Recently, I was preparing to re-write some sections of WP:Copyvio and WP:CWW concerning emphasis being placed on copying outside of Misplaced Pages on the one hand, and on the other hand copying within Misplaced Pages. My examination of the various Noticeboards was that many editors and administrators were using the term "copyvio" interchangably to apply to both. I read the following text in WP:Copyvio: '''Some cases will be false alarms. For example, text that can be found elsewhere on the Web that was in fact copied from Misplaced Pages in the first place is not a copyright violation – at least not on Misplaced Pages's part. In these cases, it is a good idea to make a note of the situation on the discussion page.''' This seems to suggest that there is an exclusion for re-using old Misplaced Pages material in new Misplaced Pages articles from the use of the "copyright" phrase at it is largely applied at Misplaced Pages. My question is, is "copyvio" being used as a term-of-art at Wikipiedia to describe the re-use or forking of old Misplaced Pages articles into new Misplaced Pages articles, or is this a misapplication of the legal code understanding of the phrase which recurs in the day-to-day usage of the term among many Misplaced Pages editors and administrators? (I am asking this about the Misplaced Pages side of things and not the legal code side of this question.) Cheers. ] (]) 20:37, 31 August 2015 (UTC) | Recently, I was preparing to re-write some sections of WP:Copyvio and WP:CWW concerning emphasis being placed on copying outside of Misplaced Pages on the one hand, and on the other hand copying within Misplaced Pages. :Thanks {{U|MusicAngels}}, but I've been busy off-wiki. I don't think that re-using parts of old articles into new ones is at all a copyvio. However, it's good practice to use the edit summary to say what one is doing. For example, write "copying some text from ] to ]". ] (]) 01:08, 3 September 2015 (UTC) |

Deletion of Interbeing Facilitation System article
You recently deleted an article that I authored. I understand why and get that since the concept of interbeing facilitation systems is quite new and hasn't received attention from "reliable sources" that it is perhaps too new for inclusion in Misplaced Pages. Is there any way for me to get the text that I wrote back? I'd at least like to have a copy of what I wrote so that I can put it back up after adding in the relevant references to reliable sources. Thanks.

New York state elections
None of the election articles has any historical context info in the lede. These elections formerly happened every year, now every two years, independent of what was going on in the world. To date the election from some other event (for example, one year after the beginning of the big depression, twelve years after the construction of the Eiffel Tower, sixteen years after the death of President Washington) is in my opinion out of scope. Major events may be added in the Background (in older articles called "History") section, if they had a direct influence (explain why) in the election. Kraxler (talk) 13:31, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

A question
Hello dear Bearian. I have a question - did you see this (?) - http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/09/06/its-official-president-obama-is-the-best-economic-president-in-modern-times/ . It is based on Forbes's report. Does this information worth to be written in the Barack Obama article or no? Thanks in advance for your opinion. M.Karelin (talk) 19:50, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
- No. First off, the source and the source it is based on are unreliable and opinion-laded. Secondly, the main Obama article is so long that nothing more can be added without splitting it further. Bearian (talk) 16:04, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

- Sigh. It's sort of the opposite of the situation of the Turkish astronomer who discovers The Little Prince's asteroid: "But he was in Turkish costume, and so nobody would believe what he said." Bearian (talk) 12:45, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- That's an appropriate, if somewhat obscure metaphor. Or, if you're feeling biblical: "For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country." John 4:44 (KJV) Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:31, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/2014 Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's speech at UN
Hi Bearian. I was confused by your remark "we are Misplaced Pages, not USApedia". What was this in reference to? Becky Sayles (talk) 04:15, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
- Becky Sayles, a speech by a United States politician seems to get its own article, but one by a leader elsewhere in the world tends to get deleted. There are too many articles that focus on the USA rather than the rest of the world. I am OK with the redirect/merger. Bearian (talk) 17:30, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Nevada
Hello, Bearian,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether it should be deleted. Your comments are welcome.
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CE9A:860:DD6B:693A:ACF:B874 (talk) 18:46, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

