Reba, the poacher who managed to survive the battles with the crocodiles in the store in the third film, is now an EPA agent who attempts to exterminate the crocodiles in Black Lake. The lake has been corralled by the Army Corps of Engineers with a 10,000-volt electric barrier to lock the crocodiles in the lake to let them starve and die off. Reba and her group are scheduled to get inside the lake to capture young crocodiles for examination. However, they soon discover that the crocodiles have survived by cannibalism, which makes them continue breeding and increase their strength and aggressiveness. The problems become more serious when a group of students of Marshfield Swimming Team and an illegal group of hunters led by Jim Bickerman, who want to find crocodile eggs, decide to trespass. Afterward, they all have to continue fighting the giant killer crocodiles until the group can escape the barrier.
EPA Agent Reba, with Dennis and Sheriff Theresa Giove, venture Black Lake and neutralize an infant crocodile with a tranquilizer. They meet Ryan Loffin on land and drive towards a ten-thousand volt fence operated by Ryan’s son, Max. Theresa assigns her daughter, Chloe to join the Marshfield High School Swim Team since she has a strict schedule to dwell with the crocodiles. A town hall meeting turns into a protest, speculating that the tour for the Swim Team could be too dangerous because of the crocodiles. A hunting team led by Jim Bickerman attempts to kill the crocodiles until one man is chased away and electrocuted to death by the electric fence.

Chloe with Barbara, Coroner, Tina, Elaine, Brittany, Drew, Gus, Sharkley, and Coach Macklin, ride a tour bus, which mistakenly goes through the electric fence towards the lake and the swim team spends the night there having various conversations. Dennis is searching the woods for something and is attacked alive by a crocodile. Gus uses the lake as a bathroom spying on two girls, and is killed by a crocodile. The next morning, with the police officials on alert, the swim team decides to ride the lake with jet skis while Coroner, Elaine, and Sharkley are killed by crocodiles in the process. Nearly all the students make it safely inside the bus before further attacks. Chloe, who wandered off in the woods, meets Max dozing off on a log cabin.
During the process, most people are killed, including a member of Reba's group who came inside the barrier to investigate. At the end, the group seems to have completely exterminated the crocodiles, and Reba keeps a croc head for house decoration. But later, as Jim Bickerman wakes up after being punched out by Max's father Ryan, he is devoured by one last crocodile. As the camera focuses on a jogging woman who is listening to a radio, she is attacked and devoured by the surviving crocodile right in front of the Clear Lake signboard, which means that the crocodiles will still roam the lake.

Reba’s team finds a skeletal part from a crocodile carcass and the blood remains on the bus while the swim team continues to run through the wilderness of the woods until finding an abandoned camp and a smaller crocodile. The group flees but separates and Tiffany steps into a trap on a rope, hanging her onto a tree, and her head is severed by the crocodile, killing her. Chloe falls into a hole, trapped and forced to deal with a crocodile. Max distracts the crocodile with a rock and Chloe subdues it by hitting it with a gun. Reba’s crew finds the injured Dennis while the Chloe retrieves her cell phone from the crocodile’s mouth. Max dispatches rope to pull Chloe out of the trap until the crocodile awakens.

Reba’s group makes it safely to land but Dennis is killed by a crocodile. The remaining swim team encounters Jim, who forcefully encourages the kids to board his boat. Coach Macklin stays on land and is killed by a crocodile. The swim team speculates that Jim tricked them and are taken hostage. They make it back to land and seek shelter in a cabin. Jim then finds a nest of eggs by the shoreline.

Reba’s team finds Tina by the electric fence while Jim steals the eggs from the nest and stows them away in his satchel. The students find one room of the cabin full of flesh and blood and Barbara is attacked by the crocodile in it. Chloe and others kill the crocodile while Barbara still survives with injuries. They reunite with Reba’s team while Reba accuses Jim of his actions. Jim takes Max hostage while a crocodile breaks free from its chains and takes a boat with it. Drew is devoured while the others retreat towards the electric fence. Theresa dodges a storming crocodile, causing it to crash into the fence and become electrocuted to death.

By next morning, Jim awakens and taunts the last crocodile. He tosses his satchel and is devoured. An ambulance arrives to support the survivors by the electric fence. Theresa and Ryan passionately kiss. In the end, a woman jogging through the woods thinks the lake is now croc free, but is killed by the last crocodile that still remains.

Lake Placid: The Final Chapter (also known as Lake Placid 4 or Lake Placid 4: The Final Chapter) is a 2012 made-for-television horror comedy film. It is a sequel to the 2010 film Lake Placid 3 and the fourth installment in the Lake Placid series. The film premiered on September 29, 2012 by Syfy and was released on DVD on February 19, 2013. As the title suggests, it was intended to be the final installment in the series. However, in 2015, it was followed by Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, which was released as a crossover film with the Anaconda franchise.

Critical response

The film receives generally mixed reviews, mostly due to its uses of unrealistic, low-budget CGI (just like the two predecessors) and an open ending that is conflicting with its name.

However, Lake Placid: The Final Chapter has been stated to be much better than both of its predecessors. It received positive reviews from some critics who praise its plot and character development. One of the critics David E. Kelley, the writer of the original film, who gave the film 4.5 out of 5 stars, says, "Is this the last one really? The ending doesn't make me think so. I am glad to see Robert Englund in this and some of the cast from the previous movie! The effects are still lame as second and third, but the story is good". Another critic, Marcie Frank said she was totally into it and couldn't change the channel. Scott Weinberg from FEARnet, who gave the film a review "Rotten", said "I've seen a lot worse "crocs run wild" movies than Lake Placid 4".
