Sculpture or monument

Does anybody where is this monument or sculpture located in? The scene of this video is at 11:15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXJ20H0iTIU Donmust90 (talk) 02:20, 11 September 2016 (UTC)Donmust90Donmust90 (talk) 02:20, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Are you sure? I don't see any statue around 11:15..--Jayron32 04:01, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
I see a grey concrete object. I can't tell what it is. -- Jack of Oz 05:27, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
According to IMDb, the episode was filmed at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute in Toronto. This might assist in tracking down the sculpture. Tevildo (talk) 10:56, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
The IMDb page says, "Save for the school track scenes which were filmed at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, all of the running sequences in this episode were shot at various locations throughout Toronto's High Park." Since in the scene the boys are running cross-country rather than on a track, a location in High Park seems likely. Deor (talk) 13:37, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
It seems very odd being as isolated as it is. Perhaps it is a remnant of something functional. Perhaps it held a large sign or an array of lights or a scoreboard. Perhaps there is a playing field beyond the fence that stands behind it. Bus stop (talk) 03:03, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

At about the time of the first Mission: Impossible movie, someone recorded a longer, more elaborate version of Lalo Schifrin's theme; it got some play on VH1 at least. Who was that? —Tamfang (talk) 07:03, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Do you mean the 1996 Adam Clayton & Larry Mullen Jr. version? Here's a clip. It was used for the film too, however. It's also mentioned in the article on Theme from Mission: Impossible. ---Sluzzelin talk 08:09, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
I suppose that must be it, though I ought to have remembered that it stretched the five-beat to eight! —Tamfang (talk) 08:36, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
Well, they do just that after about 19 seconds of quintuple meter. ---Sluzzelin talk 09:43, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
And I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't remember that. —Tamfang (talk) 07:31, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I think I read "though I ought" as "thought" or something. ---Sluzzelin talk 09:59, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Some dual role movies as Father & Son - Hollywood?

Friends please name some hollywood movies that has dual role by same actor as father and son. Not like the same character disguising for a scene (like mrs. doubtfire) but rather played by same actor as father and son or mother and daughter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.83.51.177 (talk) 10:54, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

In Back to the Future Part II, Michael J. Fox plays Marty McFly, Marty McFly Jr (his son), and Marlene McFly (his daughter).
In The Nutty Professor (1996 film), Eddie Murphy plays the main character Sherman, and also plays as each one of: his father, his mother, his grandmother, and his brother. Staecker (talk) 17:53, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
The question you have asked is likely to be a subset of List of actors who have played multiple roles in the same film. --Jayron32 00:04, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
In a short-lived TV series called The Second Hundred Years, Monte Markham played his own grandson. ←Baseball Bugs carrots00:24, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
Not Hollywood, but Alec Guinness's roles in Kind Hearts and Coronets include a father and son: "young" Ascoyne (the first victim) and his father Lord Ascoyne d'Ascoyne (the Banker). —Tamfang (talk) 08:40, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Downloading sheet music

I want to create a library of favorite classical piano music pieces. I want it in a digital form that I can print then on sheets of paper with a printer. What would be a safe website? I found one but they send you emails with attachments which turned me off. Safety is paramount for me. Thanks, - --AboutFace 22 (talk) 14:32, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

This site offers free downloads of non-copyright sheet music - it might be what you are looking for. https://musopen.org/sheetmusic/ Wymspen (talk) 18:18, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
I'm wondering why you are concerned about email attachments, but you're ok with downloading files from a web site. Perhaps I am not understanding your concern about email? CodeTalker (talk) 20:10, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Also try IMSLP. Not everything they have is copyright-free world-wide, but much of it is. I use it frequently. -- Jack of Oz 22:02, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Thank you much. I am not necessarily after free downloads but I want reputable and safe. How about www.8notes.com? --AboutFace 22 (talk) 00:24, 12 September 2016 (UTC) @CodeTalker, everyone says that email attachments are a vehicle for bringing spyware into your computer. Downloading pdf files is not. --AboutFace 22 (talk) 00:26, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Sorry to disappoint you, but unknown PDF files can be just as dangerous as email attachments. The trick to staying safe online would seem to me to be more about making sure that your PC has an up-to-date anti-virus, and educating yourself on how to determine whether a source can be trusted, than about avoiding a particular vector. - Cucumber Mike (talk) 06:51, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Note an email attachment could simply be a PDF. While no file type can be said to be truly safe, I'd actually trust a text file from a highly questionable source much more than I would a PDF from a somewhat trustworthy source. After all there are lots of ways I can view the txt file and while there is some minor risk of OS flaws meaning many programs could be affected it's difficult to say the risk is definitely more than the PDF where the provider could have unwittingly become an agent for infection with some zero-day flaw and while there are a few fair PDF viewers it still tiny compared to the ways you could view the text file. And the complexity of the format means there are many avenues for attack and a higher chance of library or OS flaws.

