History

From 1848 to 1855, the head of government was titled "premierminister" (Prime Minister). In 1855, the title was changed to ”konseilspræsident” (Council President), then in 1918, the title was changed again to "Statsminister" (State Minister). The official date of the founding of the Prime Minister's office is January 1, 1914.

Executive power is exercised by his or her ministers, led by the Prime Minister, who is the head of the government. The responsibility of folketing is that of the cabinet, also they must have the support of the majority of that body.

Elections for the Folketing occur every four years, however, the Prime Minisiter has the power to dissolve the Folketing and force a new election.
