's malicious intent (unlike the Happy Land fire, which was ... am I wrong or is that still the most deaths from one single person's criminal act in city history?) Perhaps there should be another list of disasters in New York City, where they would be appropriate.
CTTOI, it might be a good idea at some point to spin that list off. It could help shorten the article. Daniel Case (talk) 02:56, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: The Happyland arson appears to be, well, arson, which is pretty much a crime in NYC as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, I'm incidentally the editor who added many of these incorrect entries, so double thanks for trimming the ones that aren't relevant. Epic Genius (talk) 02:58, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