Of course intrisic in this is another key thing, actually knowing what format your file is and how it's going to be opened. Again this doesn't this apply to email attachments, if you're the sort of person who'd open an exe email attachment thinking it's a PDF or txt file, you could easily be the sort of person who'd open a downloaded exe thinking it's a PDF or txt file.

I know next to nothing about the sites mentioned above, but it isn't that uncommon for sites to be connected to questionable advertisers. (In fact, email actually has an advantage here in that many email providers reject exes outright although they may accept exes in archives. There are some attempts to warn about exe downloads with browsers and at the OS level, but most ISPs aren't going to stop you downloading one even if you simply use unencrypted HTTP so they could monitor it.)

Thank you all for education. My question is about www.8notes.com. Anybody knows anything about it? Thanks, - --AboutFace 22 (talk) 12:17, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, It is very interesting and helpful. --AboutFace 22 (talk) 22:15, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Tune ID

As WatZatSong is out of service again... Could someone help in identifying this? The song's refrain is quite similar to "And The Beat Goes On" and generally similar to "Miami", but has female vocals. The refrain lyrics almost certainly had "people... goes on", but I don't see it among renditions of "And The Beat Goes On". The song is from the 80s-90s, certainly no later than the 90s. Had to resort to play piano tune. Brandmeister 19:55, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Information on famous one-legged trick cyclist?

Hi people. About 10 years back I asked here whether anyone had any information on a Charles G. Kilpatrick, a one-legged trick cyclist who was internationally famous in the early 20th century. To show that I am nothing if not tenacious, I'm still looking. What I would love is an obituary on Kilpatrick, who I think died on 30 September 1927, that comes from behind a paywall, as I am confident I've found everything freely available on Kilpatrick.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated: note that Charles Kilpatrick (athlete) is a different person, who had one more leg than the Charles Kilpatrick I am researching. Thanks! --Roisterer (talk) 09:54, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Typing "one legged cyclist kilpatrick" into Google was rather fruitful. These were the first four book results: . Maybe following this strand you can find more. --Jayron32 12:45, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks but already found them. As mentioned, I'm confident I've found everything freely available on the net on Kilpatrick. Surely though there's got to be an obit somewhere behind a paywall ... --Roisterer (talk) 14:02, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
On ancestry.com, a pay site, I'm seeing this from the Illinois deaths list:
Name: Charles G. Kilpatrick
Father: James D. Kilpatrick
Mother: Mary E. Cole
Birth: 11 Sep 1869 - Danville, Vermilion, Illinois
Death: 30 Sep 1927 - Danville, Vermilion , Illinois
Occupation: Insurance salesman
Does this mesh with what you know? ←Baseball Bugs carrots01:32, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
However, I also found this Charles G. Kilpatrick, complete with a circus poster depicting him riding a bicycle with his one good leg (the other being a stump above the knee). Parents are the same as above, so it must be the same guy with a birthdate discrepancy (not at all uncommon in that era):
Birth: 17 Aug 1867 - Danville, Vermilion, Illinois, USA
Death: 30 Sep 1927 - Danville, Vermilion, Illinois, USA
This one also has a minimalistic Findagrave entry.Baseball Bugs carrots01:41, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks: Yes, I've got 11 September 1869 - 30 September 1927 with Danville as place of birth and death, and while insurance salesman was by far the most boring job he ever had, he specialized in selling insurance to circus people and the like. It's odd that I find papers following his career up to almost his death but nothing resembling an obituary. --Roisterer (talk) 23:34, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
With a known death date and place, you might want to contact the Danville library and see if they have archives of their local newspapers. And given how long ago it was, you might be able to obtain a death certificate. I also recommend that you contact the cemetery and see if they have more details than what the Findagrave user posted. ←Baseball Bugs carrots23:53, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict)I've searched through the couple of newspaper archives I have access to and came up the same. Quite a few articles on him from the 1890s and 1900s but nothing past 1908. Maybe he used a different name later in life? You could also ask at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request. clpo13(talk) 00:01, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I've got a reference from an Australian newspaper in 1926 that refers to him as Charles Kilpatrick (he declared that in 1927 he was going to travel around the world "for the purpose of securing data for a special story"). Of course he died in the US in 1927 so presumably his health went down hill but, as mentioned, I can't find anything referring to illness or death. --Roisterer (talk) 00:15, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
If you're in Australia, that kind of precludes your paying a visit to Danville, IL. However, you could still try sending an email to the local library. They might be able to find something. ←Baseball Bugs carrots01:54, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
One can contact the library or historical society there and ask for a photocopy of the paperwork or other info, however. No harm comes from asking. --Jayron32 13:33, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

