World Cup groups

(Re: Style proposal in Chuq's sandbox)

I like the style for group A - it looks very good.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   00:00, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

thanks for that - yeah, the group A one is the the way I want the others to look, eventually! -- Chuq 00:11, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Italy is crowned World champions

Sorry, but I don't think this are good English. ;o)  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   21:36, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Italy is a singular item. It is a single country, a single football team. See Portal:Association football... "Germany defeats Portugal", "Italy defeats France 5-3 on penalties and wins its fourth world cup title." Thanks, — FireFox 10:07, 12 July '06

Then it should be "Italy is crowned World champion" because Champions is plural. Think.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   13:11, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
What exactly do you mean by "Think."? — FireFox 16:58, 12 July '06
to have or form ideas in the mind.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   17:01, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Can you please stop being sarcastic and patronising, and you try and think yourself about staying civil when you post messages such as "Think". — FireFox 17:02, 12 July '06
Yes mum.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   17:04, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I didn't intend to be sarcastic or patronising. I'm sorry if I've offended you.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   17:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Template long and short names

If we were making a squad box for a club with a long name, e.g. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo or Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense we would surely prefer to use Flamengo or Gremio rather than their full name.

Template:National squad does this using (I'm pretty sure) {{{title|{{{country}}} squad}}}. Title is the displayed title, country is the default value. (The link goes to the article Country national football team)

Therefore I think it would be possible to add similar code to the FS2 template without ruining the ones already in place.

Let me know what you think.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   21:12, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Good idea, I've gone ahead and changed the template so now you can enter "title=" to set an alternative title. I don't think it should break anything but let me know if it does. --Daduzi 22:24, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Just noticed that you've implemented it - I take that as an agreement! I've done a trial and it seems to work. Cheers ears.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   22:25, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Template Colour

Hullo. Is there way of stopping the new template format setting that rather nasty lime green as the default background colour? Cheers, HornetMike 23:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I hadn't noticed because it's something that only occurs when using Internet Explorer, which I hate and won't use. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I'll try to fix it.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   23:48, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I knew there was a reason I used IE! To find bugs on Misplaced Pages! Anyway, all is resolved now by the looks of it. Cheers, HornetMike 23:53, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Naughty green bugs! Thanks for alerting me.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   23:58, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Football player infobox2

Just noticed the infobox you added to Jimmy Greaves, and I thought I'd point out that a different infobox exists for retired players Template:Football player infobox shows a list of the others too. It's simple to change the infobox following retirement by adding "2" to the end of the title line.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   18:34, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Okay thanks for letting me know. I'll change the others I've added as well. SteveO 18:49, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Ashley Cole

2006 World Cup Squad templates

I noticed you removed {{England Squad 2006 World Cup}} from Cole's page three times. You may not have known that older World Cup templates were listed at WP:TfD on June 30 (by me) and no consensus to delete them was reached. This means that if an England 2002 World Cup Squad box existed, it would also appear on Cole's page. If you want to list the 2006 templates for deletion I will support you, but we should respect the consensus. Older WC templates can be seen here.  Slumgum T. C.   16:35, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for telling me, I didn't know. :) --Ealgian 19:43, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Ealgian

Previous World Cup Templates

I see you have questioned a few of these previous world cup templates which have been popping up. I have to agree that they are a little bulky (just look at the Paolo Maldini article.

Anyways, I think i've come up with some sort of solution which will suit all.

I've created a basic template above which features a hide button on the side. So, if your in an article, it only needs to be opened when the users wants it. My programming ins't the best. I can't add flags at the side or increase the size of the print. I also can't change the colour of "Hide" or keep the colour in the box white when I link the text to another article.

Do you want to have a go at improving it enough to be used in articles ?

If you want to contribute please post your replies at the discussion section at Template:World Cup Squads as there could be a number of people contributing to this.

Thanks

Template:World Cup Squads

squad templates

Hey, I think we should fix the club templates making them similar to the internationals team templates for the WC where we can attach a hide feature. I tried but I'm having some trouble. Squadoosh 09:27, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Category:FA Premier League players

Hi Slumgum. Apologies for those mistakes, they were just down to carelessness. In my defence I have been putting hundreds of players into that category today so it hasn't come as much of a surprise that I put a few in there that have not appeared in the Premiership, please appreciate this. Thanks for correcting them for me. Bababoum 21:19, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

No worries. I'll keep an eye out for strays and misfits. ;o)  Slumgum T. C.   21:58, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Ukraine national football team

Hi again!

Do you mind assisting me with what to do with regards to the Ukraine national football team page? I've already filed several warnings about the user, (see ), but I also think there needs to be a separate resolution for the football team page. The user does not appear to respond to reason, so I think we need some other solution to the page, since this will become a flat out edit war, especially if the admins don't respond appropriately. Do you mind helping me out with either a poll or some other sort of resolution for the page? Thanks =)) --Palffy 16:16, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Spunti and Kwame Nkrumah are surely the same person. I've never seen the word "Ukraina" used before they both started using it. Sockpuppets should be used for good causes, not to boost minority opinions. :o(  Slumgum T. C.   19:53, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
