Comparing my last version with your current version, it turns out that, as I expected, your claim that "important info was not copied", "you didn't copy all the information", "I had to put the information back manualy" was all a load of crap. On the contrary, you introduced a link to the '''2012''' Dolmans team on this '''2011''' teams page. Good grief... ] (]) 10:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

'Living people'

You put the category on the main space of new articles, please could you also back that up with minimally WP Biography|living=yes on the talk page at least, thanks JarrahTree 15:01, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Please note that in the past WP:BLP has been a serious issue, and any help in adding the requisite items is always appreciated JarrahTree 01:25, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

@JarrahTree:, it takes for me the same time to make the talk page then to make the page itself. The talk page is tagged automatically by a bot within a few days. With my limited WP time I prefer to create another page instead of adding tag on the talk page within the same time frame. If it's a serious issue, a boy could be created for it to do it :) Sander.v.Ginkel 09:07, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Tayler Sanders

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Tayler Sanders. First, thank you for your contribution; Misplaced Pages relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Tyler Sanders. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Misplaced Pages. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Tyler Sanders – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Misplaced Pages looks forward to your future contributions. Theo649 (talk) 19:27, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Maria Fernanda Alvarez Zapata

Hi. You created the redirect Maria Fernanda Alvarez Zapata which goes to María Álvarez. María Álvarez is a Paralympic track athlete not a weightlifter. There doesn't seem to be an article on weightlifter. Tassedethe (talk) 15:39, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

@Tassedethe:, yes I see.. That's an error. I created the page of the weightlifter and made a disamb page. Thanks!!! Sander.v.Ginkel 18:48, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Faitoga Togagae

Hello Sander.v.Ginkel,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Faitoga Togagae for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Xx236 (talk) 13:14, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Wow.

Moves like Kim Little Barnstar
As a recipient of the Kim Little barnstar, we'd like to thank you for make amazing Kim Little-like contributions to articles related to women's football (soccer) and WP:WOSO. Thank you for your diligent work!

@Hmlarson:, thanks a lot for this!! I saw the women's football players are under represented on Misplaced Pages. I started with the players at the world championships. But also the players who competed at other major international competitions are notable. So, it's just the beginning and will create many many more! Sander.v.Ginkel 07:53, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

You are awesome. Thanks very much. Hmlarson (talk) 15:37, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Fixing the bias of History
16% women on Misplaced Pages - We need to fix that and you are making a great contribution. You may have heard that the WiR wikiproject is a finalist for a UN-Women award - for this kind of work. Better research

Hi! You added a small batch of Norwegian female footballers. Perhaps you should not have claimed that these players still play football, seeing as they are verging on age 40. Geschichte (talk) 18:17, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

40 is the new 32 (see Christie Rampone). Keep up the great work. Hmlarson (talk) 23:57, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
What about 50? Your templated articles are not unwarranted, Ginkel, but include preposterous claims. If you do not reply or change your editing, a short-term block would be in order. Geschichte (talk) 13:21, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
I'd be more inclined to short-term block someone who wanders around issuing short-term block ultimata. The sentences would be better in the past tense, but given the choice between an complete absence and a minor issue, I'll take SvG's article anytime. --Tagishsimon (talk) 14:13, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
@Geschichte:, sorry I totally missed your message. I just see it now. I fixed it in my template so it won't happen again :), Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel 15:50, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Another, much more serious, issue is that a whole lot (more than 20 at least, probably closer to 30) of these BLP articles have no references at all that actually mention the people the articles are about. Practically speaking, they're unreferenced BLPs. Claiming that 65-year-old people are active footballers is a smaller issue that is fairly easily fixed. Manxruler (talk) 00:49, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Lucie Záleská v. Lucie Hochmann

Two of yours; Lucie Záleská v. Lucie Hochmann ... same person? Fancy merging them? thanks

Also - have not checked if they're yours, but probably... Elizabeth Newell versus Elizabeth Hernandez (cyclist).

