Disambiguation link notification for May 2

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Getting around Internet censorship in Turkey

Hi, I'm being falsely accused of making lots of anonymous IP posts from many cities all over Turkey. The clerk administrator who now says I'm guilty claims I used Hola (VPN) or similar to do it. Do you know if Hola can be used in Turkey to change one's IP address and chose a Turkish Telecom IP address in, for example, Izmir, when one is actually connected in Istanbul, or even connected in London? I thought that the level of internet censorship in Turkey now made this sort of thing impossible. I'm asking you because I've seen from your posts that you are no great fan of Erdogan, and so probably know something of the online restrictions and censorship he has imposed in Turkey and maybe know about how to get around them. Even if you say it is possible and so can't help my case here, I'm still interested because when in Turkey I've been blocked from visiting sites and I'd love to know if there was a way around such blocks. Information icon Hello, I'm Iryna Harpy. Misplaced Pages is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Donetsk People's Republic seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Iryna Harpy (talk) 10:18, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Lillyhammer

If there are conflicting reports (or no reports) as to when this series last aired or will air, remove the value of the last_aired parameter from the infobox, rather than replacing the current value with "unclear". "Unclear" means it is unclear to you, but you are then speaking in your voice rather than the voice of the encyclopedia. Nothing is "unclear" to the encyclopedia; it is either known or unknown, and it may be quite clear to someone else or will become clear with further research. Dwpaul 16:58, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Things can be 'unclear' for sure there are lots of examples for it (Iran–Iraq War for example), it says stalemate in there but there is no actual proof about the outcome. And i have put a reference to back it up. kazekagetr 17:02, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
The same advice applies even if it is "unclear" to the producers of the show when it will last be aired. It will eventually become clear to them as well. If you wish to mention that the date of the final airing is unknown or in dispute in the body of the article (with a citation), go right ahead, but the field in the infobox is not an appropriate place to describe this uncertainty (in fact, by design, everything in an infobox should be quite certain). Dwpaul 17:04, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
If there is "no end date officially", all the more reason that there should be nothing in the last_aired field, not "unclear". We don't put "unclear" in any other show's last_aired field unless and until a date is announced, even though all of them will eventually end. Dwpaul 17:06, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Russo-Georgian War

The Turkish Army neither did fight alongside the Georgians against Russia, nor did supply weapons during armed hostilities. The purchase of weapons does not warrant inclusion of the country of origin of weapons as combatant. If WP lists every country from which armament is bought by the warring party as combatant, then Israel, Ukraine and the Czech Republic would be listed too. Two of the Turkish-language sources are blogs and therefore not reliable. Not one of the sources indicate that the armament was provided in 7-12 August period. Now please revert your edit, since nobody wants to get involved in edit warring and that article has caused enough trouble. --UA Victory (talk) 15:46, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Treate of Lausanne does not mention ethnicities by name

Hello, please do not revert the correction to the wikipedia article Turkey on the matter of ethnicities covered by the Treaty of Lausanne. The suggested correction is not about adding detail, it's about clearing misinformation. If unsatisfied, re-word the passage as you see fit. You may refer to the Turkish wikipedia page https://tr.wikipedia.org/Lozan_Antla%C5%9Fmas%C4%B1 to see that there is no mention of Armenians, Greeks or Jews by name as recognized minorities in the text of the Treaty. The full text is available in online archives in English/French/Turkish and a simple search will show this very fact. You may further refer to the following article in Turkish drawn from the publication of Prof. Dr. Baskin Oran (Türkiye'de Azınlıklar): http://t24.com.tr/haber/lozanin-azinliklar-politikasi-neydi-bugun-neredeyiz,235318. Currently reverted version of Turkey is misleading as it stands.

@Ozan Yarman please do your research carefully, check here for example. kazekagetr 10:28, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

@KazekageTR Excuse me, but it is you who should be more mindful of the sources you cite. The link you gave says exactly what I've been trying to warn you about (Governance):

The status of minorities in Turkey is established by the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, which defines minorities on the basis of religion. It envisions full citizenship rights for non-Muslims and lays on the Turkish government affirmative obligations. The Treaty establishes the supremacy of its provisions in the Turkish legal system. Although Lausanne grants minority status to all non- Muslims, in practice, Turkey has restricted the scope of the Treaty to Armenians, Jews and Rums. This has unlawfully left other non-Muslims, such as Assyrians, Bahais, Georgians, Maronite Christians, Protestants and Ezidis outside the protection of the Treaty.

Ozan Yarman (talk) 14:44, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

@Ozan Yarman oh i was thinking that you were saying 'lausanne didint gave any rights to any non-muslim', sorry mate my mistake i misunderstood you. kazekagetr 09:09, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:MKEK MPT-76.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:MKEK MPT-76.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Misplaced Pages. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 20:57, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Thanks for uploading File:Seal of the Turkish Armed Forces.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:49, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