PROD vs Redirect
I stumbled on this thread by pure coincidence and I saw you didn't really get a direct reply. DePRODing to create a redirect is perfectly legitimate. I do it all the time if it's appropriate. Our actual deletion policy leans towards being inclusive and recommends redirecting rather than outright deletion. If you create such a redirect however, do remember to include the :R from...' template on the redirect page so that it loads the correct message and populates the related cat. For example, a school redirect would have this template {{R from school}} which creates a message for anyone who sees the redirect rather than the target page. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:38, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
Lazurus999
I suspect (well, based on what he said on my talk page, I know for sure) that User:Lazurus999, whom you just blocked, is a sockpuppet of User:Wikiblanks. Wikiblanks was blocked yesterday for edit warring, then blocked again about 2 hours later for continuing the edit war with the sockpuppet User:Childprotect1 (report). Is it worth filing another sockpuppet report for Lazarus999 and Wikiblanks? Given the comments Wikiblanks made on his own talk page shortly after you blocked Lazurus999, I think it's unlikely Wikiblanks won't send me more legal threats/insults or make more sockpuppets. Thanks, Tiller54 (talk) 22:36, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining your rationale carefully; I've prodded a lot of this user's edited-too-much-for-G5 stubs, basically just to get rid of ones that didn't appear to have a shred of notability, regardless of their topic. I'm much more in favor of redirecting than deleting, but when possible: as I explained when nominating the article for deletion just now, I don't see a good target. - You want to know how I managed to evade your blocking? Let me reason with you, do you like it if your father doing something on the internet, your father gets blocked unjustly and indefinitely without mercy and second chance? Do you like it if your mother doing something on the internet, your mother gets blocked unjustly and indefinitely? Do you like it if you sons or daughter get blocked unjustly and indefinitely just because of petty issues? If I am an admin and you are ordinary user, do you like it if I blocked you unjustly and indefinitely without a chance to change just because of petty issues? Just be in my shoes and see what happen if I do the same thing as you do towards me... Also, I am just creating an article to contribute to the wikipedia, and, all of a sudden you sent me a message of warning of vandalism. How can a wikipedian user who create a probable reasonable article doing a vandalism and even being blocked unjustly and indefinitely just because to advice you? Think about it... Frozen
I'm contacting you because you were the last admin to edit the protection settings on Frozen (2013 film). Recently (last month or so) the page has suffered consistent vandalism and incompetent edits while only one IP edit has been accepted. Would another period of semi-protection be appropriate, so interest and so unconstructive edits might begin to wear off? BethNaught (talk) 22:07, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Bearian (talk) 22:10, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

- Where do you see 3 reverts in less than 24 hours ???
- I've added information on the 19 November
- It was deleted on the 7 December
- I restored it on the 8 December
- It was deleted on the 8 December
- End of the strory.
- You're threating me in an aggressive manner on the 11 December...
- It is sad that Misplaced Pages admins don't know how to count up to three, as I only revert it once. Blaue Max (talk) 18:13, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- I saw those two reverts, to which you have admitted. I was warning you from doing it three times. I only warned you that you could face sanctions if you did it a third time. I noted, as well, that you've been called out before about your past edit warring. I didn't want to template you, but the next time, I'll be forced to do so, since you don't seem to comprehend subtle hints. Bearian (talk) 20:18, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- Pardon my interjection/interruption. While the WP:3RR provides a bright line, WP:Edit warring is more comprehensive and extends beyond 24 hours. I am passing no judgments here, but think that 'all the guns should be out on the table.' Happy editing to you both. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 20:27, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited A Little Respect, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Neil Francis. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your userrights
I've granted you rollback and autopatrolled, since I figured it might sometimes be inconvenient for you not to have those. I'd be happy to grant you any other rights that are included in the admin package; do you want any of them? Template editor and IPBE particularly come to mind, but I don't think I ought to grant them without asking first. Of course I'll happily remove rollback and/or autopatrolled if you don't want them. Requesting an RFA nomination
Hi Bearian,
I requested an RFA nomination back in December 2013, but you were busy at the time, so I decided to self-nominate. That went down like a lead balloon, but it's been 15 months since then. I've made another 10,000 edits and addressed the concerns of many of the opposers. Since you were willing to nominate me last time, would you be willing to do so now? Crispus
When I saw Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Fletcher Thornton was deleted for being a WP:BLP1E I saw WP:ONEEVENT. I saw that with Crispus Attucks "Little is known for certain about Attucks beyond that he, along with Samuel Gray and James Caldwell, died "on the spot" during the incident." With no history and known for a single event, what made him notable? Couldn't he be merged into Boston Massacre ? Maybe there is a problem with WP policy on this one since everyone in the AFD and you believe it shouldn't be deleted or even nominated. BTW, my cousin just graduated from BHSS. CrazyAces489 (talk) 06:34, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- CrazyAces489, sometimes WP:BLP1E is invoked when really the editors don't want an article about an accused criminal on Misplaced Pages, for whatever motives. While little is really known about Crispus Attucks, his contribution to the American Revolution received much notice in the 1970s during the run-up to the Bicentennial; he was lauded with scholarly and popular articles in the media, a museum was dedicated to his honor, and stamps were issued with his supposed likeness. All of that indicates notability. Fletcher Thornton has had none of that attention in the past 40 years. Bearian (talk) 17:32, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

