Welcome!

Hello, Vr, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Got your comment on my talk page. Could you show me a link to the AfD you're talking about? I'd like to look into it. Mangojuice 17:00, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. We should work together to create at least small pages about those great persons. I also wish you a nice time around - wiki-experience is really nice. Please remain in touch. --Bhadani 11:50, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

You are most welcome - I am looking into the matter. OK. --Bhadani 14:08, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I could not pay attention to the matter. After 2nd April 2006, I shall surely do somehting. We shall work on the matter, and do something. I regret the delay. --Bhadani 14:43, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry

I was leaving a message on Bhadani's talk page, when I noticed you asking him for his opinion on your new stub article on the Pontificial Academy of Sciences.

Unfortunately, although it's a very nice stub, a considerably larger article already exists under the spelling Pontifical Academy of Sciences. I've incorporated the information from your stub into the larger article, and converted yours into a redirect.

I do hope this doesn't discourage you from further participation in the project. DS 14:13, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

It is fine. we all shall surely be around to encourage Vr. --Bhadani 14:16, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Marxist philosophy before Marx

Marxist philosophy before Marx has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt the article is "inherently POV". Please refer to WP:NPOV for the relevant policy. You should also please check out WP:OR, and ensure that the information in this article is directly referenced by third-party sources, and not original conclusions. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the prod notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. NickelShoe (Talk) 01:08, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

You'll want to be more specific on the reference. What is the actual article in Funk and Wagnalls you're referring to? Does the article specifically say that these guys were similar to Marx, or is that a conclusion you've come up with? If it's your conclusion (even if it's correct), it's inappropriate for Misplaced Pages, because it's unverifiable until you get it published somewhere. NickelShoe (Talk) 23:24, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Hello. I was about to nominate this article for deletion for the following reason, but I think you should have a chance to comment first:
Stub largely redundant with information already at History of socialism and History of socialism in Great Britain (see WP:POVFORK); I see little that is mergeworthy here. Also, the title is rather counterintuitive, and the claims are unspecific and unsourced (see WP:OR, WP:V) - notwithstanding an unspecific reference to an encyclopedia. The author is encouraged to contribute to the aforementioned existing articles.
Also, I second NickelShoe's comments. Best regards, Sandstein 05:28, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi again.I discussed the article with some friends and they suggested that the title can be altered-Pre-Marx Socialists would be more appropriate.I seem to agree but is ther any way this can be done? Thanks. Also I must apologise-the book History of Scandinavia is by Derry-I had omitted the author's name(Vr 05:23, 23 March 2006 (UTC))

You can move the article with the tab at the top that says "move". But don't capitalize "socialists" if you do. Check out WP:NC for the guidelines on how to name articles. Per Sandstein's comments, your efforts might be better spent improving existing articles on socialism, which will be higher traffic anyway, I assume. But not to tell you how to spend your time here. Mani Shankar Aiyar

I have read the section you added to the article, and the comment by the person who removed it; thank you for coming to me for help instead of getting into a fight about this.

Unfortunately, I have to say that you phrased the new section extremely poorly, such that the anonymous editor was justified in removing it. Many of your statements are suitable for inclusion in the article, but not all: for instance, we don't need to compare his intelligence to that of his brother.

Here are some of the facts, boiled down to neutral language:

  • Aiyar has often been the subject of controversy for his public remarks.
  • Aiyar was censured by the Press Council of India for referring to (who?), the widow of (who?), as a "gangster's moll" .
  • Aiyar was once physically beaten by Amar Singh, for his public remarks. When did this happen? What were the remarks?
  • He has described himself as Rajiv Gandhi's "willing slave". Did he? Were those his exact words? Can you provide a source for that quote? If not, then it doesn't belong in the article.
  • Aiyar has been criticized for staying at Sainik Farm, which is an illegal settlement (why is it illegal? Do you mean he lives there?), despite being a cabinet minister.

Once you have answered these questions, I feel certain that you will be able to incorporate those statements into the article without further complaint (if they are suitably phrased). Although I doubt this is quite the response you were hoping for from an administrator, I hope it is satisfactory. DS 15:36, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Progress

All right, I've tidied up the article a bit more after you re-inserted the facts in a more neutral fashion; I don't think anyone reasonable would have a problem with the article as it is currently presented.