Finally Marta Pavlisová versus Marta Kroutilová. If you fancy doing anything with these three pairs, that'd be great. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:35, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

@Tagishsimon:, Great you spot them! I created 3 of the 4 cycling articles and merged them now. I didn't create the canoeists but will take a look at it tomorrow!! Please tell me if you find more :). Cheers and great work, Sander.v.Ginkel 22:12, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
And good work yourself, SvG. Your duplicate rate is remarkably low considering the vast number of articles you create. They seem to end up at the bottom of the bucket of my work; I'll pass them to you as & when. I have one more dupe for your consideration (and forgive me for dumping them on you): Haïdy Aron v. Haydy Aron. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:18, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
@Tagishsimon: according to their names and the Spanish Misplaced Pages the canoeists are the same, so I merged them. But that means she became World Champion at the age of 13. Is that strange? And according to the Spanish page she would have medalled at European Championships at the age of 8. Is that possible? Sander.v.Ginkel 13:55, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
That sounds a little, how shall we say, precocious. I presume we're looking at a DoB failure somewhere along the line, or maybe a mother-daugher thing. I'll do some digging.... this suggests a DoB of 1914. --Tagishsimon (talk) 15:18, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Indefinite article (again)

G'day again, I have just fixed a few instances of "a Australian" in articles recently-created by your good self. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 02:04, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

@YSSYguy:, Thanks! I saw there was an error in the template I was using. It is fixed now :) Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel 15:51, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Cricketers and actresses

Thanks for starting this list. Browsing through the template at the foot of the article, I noticed the actressess list. I'm going to make a note of that and start work on that one. Lugnuts 19:56, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

That would be greatly appreciated, Lugnuts. At the last count there were 34,585 actress records on wikidata for which we have no wikipedia biography. I'm kinda hoping that SvG will run short of sportspeople soon and turn his cannons on these :). --Tagishsimon (talk) 20:31, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
@Tagishsimon: No problem. I was just having a quick browse of the missing women articles last night and was quite surprised to see how much is actually missing. There's def. a couple of areas that interest me, and I'll chip away at the red. Lugnuts 06:42, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Sander - I trust my edit summary for Kazimiera Utrata meets with the project's approval. Lugnuts 11:45, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
@Lugnuts: great work on the acressess and cricketers!! And yes, the edit summary looks good! Hopefully it will stimulate some people :). @Tagishsimon: I have to say, that there are so many missing sportspersons.. With data I have at the moment I won't be finished within the first few years.. Haha. Keep up the good work! Sander.v.Ginkel 07:27, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Sander.v.Ginkel. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator.

information Administrator note You have been grandfathered to this group based on prior patrolling activity - the technical flag for the group will be added to your account after the next software update. You do not need to apply at WP:PERM. 20:56, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Sam Henderson (weightlifter)

The article Sam Henderson (weightlifter) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Subject appears to fail guidelines for biographical articles, specifically WP:BASIC and WP:ATH. Although a Google search did yield some references to the subject, they did not meet the standard for in depth coverage by multiple independent reliable sources. Found coverage appears to be far to brief and in some cases trivial to establish the encyclopedic notability of the subject. That said I have added this to my watch list as it is entirely possible that Mr. Henderson may at some point rise to that level.

The article creator is encouraged to peruse the linked guidelines and if additional sources exist that may lend themselves to establishing encyclopedic notability, please add them.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Hi Sander.v.Ginkel. Thanks again for your work in generating stub articles on women's footballers. Do you know of a way to automate tagging their talk pages with the Women's football taskforce? e.g., {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes|class=stub}} Hmlarson (talk) 04:59, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

@Hmlarson: Yes that is possible. That is what I did with other articles. Will make Work of it, but that wont be today. Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel 10:02, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. Much appreciated. Hmlarson (talk) 17:07, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

FYI

Hi Sander, here are some more photos: . I read that you were born in Woerden. I was there once many years ago to make an interview with Arie van Vliet :) --Nicola (talk) 19:47, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