- ONEEVENT makes exceptions for those who are historically significant. For example, Lee Harvey Oswald is essentially famous for only one event, but it was historically significant. I'd submit to you that a person who is historically significant enough to be featured on a US coin and have numerous (not just one) schools in multiples states named after them, they were probably notable.Niteshift36 (talk) 21:31, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- Niteshift, is there a reason why you're on almost every page I go to? It's like you want us to be besties? I can be ok with that, but i'm just wondering. CrazyAces489 (talk) 21:48, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

- Considering that I have over 29,000 edits, coming across you on a handful of articles is hardly noteworthy. Especially when you remove the ones where we actually didn't cross paths. But considering you're coming to my page to post, you'd be fairly hard pressed to make yourself the victim. Niteshift36 (talk) 02:49, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Not sure if this a proper, think is best to ask first. Am I able to request you for a close for an RfC, we haven't had many interactions in the past and you seem to be a neutral editor and is uninvolved. Is there any policy that restricts this? Valoem 22:34, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Request to reassess article on quality scale
Hi,
Seasons Greetings. This is a request to article Legal awareness, This article has complted three years since I started it on 24th May 2012 since then it has 257 edits and 42 distinct authors. If further supported the article may reach to GA level in future. As of now I want to include article on Law portal page. Undersigned requests to reassess the same on quality scale as per Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Law/Assessment, If you approve it for B class we can include it in Law portal.
Thanks and regards.
Mahitgar (talk) 04:35, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hi there, Mahitgar, I upgraded it to a C-level article, although it might arguably be a B-level article. I made a couple of edits. I'll return when I have more time. Bearian (talk) 12:17, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Advice for younger editors
I notice that you have, very wisely in my opinion, removed your name from the list of alleged supporters of Kudpung's revert of my edit to the above page.
It is not legal advice that is required here, just a bit of knowledge of good practice regarding the protection of children. Suggesting that children make private contact with unknown (to them) adults on the internet is crazy. Martin Hogbin (talk) 08:13, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
- As an educator as well as an attorney, I agree 100% with you. The other editor is not even wrong. Bearian (talk) 12:18, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. Would you mind just stating that opinion on the article talk page. I will then remove the offending paragraph. Martin Hogbin (talk) 13:06, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Legal awareness and Legal consciousness
Hi,
First of thanks for your support to article Legal awareness. Legal awareness and Legal consciousness are certainly related concepts. While researching legal theory about Legal awareness and Legal consciousness, my preliminary observation has been, some authors seems to have differentiate these two concepts, Where as some authors in their writings seems have used Legal consciousness wording for legal awareness and some authors seeems to have done it opposite way.
(I suppose) While doing encyclopedic research and writing we need to differentiate which authors are talking about which concept. Prima facia there seems to enough material avaialable to write a separate encyclopedia article about legal consciousness, (as a differentiated concept level by some authors). So what I prefered to do is I have already created a separate article about Legal consciousness in my user space at User:Mahitgar/sandbox/Legal consciousness. Since you have knowledge about this concept, I request you to help me develope article Legal consciousness in my userspace with your peer review and contribs wherever and whenever possible. Once the article Legal consciousness is ready we can bring the same in main namespace and also researching this topic separately will help to improve article Legal awareness wherever possible.
One of the challange before both articles Legal awareness amd Legal consciousness to maintain them as separate without unwanted confusion between two concepts; at the same time taking due note of interrelation of both concepts in respective articles.
(One more aspect is confusion between between different language wikipedia about these two concept becomes aparant, when we give a look at interwiki links from other language wikipedias and content of those articles)
Actually I am not expert in this subject, my observations may be mistaken and your peer review support will keep guiding me, so thanks once again for your valuable support. (And also thanks, you do bear with my broken english :) and still support me)
Thanks once again. Mahitgar (talk) 01:47, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Alpha Ralpha Boulevard
I see that you're the one who added Ralph Alpher to the "See also" section of Alpha Ralpha Boulevard. Having been reading Smith for 40–45 years, I pretty much sat bolt upright when I saw that.
I assume that you did so because the man's name seems a very likely source for the name of the boulevard. But there's no mention of that in the text, and I see no connection in Dr. Alpher's article or on his Talk page. I also asked his daughter, Rosana Hart, whom I had some brief contact with when I was Senior Linguist at Dragon Systems. She replied
- Knowing my father, he never missed a chance to make a pun on names, but I don't know if this one was.
They were both in classified work, but that's pretty big. Do you have any citeable evidence that they even knew each other, or of any other connection? I'd love to put it into the article, but at the moment it's mere OR. Please {{Ping}} me to discuss. --Thnidu (talk) 06:39, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thnidu, Thanks for the heads up. I did that 8 years ago, as a new editor, and the connection is probably coincidental. I'll remove the link. Bearian (talk) 19:25, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- I doubt it. (Sob!) But necessary, alas. --Thnidu (talk) 22:04, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
NEWS! I found that Alan C. Elms republished his Science Fiction Studies paper "Building Alpha Ralpha Boulevard" on his own website, with no paywall. And there he provides detailed support for the derivation which, though not definitive, makes it seem much more likely than mere coincidence. Alpher himself was also convinced of it, though he and Linebarger never knew each other personally.
Trying to get all this into the article has been quite unwieldy, but there they are: three longish quotes from the pape, shoehorned into the refs. If you can suggest any way to make it smoother, I'd love to hear it. Also, what with sources quoting sources referring to sources, I haven't figured out how to put them all into footnotes, and have had to stick the Elms article in as an External link, referring to it by name when I use it in a footnote. Please {{Ping}} me to discuss. --Thnidu (talk) 06:48, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thnidu It seems that there are lots of puns in this story. I now recall that I inserted in on a hunch. Bearian (talk) 00:51, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

