Kevin Earl Federline, (born March 21, 1978, in Fresno, California), is an American dancer and aspiring rapper, most noted for being married to pop icon Britney Spears.

Career

Early on, Federline worked as a backup dancer for Christina Milian, Justin Timberlake, P!nk, Michael Jackson, and the band LFO, future wife Britney Spears' opening act. Federline would later co-star with Spears on the short-lived 2005 reality television show, Britney and Kevin: Chaotic, which consisted of home videos shot by the couple. He also appeared in the 2004 movie, You Got Served. Federline has garnered the nickname "K-Fed" in the media and in the gossip blogosphere, although he has expressed disdain for the moniker.

Federline's first studio album, Playing with Fire, is expected in October 2006, Federline and his representative, Marylin Lopez, confirmed. A minute-long clip from the track "Y'all Ain't Ready" circulated on the Internet in November 2005 to parody and ridicule. Federline released his first single, "PopoZão," on New Year's Day, 2006, which was met with similar reception. The song is a re-imagining of a Brazilian dance track, whose title, "PopoZão," is Brazilian slang, roughly translated as "big or nice ass."

In the spring of 2006, a Freestyle was released on Federline's official MySpace page. A stir was raised when it was revealed that Federline had used an uncleared sample from Thomas Dolby which had been used previously, and legally, by Mobb Deep. Federline also released a clip of an upcoming single called "Snap" and "America's Most Hated". He confirmed in March 2006 that he will perform a promotional club tour in major cities such as New York City and Los Angeles. Federline reported that he will not be performing on the tour but rather he will be observing fans' reactions to tracks played by a DJ.

"America's Most Hated" features a lyrical style that is a great departure from what can be heard in "PopoZão." According to the New York Daily News, West Coast rapper William "Ya Boy" Crawford has claimed authorial credits for the song, as well as K-Fed's "F*ck the Media" (he has made a point to distance himself from "PopoZão"). Ya Boy's website features links to photographs of himself and Kevin Federlilne as printed in Star Magazine. As of August 2006, Ya Boy remains one of Kevin Federline's top eight Myspace friends. In the cultures of rap and hip-hop, it is generally seen as disingenuous to employ ghostwriters or to attain notoriety with lyrics penned by other artists.

Federline has been signed to model for the Five Star Vintage line by the San Francisco-based Blue Marlin clothing company. The initial series of ads is set to run in September 2006. The target age group for the line is between 16 and 28, and Macy's, Lord & Taylor and the Virgin Megastores will sell the "edgy" look, according to a spokesman. When asked if Federline's role was permanent, he said, "We have to see how this first ad campaign goes." Kevin Federline was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Male Red Carpet Fashion Icon.

After being introduced by his bloated wife (who was eight-months pregnant at the time) Federline performed his first "official" single titled "Lose Control" as the final act of the 2006 Teen Choice Awards on August 20th. Kevin will release his album, "Playing With Fire" on his own record label "Federation Records". On August 24, 2006, Federline spoke to Ryan Seacrest at On Air with Ryan Seacrest. When asked about his performance, Federline said, "I think it went pretty well for a first-time performance...it only gets better... with time, I'm sure people will see a drastic change with what's happening."

In an interview in late July 2006 with In Touch Weekly Kevin confirmed he plans to start acting and has already been offered roles.

Personal life

Kevin Federline is noted for his marriage to pop music performer Britney Spears. Federline was previously involved in a relationship with actress Shar Jackson, with whom he has two children. Their daughter, Kori, was born on July 31, 2002, and their son, Kaleb, was born on July 20, 2004.

While Federline and Jackson were awaiting the birth of their second child, Federline met Spears, at a Hollywood club called Joseph's in April 2004. Following this, Spears told People,

We stayed with each other for a week. I was supposed to get on a plane to go on tour. I told my mom I didn't want to go on tour. I was like, "I want to stay in L.A." At the time, I didn't think he'd come with me because we'd just met. Then I was supposed to get on a plane. Then I canceled my flight. I turned the car around, called Kevin and said, "Where are you at?" The next week I was like, "Kevin, get your passport and come out with me."

After Spears invited him on the European leg of her The Onyx Hotel Tour, they spent a little over a month abroad, and she proposed to him on the plane ride back to New York, from Ireland. Federline initially said no. He told People that, "It wasn't like a "Will you marry me?" It wasn't that straightforward. The way she said it was kind of beating around the bush. Still, I was taken by surprise. I thought the guy was supposed to ask the girl. So a couple of minutes went by and then I asked her."

On the night of September 18, 2004, two months after his second child was born to Jackson, Federline and Spears held a surprise wedding ceremony at a private home in Studio City, California. Although not legally binding, this "faux wedding" allowed the couple to finalize legal details of their marriage without the deadline of an upcoming ceremony. Such details were reported by The Smoking Gun website to have been the legal minutia of a prenuptial agreement, although the terms of this agreement have been disputed in the tabloid press and the Internet, and no evidence of the existence of such documents has emerged.

Spears announced her pregnancy in April 2005. Their son, Sean Preston Federline, was born on September 14, 2005, in the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California by a scheduled caesarean section. In May 2006, Spears announced that they are expecting their second child, due in September.

Regarding Federline and Spears' relationship, Shar Jackson has stated, "it wasn't like just breaking up a relationship. It was like breaking up a family." Federline told People, "by the time I met Britney, that relationship was already done."

Federline owns a Ferrari 360 Spider that was given to him by Spears. The car's brake calipers were repainted to read "Federline" instead of "Ferrari."

Federline has been the subject of ridicule on television and on the World Wide Web by the likes of late night talk show hosts Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno, and E! cable channel's The Soup. On the sketch comedy television series Saturday Night Live, host Ashton Kutcher was featured in a commercial parody as Federline for "Federline Briefs" – tight brief-style underwear with the tagline, "Man panties for wiggers." In the parody, Kutcher repeats the line "Federline, yo" several times. Kutcher then says, "I look like I might stink, yo," and after assessing his personal odor, continues, "but I don't."

In an episode of the animated series Family Guy, a fantasy sequence features Federline asking a magic mirror how he can "look like a douchebag today." The mirror (Peter Griffin) tells him to not shave, shower, or change clothing, and to "walk around with an undeserved sense of accomplishment." The website Fark.com has repeatedly referred to Federline and Spears as Cletus and Brandine Spuckler, the "slack-jawed yokels" from The Simpsons. A sound-alike known as "Kevin Feder-leezy" (played by Psycho-Mike of the Kevin and Bean show) occasionally appears on Los Angeles radio in mockery of Federline. Rich Cronin, of LFO, commented while on the KiddChris show that when Federline was a backup dancer for his group, he earned the nickname "dirt cat," due to his appearance and lack of hygiene.

Federline' performance on the Teen Choice Awards was widely panned by the hip hop community, as echoed by Elliot Wilson, chief editor of XXL Magazine: "I just think we ignore him. He's a joke, basically. ... I just don't think he gets it. He doesn't get that he's Britney's man and it's hard to take him seriously."

Federline has also become notorious in the media for his heavy smoking, and was criticized for continuing to do so around his pregnant wife. He is often photographed with a cigarette in hand.

He was heavily criticized for his appearance with Britney Spears in 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, which their skit was confusing and no audience response.