@Nicola: Yeah, great images!! Verry nice :). I started already tagging some yesterday, and linking the Commons categories to Misplaced Pages pages. Yes, that's right! I was born in Woerden, and now I'm living there again. You should come back for an interview with Ellen van Dijk or Floortje Mackaij :). Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel 22:47, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Now I loaded up some 15 photos, where I do not know the names, but I am researching :) Or may be you can help me?
I made this interview with Arie van Vliet for a historical book about cycling. Ellen and Floortje are not yet old enough :) But I wrote this: .
By the way: Except from cycling I write a lot of articles about the Netherlands during the occupation 1940-45. --Nicola (talk) 22:58, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola: A I see, nice you're wring historical books :)! Great you wrote the German article :D (I wrote most of the English one, but have to continue I say as it is a bit outdated). I will take a look at the images. Looks like Asian people ;) Sander.v.Ginkel 23:05, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola: I found a few with a bit of research. A question: this is Kang Shih Feng (sprint / keirin). If this is another person it's Chen Chien-Liang (Scratch, Points Race, Omnium), otherwise it's also Kang Shih Feng. Sander.v.Ginkel 23:24, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes, but I am not sure. I wrote some emails to some people.
Why did you not go to Apeldoorn? --Nicola (talk) 23:27, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola:Yes sorry.. I really wanted to go, but I didn't have time to go last weekend. A shame.. But I saw it all in Rio at the Olympics :). I just started creating pages of the medalists of the World Cup. However, every participant meets WP:NCYC, so if you want an article by certain images, let me know! Sander.v.Ginkel 23:45, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola:, I just started eight pages with your images :). Louis Pijourlet, Adrien Garel, Gerben Thijssen, Bayley Simpson, Mark Downey, Sultanmurat Miraliyev, Han Jun and Liu Lili. Good night, Sander.v.Ginkel 00:08, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi, I just saw that you added "Liu Xialing" to one photo, because there were 3 chinese females starting in Apeldoorn. But: I have at least photos of FOUR Chinese females there. It seems that they took some riders from Glasgow to there, but they did not start. May be there is also one more, and may be it is Ma Menglu. Anyway, "Liu Xiaoling" has dots in here face and she cannot be the more pretty one... I am still researching, but it is not easy.... --Nicola (talk) 07:59, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola: I thought that the entry list was always longer then the actual participants. Well as you showed.. It's not! Thanks for noticing :). And a question to you, a few months ago I uploaded some images of some Iranian cyclists. Do you maybe know some of them? See Commons:Category:2014 Iran national track cycling championships. Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel 11:33, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Well, I noticed in Apeldoorn that there were always a lot of riders hanging around in the box but did not seem to be participating :) And it was obvious they were bored. I already thought then that may be they were not allowed to stay in the hotel on their own? I do not know any Iranians, but will have a look. --Nicola (talk) 11:44, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

User group: New Page Reviewr

Hello Sander.v.Ginkel.

Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.

New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Just a minor thingy...

Could you please change the name of the source ""2016–17 UCI Track Cycling World Cup (Glasgow) Enty List Men" and ""2016–17 UCI Track Cycling World Cup (Glasgow) Enty List Women"? Enty should be Entry. By the way, that source does not cover the type of race... The Banner talk 19:17, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

@The Banner:, oww, yes, that's a typo. All 16 pages fixed now. The page is the entry list of that World Cup round. What is different from the other source is that it lists the date of birth of the person. Sander.v.Ginkel 19:25, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Then I assume that the UCI-code is someting like landcode-dob-nr.? The Banner talk 19:32, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it is :) Sander.v.Ginkel 19:32, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Charly Conord

Good morning, can you do me a favour, please? I am not really used to the English WP. Conords name is "Charlie", because he is French and not English. In Apeldoorn I asked him and he told me that "Charly" is wrong. --Nicola (talk) 09:06, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

@Nicola:, sure. However I also can't move it over a redirect, so I placed a 'requested move' (see WP:Requested moves/Technical requests). Sander.v.Ginkel 09:22, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Courtesy blanking

Please do not remove courtesy blanking from AFDs. It is only done when there are good reasons to do so, which may not be apparent to you from on-wiki discussions. Thanks. P.S. Your userpage looks like a WP:FAKEARTICLE. Could you please remove the lenghty content about your academic background per WP:USERBIO. SmartSE (talk) 13:29, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

