Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared.

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recently died. JMHamo (talk) 12:19, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

With all due respect, I only see one instance of vandalism. Let us wait a bit longer, putting the request on hold.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:24, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
It looks like the IP is blocked, but not tagging, to keep it in queue, as a recent death (at least for a little while). --kelapstick 20:44, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

    Kashmir conflict

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – A recent news item in Pakistani media has brought out edit-warring IP's to this page. I request semi-protection for a month to let the issues to be sorted out in a congenial manner. Kautilya3 (talk) 14:13, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – This is a request for extension of semi-protection (currently expires Wed, 21 Oct 2015 07:03:55 GMT), though I am not sure of a sensible duration. Perhaps a month would be useful? Please see the efforts by Bbb23 chasing down the sock puppets of Rajesh-Barclays, puppets which keep arriving, together with Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Rajesh-barclays. Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IPs are changing Ishita Sharma to Ishita Raj. . The Avengers (talk) 16:06, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Where are the administrators? The IPs are continuing to change the name of the actors. --The Avengers (talk) 02:00, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Temporary pending changes: Last vandalism was a few weeks ago, but it was last protected in April 2015. Probably the topic still brings in vandals... not much. George Ho (talk) 18:36, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. NeilN 23:05, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Sir Sputnik (talk) 19:29, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

    Semi-protected--Ymblanter (talk) 19:54, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – An IP jumping anonymous editor is adding claims that the subject of the article has plagiarized a number of songs. Most of the sources supplied are not reliable sources (blogs and the like). The ones that are merely repeat the allegations but do not provide any proof (court cases, lawsuits, in-depth analyses by expert witnesses, etc) or rely upon the listener to hear it for themselves.

It seems to me that accusing someone of plagiarism is a very big deal and under the purview of BLP concerns.

Additionally there is a table that the IP keeps inserting which makes the claims without any discussion of who has made the accusations and whether they have any legal support. Including the table makes it look like a fact that the subject has plagiarized these songs while no supporting evidence has been provided. This strikes me as an even bigger BLP concern.

Finally, there is a talk page discussion going on which the IP has not taken part in but continues to edit war instead.

Semi-protected for a period of a fortnight, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles (talk) 03:58, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP-hopper repeatedly adding irrelevant material, in spite of being reverted by multiple other editors, and being told why the material shouldn't be in the article (repeatedly adding a figure for "partial speakers" in spite of being told multiple times that we only add numbers for L1 and L2 since there's no common definition for anything else...). Requesting semi-protection instead of pending changes so that no editor will be tricked into violating 3RR by the IP-hopper (who obviously isn't a new editor, but a registered user hiding their identity), when "defending" the article. The disruption has been going on for months, and is the main reason why the article was PC-protected. Thomas.W 21:31, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Pending changes: Persistent but long-term vandalism. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 00:00, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

    Pending-changes protected. Courcelles (talk) 04:11, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Currently "A-Class" Article. High level or deletion and changes due to recent release of movie "Bridge of Spies". Have wiki-linked only once to certain words etc through to be consistent. As Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/A-Class states in A2 "The article is comprehensive, factually accurate, neutral and focused on the main topic; it neglects no major facts or details, presents views fairly and without bias, and does not go into unnecessary detail". Therefore people should not be deleting information if people from Military History have passed it due to the above criteria. I ask for upto a seven (7) days lock on the article since I have started a discussion on the Rudolf Abel talkpage as you can clearly see to resolve these issues. Adamdaley (talk) 00:34, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Declined for now. Adam, I'm not seeing recent IP editing. Did you mean to ask for full protection? Sarah 00:54, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Is it only for IP editing? Adamdaley (talk) 00:55, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Adam, semi-protection is for IPs and very new accounts. If the problem is a content dispute between regular accounts, and if people are reverting back and forth, then full protection should be requested. Sarah 01:04, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Another contributor has removed paragraphs and sentences etc from this article claiming they were "cruft". I believe the information he has removed is crucial to the subject of the article. Therefore a week-long lock on the article should be enforced. Adamdaley (talk) 01:51, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

    June 1962 Alcatraz escape

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent IP changes to the lead against consensus. This is likely due to the broadcast of a recent documentary and should die down in a few weeks. Thanks! - Location (talk) 01:17, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

And here come the socks. - Location (talk) 01:37, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

    Seth Rogen

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Some right wing trolls are mad about Rogan's recent comments on gun control. RevDel may also be appropriate for some of the recent edits. Calidum 01:19, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

    User(s) blocked. NeilN 01:30, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

United States men's national soccer team

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Another user keeps adding a goal next to Tim Howard's name. Saying that he scored for Everton. Which is true, but that has nothing to do with the national team. – Michael (talk) 02:23, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Seems like an IP hopping vandal is vandalizing several pages. Admins need to protect and/or range block. Dave Dial (talk) 02:43, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Further information: Misplaced Pages:Edit requests Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Misplaced Pages:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