Can you fill in the redlinked articles such as Sheela Dixit? DS 14:59, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

AAAS

I have dared to create a page CURRENT MEMBERSHIP OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES.Please let me know if this is an inappropriate trnsgression on my part.(Vr 06:39, 22 April 2006 (UTC))]

Transgression is too strong a word. Inappropriate certainly - Weyes had placed a {{speedy}} tag on it and I agreed with them. You first fault was of course PUTTING THE TITLE ALL IN CAPITALS. Why? You have edited enough articles to know our conventions - your title shouted at people THIS IS A SILLY ARTICLE CREATED BY A NEWBIE. I also think that: List of members of European Academy of Sciences and Arts is not really encyclopedic.
What I suggest you do for the AAAS is:
  • Create a specimen list at user:Vr/AAAS containing no more than 100 names but ...
  • Properly wikified and in alphabetical or discipline/alphabetical order
  • Leave a message at talk:American Academy of Arts and Sciences (with links to it from any other talk pages you feel appropriate) which ...
  • States what title a complete version of the article would have and asks if people think it worth creating.
Sorry, but you mainly caused the problem yourself by SHOUTING and lack of formatting. -- RHaworth 08:22, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Always free and always busy

Thanks for your message - we should start now. --Bhadani 11:24, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Kindly let me have the list - I will create stubs. We shall see the issue of re-creating the page deleted. Plz do not worry, sometimes, pages get deleted and then again re-created - we will present things with a better perspective and context this time. --Bhadani 09:07, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
By the way, I suggest that you please write few words about you on your user page. --Bhadani 10:12, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Nice to learn about you, the learned one. I shall very shortly create the stubs, if not already existing in wikipedia. Thanks for your support. --Bhadani 07:09, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Unblock request

{{unblock|I am not aware of my account being used by other person.If need be I am prepared to change my username.I only use the Institutional internet which s available to everyone here.Please let me know if a change of username would be adequate-Venkatraman Radahakrishnan,PhD-sign as Vr }}

As the template you added to the page says "If the block message says that your IP address is blocked or that your IP address was recently used by a blocked user, please paste the block message or post your IP address below as we have no way of unblocking you if your username itself was not blocked.", since I don't have that information there is nothing I can do. --pgk 07:01, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi Venkat -- you were apparently the victim of "collateral damage" of an IP block. If you are willing to reveal the IP address you were using when this happened, we can put a note on the IP's page that blocks should be kept short to avoid this sort of thing. I would als be interested if in the message you got saying I blocked you a rangeblock was mentioned, or if it was just a single IP address block. I would also like to know if your institute uses dynamic or static IPs. regards, dab () 12:13, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
no problem, it is annoying to be blocked innocently. But in cases of severe disruption, Misplaced Pages sometimes needs to temporarily block certain IP ranges just to protect itself. I was asking for your IP details to get an idea if the disruption actually came from your institution (meaning, the perpetrator would be one of your co-workers), but if your institution uses dynamic IPs, this would not be likely, and he would just live in your wider area. We saw Mumbai IPs in the past, so I assume you are in Mumbai? (if you aren't, that may just mean he used open proxies, or that there was a collaboration of several people in this, there are many possibilities). regards, dab () 13:01, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Your suggestion

It is really nice to listen from you, after a long long gap. I do appreciate your views. I shall be sending you an e-mail. I also regret that I could not do anything as regards creation of the stubs as suggested by you. Still, I do hope to create few stubs based on your feedback. Regards abd all the best. --Bhadani 06:27, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Let us set the ball rolling! --Bhadani 12:03, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
I will send you a detailed e-mail (say, 2500 words) within a week, with reasons to nominate the President of Wikimedia Foundation for the Nobel Peace Prize. UNICEF perhaps got this in 1965. There are many reasons for our President to get the nomination. Please wait for a week. I am working on matter. I thank you for your interest in the matter. It shall be a recognition to the wikipedians. Regards. --Bhadani 14:43, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