@Smartse: But as is sould rare courtesy from Afds? In a list with the 3rd nominations the blanking was done without a reason >50% of the articles. While there are specific rules for, I removed some without a proper request. Why chaning my userpage? It is not a Misplaced Pages page, it's a userpage. Are there rules for? You can order my book if you want and you can all read about it The effect of exercise and ACE inhitibion on angiotensin II. PhD Thesis. May 2015 (UK edition) & April 2016 (NL edition). Literraly all the information of the Misplaced Pages page is pulished in it. It's even stated above the page This page is the user page of Sander van Ginkel and includes his short biography that is published in his PhD thesis named The effect of exercise and ACE inhibition on angiotensin II. Sander.v.Ginkel 14:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I can't understand your first question. If someone thought it necessary to blank an AFD it would have been for good reason and if you disagree, the first thing to do would be to ask the person who blanked it why they did it.
I'm aware that you userpage is not an article but it is styled in exactly the same way e.g. using {{infobox scientist}} which can lead to confusion and appears promotional. See WP:USERPAGE for the policy on what should and shouldn't be included on a userpage. Most simply, it is to write about yourself as a user here, not you as a person in the real world and at present it contains "excessive personal information unrelated to Misplaced Pages.". Whether it has been published in a book is immaterial. Can you please remove it? SmartSE (talk) 17:17, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
For the confusing I placed the banner on top of the page. I don't see that it is not allowed to use the infobox scientist. And I think the Information is not excessive, it is a short summary. Sander.v.Ginkel 08:37, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Sander.v.Ginkel,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 815 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Womens footballer from China; Asian Month Suggestion

Hi, since Misplaced Pages talk:Misplaced Pages Asian Month is semi-protected now, I post the following; you requested to put Asian characters romanized, and here they are. I'm not a native Chinese, but since Japanese share the same writing system (but we use traditional Chinese characters), I thought I could give you a hand.

It seems zh:中国国家女子足球队#中國女足23人名单: includes good number of those which I marked with $s.
I referred to that and found the traditional Chinese for a name. Copy/paste a name into the box and clicked the farthest left button under the box. Sometimes your search on the web hits the target since Taiwanese media (at times HongKong, too) uses traditional Chinese characters.

BTW, would you mind to test Google translate or Misplaced Pages translation, by copy/paste a name and see what they give output? Most of the following, I used Google translate; by copy/paste names into the left box (Google translate), it shows below the box in gray the pronunciation. Hope those below will help you.

China

Nation / Name / simplified character = romanized / traditional character / $ (zh:

Mirjam Overdam

No interwiki. Xx236 (talk) 12:47, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Template:Women in Red

I undid your change. I can't find it in me to like the parentheses around sprinters, and around the whole list, in your version. The logic of the existing version was to start with Sportswomen, as a kind of list header which coincidently is a list name, and then show all of the sports in alpha order. With no parentheses, and certainly not with two levels of nested parentheses. "All are sportswomen and Sprinters are Athletes" may well be the case, but "you've made the list ugly for no tangible gain" is as easy to argue :) --Tagishsimon (talk) 06:10, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Fram

As Fram (talk · contribs) is screening my edit history and post every he don't like, I made a seperate page. See User talk:Sander.v.Ginkel/Fram. Sander.v.Ginkel 10:56, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Which is your right. Hiding the notice that you posted a copyright violation on another page without bothering to reply doesn't make the problem go away of course. Edit warring to include wrong information on pages, or to reinstate posts by banned editors on my talk page, also isn't solved this way. Again, this isn't about "things I don't like", but about "things you are not allowed to do on Misplaced Pages". Fram (talk) 12:54, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I'll second this. I've read all that Fram has had to say to you and it has all been important advice. WP:BLP and WP:V aren't optional and the edit warring on Fram's talk page was vindicative and childish. Fram has taken the time to point out the problems with your edits and the sensible and mature thing would be to follow the advice and modify your editing, not have a tantrum and move the advice to a subpage. SmartSE (talk) 13:07, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
@Smartse: if you would have read everything, you would have seen I've improved a lot, including the points Fram was raising. Tell me what I should do more. Sander.v.Ginkel 13:15, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I was referring to your attitude towards Fram's advice rather than whether you had followed it or not. Until know I hadn't inspected many articles you had created myself, but looking at Sherly Jeudy which you created today I see exactly the same problems: no source for the date of birth, that she is a midfielder or that she plays for FC Indiana. Benedicte Hubbel also has the same problems (other than her position is cited). The solution is simple - cite where you obtained the information if it is a reliable source or else do not include it. I find the unsourced dates of birth particularly troublesome as this can have real world consequences. SmartSE (talk) 13:34, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
E.g. Sarah Melgire, which you created today. The date of birth (1 March 1995) is not sourced. Soccerway gives it as 20 August 1991. The date in your article may be right anyway, I don't know, but as it stands you added an unsourced, probably incorrect date of birth. Fram (talk) 14:13, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Might be another persons, or an error somewhere. See for instance here with 1 March 1995. Sander.v.Ginkel 14:27, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Another Sarah Melgire who played in the 2014 national team matches? Seems rather unlikely. Soccerdonna, certainly on that page, comes across as much less reliable, as it has no info on Melgire's career whatsoever. Anyway, it's these kind of things that make it necessary that you include a source from the start, so people at least can see where you got the date. Otherwise, in the event that someone checks the date, they will simply replace your unsourced date with the different soccerway date instead of showing the discrepancy between the sources. Fram (talk) 14:39, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Sherly Jeudy, already mentioned above: this one seems to have the wrong (or at least a dubious) date of birth as well. Fram (talk) 14:47, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