JoAnn Fleming endorsement, and WP:BARE
Hi Bearian, good call on leaving JoAnn Fleming mainspace'd despite her redlink. I've tweaked your syntax slightly, so we don't imply she is THE leader of the tea party in Texas. But, for the sake of narrowing down the meaning of WP:BARE (or perhaps proving that it is not so easy to narrow down), I'm gonna play devil's advocate. After doing a bit of googling, you decided Fleming was on the good side of WP:BARE, but what if I were to argue she is Just Another Activist, and since she is a redlink, must be deleted? ((Assume for the sake of discussion that we have a DFW newspaper which mentions Fleming endorsing Cruz, and that therefore WP:NOTEWORTHY is fully satisfied.))
Okay: insert some hand-waving argument here, that Fleming and her group backed Dwayne Stovall in the 2014 election (true), and clearly her group is mostly focussed on state-level Austin politics (true), and that even though she is a delegate to the Texas state convention, that doesn't mean her endorsement of Cruz will REALLY make any difference. What kind of argument can you give in return, to justify that Fleming belongs in mainspace, that does not boil down to WP:NOTEWORTHY? (honest question, I'd like to hear how you arrived at your conclusion that Fleming is a keep/plausibly-WP:BARE-redlink , as opposed to a revert/no-way-she-could-ever-hit-WP:BARE-status-in-2015.)
p.s. Actually... maybe that is a useful idea... that in order to be in the endorsement-giver list, we could make the rule that you need a WP:NOTEWORTHY mention of the endorsement itself (e.g. DFW newspaper says "Fleming endorses Cruz'16") and then in addition you need (if challenged) to also provide an additional URL which shows that Fleming satisfies WP:NOTEWORTHY for some other action/event/notoriety (e.g. Houston newspaper says "Fleming endorses Stovall'14"). This is just thinking-out-loud, I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not, but I might try applying it to some of the redlinks and see what the split-point turns out to be. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 17:21, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
- Along the same lines, I would be curious to know your assessment of Wild Bill For America, who was added to the list recently. Goes by his stage-name as a conservative speaker, says he is a former deputy u.s. marshal, has a userspace draft (which lists most of the known factoids -- almost 99% entirely WP:ABOUTSELF), and only a couple borderline-WP:NOTEWORTHY hits could I find (which I added to the endorsements-article to show he is a perhaps-just-barely-conceivably-WP:BARE). That said, under his stage-name he has 38k youtube subscribers, ~26k facebook likes, and ~3k twitter followers. By way of comparison, Pataki, who is nominally running for president, has ~35k twit-folls , ~17k face-likes, and ~0.2k utoob-subs. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 20:50, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, Will Bill for America seems notable. At least I've heard of him. Bearian (talk) 23:32, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Really? Well, first time for me on Wild Bill, though I knew about Fleming before. :-) But yeah, he seems to satisfy the kind of fuzzy if-they-are-borderline-we-should-give-them-some-leeway type of analysis that WP:BARE suggests to my ears. Technically, though, his endorsement of Cruz doesn't yet meet WP:NOTEWORTHY, because we only have his youtube-channel, aka WP:ABOUTSELF. Fleming, on the other hand, got coverage on two of her hometown television stations, that I was able to find with a quick search. So, if somebody challenges Wild Bill, it will probably means he gets relegated to a hover-to-see-footnote (aka rule#1_D), or maybe even moved over to the Cruz page (rule#1_E). Anyways, my real worry is not that you and I and the other active-at-the-moment editors cannot use some collective common sense, and figure out that Fleming and Wild Bill *arguably* ought to be kept. My worry is that, when the election season heats up, and we have a LOT of people making drive-by edits, things will get too hectic for calm discussions like this. I'm not a crystal ball, of course, but the politics articles tend to get a little heated sometimes, so I'd like to get some reasonably-fair and efficient system/mechanism worked out now, if we can manage it. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 03:12, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, Will Bill for America seems notable. At least I've heard of him. Bearian (talk) 23:32, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, it has been a week, and although there is WP:NORUSH which always applies, there is also the idea that WP:TIAD. Are you comfy with rule_#1_d, where all the redlinks are visible in a Notes section at the bottom, for the moment at least while we wait for other editors to bangvote on the proposals? I don't like leaving mainspace half-according-to-rule#1_B and half-according-to-rule#1_C much longer. Alternatively, if you would rather get some more input before I start modifications, are you okay with me sending a "your input is requested" message to people that made at least 3 edits in the past 3 months? I'm happy to proceed either way you like. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 22:00, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

