Raven Davis

Raven Davis (born 1975) is an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) Aboriginal artist and activist living in Halifax. Davis is a multimedia and mixed media artist, as well as a traditional dancer, singer and drummer.

Career

Davis was trained as a new media/graphic designer, and worked as an independent contract designer for several years. Their preferred visual art mediums have been gouache, soft body acrylic, photography and natural materials.

In 2010, Davis joined the Friends United initiative as an artist and associate. They currently sit on the advisory board. In collaboration with Elisha Lim, their work has recently expanded to include short films.

Personal

Davis's lineage stems from the Saulteaux Ojibwe Nation of Manitoba. Their father is of Scottish and Irish heritage. As a child, Raven was influenced by their mother who is also an Ojibwe artist. They were raised in Toronto and attended Ryerson University and George Brown College.

Davis is two-spirited and prefers gender-neutral pronouns. They speak at schools and art venues, raising awareness around issues of gender, sexuality, and race.