And Schmid Charles. That's 3 out of your last 6 article creations. Fram (talk) 14:51, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

The data came from women's national football team, but gives now an 404 error, so I couldn't use it in the article. You can still view it at some cache websites, including showing the club teams. Sander.v.Ginkel 14:55, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I hope you haven't been using that source for ages and countless articles, but only just now! Revolvy is a Misplaced Pages mirror, so the dates of birth you found there are the dates of birth from the Martinique women's national football team article here. Revolvy is not a reliable source and should never be used on Misplaced Pages. Fram (talk) 15:06, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I have data exported from that website (in January 2015), I didn't notice it was a mirror website. I see I have used info from that website for 5 pages I created, all today. Sander.v.Ginkel 15:21, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Oww.. yes, that's a bit difficult. I mostly created bunch of articles by sport and not by location. Possible help?

I read a posting between you and Ipigott on WiR about Estonians and am hoping one of you can help. Megalibrarygirl and I have an aviator, who did several firsts, but I can't figure out what her name should be in English. Some sources say she is Estonian, others Russian, and one says Latvian. Yes, I get that Estonia (and Latvia) was part of Russia at various times, but I don't know what to call her or how to spell her name. If she is Estonian, seems likely it would be Ljuba rather than the Russian Lyubov, but given how she wrote her last name, I tend to think we should disregard other spellings and go with what she wrote. Or am I crazy?

  • Ljuba Galantchikov Estonian?
  • Lyubov Golanchikova Russian?
  • Lyubov Golanchikova Russian? page 27
  • Lioubov Golantchikova Russian?
  • L. Galanschikoff looks to be her signature here: close up:
  • Ljuba Galanschikoff
  • Luba Galanschikoff Russian
  • Lioubov Galantchikova, Latvian

Russian Wiki just says Russian empire. The French article uses a Russo-French spelling. Help would be greatly appreciated. User:SusunW (talk) 02:23, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

@SusunW:, Hi and thanks for coming bye and raising the issue. I'm not an expert on Russian language but I had several times the same problem. Translating names in Russian to the Latin script can be done in several ways. Where in English is written a 'v' can also be written a 'w' like the Polish Misplaced Pages does. She might even have written it herself in more then one way... If you end up with a few names you can start the article with
Name also written as Name2, Name3 and Name4 was a Russian born(?) Estonian aviator.

(Or something like this). To make it even a bit more confusing, during the Cold War Russia was the Soviet Union. Maybe people at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Russia can help you better? Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel 08:49, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

