    WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:49, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Punjab articles have been selected for the Misplaced Pages 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Misplaced Pages articles selected by the Misplaced Pages 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Punjab articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Misplaced Pages talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Misplaced Pages talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Misplaced Pages for Schools to extend the reach of Misplaced Pages worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

    Why the Parentage?

    Hi,

Do any of the editors share my opinion that Punjab project should not have Parentage to India or Pakistan projects? If any, it should be to Indian sub-continent (if it exists), not these country projects. The countries are relatively new compared to the history of Punjab.

Assistance sought to improve an article

The original Young Malang film article was speedy deleted... perhaps without due consideration that otherwise tag-able concerns, including a sense of WP:PEACOCK, were addressable underWP:IMPROVE, WP:ATD andWP:WIP. It was most likely written by a newcomer who lacked understanding of how PEACOCK terms give an unsourced article a very bad reputation. It was then recreated in a much shorter version asYOUNG MALANG by another apparent newcomer and sent immediately to AFD. As the film's production has received significant coverage and the film is due to release on the 20th, I undeleted the original version and moved in into my userspace. I seek assistance in bringing the original into line for a return to mainspace. Who's up for helping improve it? Schmidt, 02:45, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

    Punjabi welcome

I ran into a situation today where a user was contributing an article in Punjabi; I don't think the user could read and write in English. I think the user was well-intentioned, but unaware of the pa Misplaced Pages or unaware of how to contribute to it. I did my best with a machine translation (after which the user stopped adding the Punjabi content), however it would be nice to have a non-English welcome message (and maybe warning templates) in Punjabi to help direct non-English users to the appropriate project. Anyone interested in taking on the challenge? --TeaDrinker (talk) 19:11, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

    Wiki Loves Pride 2014

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride 2014, a campaign to create and improve LGBT-related content at Misplaced Pages and its sister projects. The campaign will take place throughout the month of June, culminating with a multinational edit-a-thon on June 21. Meetups are being held in some cities, or you can participate remotely. All constructive edits are welcome in order to contribute to Misplaced Pages's mission of providing quality, accurate information. Articles within Category:LGBT in Asia may be of particular interest. You can also upload LGBT-related images by participating in Wikimedia Commons' LGBT-related photo challenge. You are encouraged to share the results of your work here. Happy editing! --Another Believer (Talk) 21:15, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Misplaced Pages struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

    RFC on Indo-Canadians in Vancouver

RFC at: Talk:Indo-Canadians#Merge_discussion: Should Indo-Canadians in British Columbia and Indo-Canadians in Greater Vancouver be separate or should the latter be merged into the former?

Another question: Would it count as WP:SYNTH to have a dedicated article on the Indo-Canadian population of Metro Vancouver? (Vancouver, Surrey, and other Vancouver suburbs) WhisperToMe (talk) 06:14, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

    WikiProject X is live!

    Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Misplaced Pages:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Book reviews of The Dynamics of InstitutionaI Change and RuraI Development in Punjab, India (1974)?

I went on a Japanese database and found:

It's a Japanese-language review of an English-language book about the Indian Punjab. I wanted to see if I could find other review articles about that book, but I was unsuccessful. Does anyone know of any more review articles about it? WhisperToMe (talk) 13:21, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

    Outline of Punjab

Outlines have been created and developed for the following states:

As of yet, there is no outline on this state. The Transhumanist 02:05, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

    Misplaced Pages:Punjabi wikipedians' notice board/members

@MichaelQSchmidt, FoCuSandLeArN, WhisperToMe, and The Transhumanist: bringing the above page, a clearly good faith effort, to your attention. It isn't linked to anything and I'm not sure that there's a good rationale to it. And of course there's the 'Administrators' bit. Not sure what that's about. @Peeta Singh:, what do you mean by "Administrators"? Doug Weller talk 13:44, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Huh? FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 14:01, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Dear Doug Weller, the Misplaced Pages:Punjabi wikipedians' notice board/members page is linked to Members. If other communities from other regions can have similar pages, for example: Canadians, Trinidad and Tobago people, Scottish, Sri Lankans, Indians, Pakistanis and so on, then why not the members interested in Punjab-related topics? I believe that with time, the page will serve great purpose and help connect the community for the improvement of Misplaced Pages. And of coarse, if there's an issue with the 'Administrators' section, then it can be removed. The idea of an 'Administrator' sections was copied from Misplaced Pages:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board/Members.
And don't worry, the 'Administrators' section wasn't added for myself.
Regards, Peeta Singh (talk) 14:29, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Hm, still don't see the point. It includes at least one blocked Administrator and doesn't include all the editors recently active on the talk page. And my point was that you can't get to your page from any part of this project. It should be a subpage. As far as 'Administrators' go, I can see the point of identify Admins at the list of members in case one is needed say for a page move, but not on a list of talk page members. Just to clarify, Misplaced Pages:Scottish Wikipedians' notice board/Members' archive is a 2007 archive, Misplaced Pages:Trinidad and Tobago Wikipedians' notice board/Participants is empty, your Sri Lanka link is an ordinary members link, nothing to do with the notice board, the Indians link is also a member link only, ditto Pakistan. Doug Weller talk 14:54, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
This looks like it could be a useful addition to the support structure for Punjabi articles. I see no harm in giving it a try. The Transhumanist 18:21, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

    Khanda

The Khanda is a symbol of the Sikh nation and Punjab, which represents the Punjabi and Sikh people and their homeland.

Salma Mahmoud, on what basis are you implying that the "Khanda is not the "emblem of the Punjab", that it *actually* insertion of WP:HOAX?

Filpro, on what basis is the Khanda just a religious symbols?