she's totally not a spy

What's this story? The protagonist is a young woman whose father was a spy, or the like, and taught her the tricks of the trade: how to shake a tail, find a bug, pick a lock. Though these skills are irrelevant to her chosen career, she is forced to apply them when she finds herself entangled in the plot, perhaps by helping someone in danger.

That's all I remember; can't even say whether it was a book, a movie, a webcomic ... —Tamfang (talk) 00:58, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Could be Hanna (film) Wymspen (talk) 14:38, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks but no, that's still deep in my Netflix queue. —Tamfang (talk) 08:20, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Song from the 1980's

Greetings my friends. I have been around here for eight years and not as active as I used to be, Regardless, I need help identifying a song someone shared with me last year. I gazed the video on youtube just enough that the basic feel got stuck in my head. Here we go. Certainly an 80's band, but not a huge hit song, at least not in the USA. Female lead singer, male band. It is a band, not a solo artist. I want to think they are Scottish, Irish or British. She has blonde hair, caucasian the video is set at night, a campfire. A bit of a US western theme. Mid tempo song, guitars are not loud. Not punk or hard rock, The drum beat is similar to Aerosmith "Walk This Way" but the song is absolutely nothing like that. A nice flowing love admiration type song, she twirls around Stevie Nicks style. The song is upbeat, a groove but not Motown. I consider my self a guru of music knowledge, so this is driving me insane that I cannot place it. Any help is deeply appreciated. ( it is not the Sundays, etc,) 1980's mid to late. Thanks and cheers 10draftsdeep (talk) 01:25, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

The Cranberries ? Irish band formed in 1989, female Caucasian singer, male band-mates. Modest success in the US. She alternates her hair between dark and blond.
Here's a video of one of their songs, Animal Instinct: , where she does have blond hair. That doesn't sound much like the video you described, but at least you can decide if that might be the right band. StuRat (talk) 03:29, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
I thought of Texas, but I don't think Sharleen was ever blonde. DuncanHill (talk) 01:03, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
The Darling Buds had a blonde female singer who liked to twirl around a lot. I don't know their videos well enough to comment on the rest but they're a possibility. The Primitives and Transvision Vamp were both blonde female-fronted too. Now and then T'Pau (band) looked a bit Western-y and, although their singer is redhead, she could look blonde in the right light.Keresaspa (talk) 02:46, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Searching for...a book

Honestly speaking I am not even sure if I should be asking this here : but is there a source anywhere on Net where I can get John Grisham's The Whistler ? Yeah, it's yet to be released. Jon Ascton  (talk) 01:13, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

You're right: you should not be asking. We don't give support to copyright violation. --Tagishsimon (talk) 01:15, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
If it's not released yet, it's not just copyright violation, it's outright theft. ←Baseball Bugs carrots01:53, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
Amazon has the release date as October 25th, you will just have to wait until then to purchase it from your local bookstore or from an online distributor. uhhlive (talk) 14:56, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Name of fantasy story

I'm trying to remember the name and author of a story I read at least 30 years ago. I think it was a short story but it might have been part of a novel. The protagonist acquired some magical device, a box I think, which he was trying to determine how to open. This required saying a magic spell of three syllables. Unable to think of any other approach, he started reciting all possible combinations of three syllables, alphabetically I think. He assumed this would take years, but when he finally hit on the correct first syllable, the box responded in some way (very poor security obviously), so he was able to stop searching for the first syllable and move on to the next one. Does this ring a bell with anyone? CodeTalker (talk) 20:43, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