- Okay, I'm going to give this a shot. Feel free to ping my usertalk if you think I'm going off the rails. :-) And of course, feel free to be WP:BOLD and help me collaboratively edit mainspace. Talk to you later, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 00:42, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 11
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Decompensation, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fatigue (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

FYI
Hi Bearian! This is just an FYI that I noticed that while you're not an administrator any longer, there are still a couple of "administrator type things" on your talk page: namely, the sysop logo in the upper right-hand corner and then the note at the beginning of the page that says "Please note: If you have urgent and important business, please seek out the assistance of another administrator." Perhaps you're planning to "re-sysop" or perhaps you wanted to keep the aforementioned items on your talk page for whatever reason, but just thought I'd ping you. Feel free to ignore me :) Safehaven86 (talk) 00:54, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, Safehaven86, I fixed it. Bearian (talk) 20:10, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Research Ethics Law: :In re Cincinnati Radiation Litigation, 874 F. Supp. 796
wouldn't it be better to rewrite this case than to delete the article? You could do it faster than I could. DGG ( talk ) 09:10, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- I don't see any evidence that it's notable, or even a precedent. For the next week, I'm going on vacation to Cherry Grove, New York, and on Monday, interviewing at a certain college in LI, so I don't have time. Bearian (talk) 20:09, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

In case you are online
Recently, I was preparing to re-write some sections of WP:Copyvio and WP:CWW concerning emphasis being placed on copying outside of Misplaced Pages on the one hand, and on the other hand copying within Misplaced Pages. My examination of the various Noticeboards was that many editors and administrators were using the term "copyvio" interchangably to apply to both. I read the following text in WP:Copyvio: Some cases will be false alarms. For example, text that can be found elsewhere on the Web that was in fact copied from Misplaced Pages in the first place is not a copyright violation – at least not on Misplaced Pages's part. In these cases, it is a good idea to make a note of the situation on the discussion page. This seems to suggest that there is an exclusion for re-using old Misplaced Pages material in new Misplaced Pages articles from the use of the "copyright" phrase at it is largely applied at Misplaced Pages. MusicAngels (talk) 20:37, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks MusicAngels, but I've been busy off-wiki. I don't think that re-using parts of old articles into new ones is at all a copyvio. However, it's good practice to use the edit summary to say what one is doing. For example, write "copying some text from Leprosy to Leviticus". Bearian (talk) 01:08, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
