Amino Acids, Response 13DEC2015

Hello DMacks! Thanks for catching my mistakes regarding the amino acid pages Histidine and Pyrrolysine. I added the links and fixed the sub-scripting as you suggested. When I get the chance to get to a PC with ChemDraw, I'll fix the images as well. Anything else you might suggest? Abuzzanco (talk)

Hello DMacks,

Support request with team editing experiment project

Dear tech ambassadors, instead of spamming the Village Pump of each Misplaced Pages about my tiny project proposal for researching team editing (see here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/Grants:IdeaLab/Research_team_editing), I have decided to leave to your own discretion if the matter is relevant enough to inform a wider audience already. I would appreciate if you could appraise if the Misplaced Pages community you are more familiar with could have interest in testing group editing "on their own grounds" and with their own guidance. In a nutshell: it consists in editing pages as a group instead of as an individual. This social experiment might involve redefining some aspects of the workflow we are all used to, with the hope of creating a more friendly and collaborative environment since editing under a group umbrella creates less social exposure than traditional "individual editing". I send you this message also as a proof that the Inspire Campaign is already gearing up. As said I would appreciate of *you* just a comment on the talk page/endorsement of my project noting your general perception about the idea. Nothing else. Your contribution helps to shape the future! (which I hope it will be very bright, with colors, and Misplaced Pages everywhere) Regards from User:Micru on meta.

Maybe you should not rollback my code in the word "leapyear"

Hi, DMacks:

When I fixed the some mistake of python code in "leap year", my code is rollback by you for the reason "Too much detail/WP is not a how-to manual". I'm software engineer, and I found many people don't known the history of "leap year", include the textbooks about programming in china. the wrong code is used for getting "leap year"(before 1582). So, I spend some time to study this question, and wrote the code which let more people know "leap year". can you allow the code is added to the context of "leap year".
It's my first commit in Wiki. :)
   Best Regards
   Jerry.Liu, Beijing, China

   PS:
I have add python code to bake of baidu. let more people knows the history of "leap year". My English is poor, maybe you can know what I said. hah.

Editing the wikipedia page Yisroel Belsky

Hey Dmacks, pleasure to meet.

I made some changes to a page titled Yisroel Belsky, because I thought they were zeroing in unduly on an involvement he had with a sexual abuse controversy. In my very first edit on this great Misplaced Pages, i seem to have gone too far. I received a message that my meddling had been labelled as disruptive editing, so here i am now, reaching out to you.

Can we air our views and try to find some type of understanding?

Looking forward,

           Cpjwiki (talk) 20:59, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
Sounds like a good thing to discuss on Talk:Yisroel Belsky. It relates to the article, so best to centralize the discussion in a place closely tied to it so everyone can find it. If you go there, you can see that the topic has already been discussed recently. DMacks (talk) 05:07, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

Re: Message

Hello. You've undone a few of my edits to the Czech Republic page. This is understandable, considering that they would've been wrong just last week. But on May 2nd, the Czech Republic officially adopted the shorthand name "Czechia," and I was hoping to change the Misplaced Pages page to reflect this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Immensepieguy (talkcontribs) 22:03, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hello Immensepieguy. There is extensive discussion of this issue on the article's talk page. The bottom line is that Misplaced Pages uses the common name for an article, and Czechia is not yet the common English name for the Czech Republic.--Mojo Hand (talk) 23:03, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
Yes, exactly as User:Mojo Hand said. DMacks (talk) 00:51, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

Tech News: 2016-19

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

  • Wikiversities now have better access to Wikidata. They can use data from any page on Wikidata on any page on Wikiversity. This happened on May 3.
  • You can use Misplaced Pages GapFinder to find missing articles between languages.
  • Users are invited to try Cross-wiki Notifications on all wikis. This is the last test session before the release by default, scheduled for May 12th at 23:00 UTC.
  • You can use keyboard shortcuts to open the visual editor (meta+V) or the wikitext editor (meta+E) (on certain wikis, even if you have chosen a favorite editor).
  • Uploading files bigger than 100 megabytes on Wikimedia Commons required to opt-in in your preferences. This is not necessary anymore.
  • The UploadsLink extension is now available on Wikimedia Commons.
  • Deleting a translation unit page didn't remove the corresponding content from the translation page. This is now solved.
  • Translation suggestions based on Apertium are now available on Mediawiki.org.

Problems

  • MediaWiki 1.27.0-wmf.23 has been rolled back from Wikimedia wikis, due to a performance issue.

Changes this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from May 10. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from May 11. It will be on all wikis from May 12 (calendar).

Meetings

Future changes

  • Today, in categories, a page titled "11" comes before "2". We plan to reorder that: "2" will come before "11". Please tell the developers if the change will cause problems.

Carbon Dioxide revision

Hello. I believe you make a mistake in reverting my edit(s). The phrase I removed in the lead was worded in a way consistent with it being a proven fact, however; it is an opinion. It's not even a hypothesis, as there is no falsifiable null hypothesis. It cannot be proven as a fact within any sensible time period. The wording should be consistent with it being an opinion, not presented as if it were proven fact, even if it is a majority opinion. There are many actual facts regarding Carbon Dioxide. Since that topic is covered in detail in the article body, does the page lead even need to include an opinion? As for the citation needed tag that you remarked was pretty basic science; you missed the point: anything can be killed with high enough environmental levels of anything. That is pretty basic science. Should all articles about all substances have such statements? Obviously not. Therefore; an unqualified article statement to that effect is just inane unless there's a citation that demonstrates what constitutes minimal sufficiently high enough levels, for which pests, and how much time of exposure is required at said minimal levels. 173.174.80.138 (talk) 12:25, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 16

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Frost diagram, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Free energy (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Tech News: 2016-20

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

  • Some image thumbnails now load faster on mobile. They also take up less bandwidth.

Problems

  • Last week's MediaWiki version was late on some wikis.

Changes this week

  • Special:Notifications will have "mark as read" buttons for each day. The non-JavaScript version will get it this week. A JavaScript version will come later.
  • Wikis can now locally decide what wikitext they want the signature button to produce.
  • A one-time welcome message for users will now be shown in the wikitext editor. This will include existing users.
  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from May 17. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from May 18. It will be on all wikis from May 19 (calendar).

Meetings

Future changes

  • Using self-closing tags like <div/> and <span/> to mean <div></div> and <span></span> will not work in the future. Templates and pages that use these tags should be fixed. When Phabricator ticket T134423 is fixed these tags will parse as <div> and <span> instead. This is normal in HTML5.