@SusunW and Megalibrarygirl: Transliteration from Russian is always a problem as there are different systems for equivalents in the various European languages, generally based on pronounciation. For example Putin becomes Poutine in French. Family names ending in -ov sometimes remain invariable for women in English, especially for immigrants and children of immigrants born abroad, but generally become -ova for women. In this case, I would not include the Dutch or Latvian spellings. I would go for Lyubov Golanchikova as she was in fact born in St Petersburg although she flew in Riga. I think you may have misinterpreted the handwritten signature. It looks to me like Galantchikoff but that is no doubt the Latvian (or even German) phonetic equivalent of her name. The ending -off for Russian names is not common in English. (See here for modern transliteration conventions.) So why not go for Lyubov Golanchikova, also Ljuba Galantchikoff,... and include other variants as redirects if you wish. Wikidata already has Lyubov Golanchikova for English. I also see she emigrated to USA and was a taxi driver in New York City (where she died) which means there must be an official American spelling of her name. I'm pretty sure it's Lyubov Golanchikova. A fuller form seems to be Lyubov A. Golanchikova (The "A" stands for the patronym Alexandrovna which is used in Russian but not in English.) I'm sure your research has also revealed that as a teenager she was a Vaudeville singer and actress using the name Molly Moore (Russian Мили Море or Молли Мор). Hope this helps. I look forward to seeing the article and perhaps contributing a bit to it myself.--Ipigott (talk) 11:12, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@Sander.v.Ginkel and Ipigott: I found a ton of newspaper articles about her in the US press — Luba Phillips. LOL Those that give her maiden name call her Galanschikoff or Galanchikoff. , , , Obviously, I have enough stuff to write about her, if I could just decide what to call the article. I agree she was born in St. Petersburg and may well have been of Estonian or Latvian heritage, but I think we have no real proof of that. So, I shall do it with the Russian spelling. And yes, I would love your help Ian. No possible way I could read other than her name in that Dutch newspaper article and I am sure you have access to sources I don't. Megalibrarygirl, in the timeline, I'm gonna make it Lyubov Golanchikova. SusunW (talk) 14:06, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@SusunW: (Sorry for taking so much space on your page, SvG.) So after all that, she just ended up as plain Luba Phillips on her air club card or even L. Phillips on her taxi badge. But it should probably have been L. Phillipoff as her husband was Boris Phillipoff (but his name was probably changed to Phillips on Staten Island). Lots of interesting detail in the article on "The Flying Ballerina". Interesting too that she was a ballet dancer, not a Vaudeville singer. See also . Also some interesting details here including her working in a beauty parlour. Quite an exotic woman!--Ipigott (talk) 14:52, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
This Russian article clearly identifies her as a popular singer in Petersburg rather than a ballet dancer.--Ipigott (talk) 15:09, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Ipigott I have started her here. User:SusunW/Lyubov Golanchikova Please feel free to jump in. I too apologize for taking up so much space on your page SvG but do appreciate the help. She is fascinating. SusunW (talk) 15:46, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
SusunW Yes, really fascinating. I'll wait until you're in bed and return to it tomorrow morning my time.--Ipigott (talk) 17:09, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@SusunW: and @Ipigott: no problem at all! I just love these kind of conversations :). I would just say ask more, whatever you want :) Article is becoming great! Started reading of it. And yes, we do need more of these women on Misplaced Pages. Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel 23:13, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Misplaced Pages. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Misplaced Pages:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 December 3, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. The Banner talk 00:18, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Well I pointed to a contradiction in your nomination. I replied to it. Please see here. Sander.v.Ginkel 19:33, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Team templates

You are creating many cycling team templates, and many get nominated for deletion. You give as reasons "minimize storage space", which is not a valid reason (WMF policy is that we shouldn't worry about storage at all and that that shouldn't come into play when editing) and minimize maintenance. As has been said at the deletion discussions, how much maintenance do 2010 squads need? You say "collect source text used in several articles", but as far as I can see, these are only used on one page (e.g. List of 2010 UCI Women's Teams and riders), so you don't decrease maintenance or storage space and don't really collect anything, you just remove information from the article directly and put it into a template, making it harder for non-veteran editors to edit when needed (which like I said won't be often if ever). I see no benefit at the moment from all these templates. A disadvantage though is that a page like List of 2010 UCI Women's Teams and riders now has many more "edit" links and many unecessary and distracting "view" links inserted into it (and a needless repetition of things like "ages as of January 2010, which you could otherwise have stated only once).

Another disadvantage, as can be seen in that article, is that at the mopment you have the same link to with one description on 21 templates, and another description on 5 other templates. If the squads had been on the page instead of on a template, you would have had one named reference. Now you have to edit either 5 or 21 templates to give them all the same description, which means that your efforts have actually increased the maintenance needed, not decreased.

Please stop creating further such templates until it has been established that they really are beneficial. Fram (talk) 12:29, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

I'm still working on the templates. And well these kinds of templates are not new at all. So I think I should stop creating such templates until it has been established that they really are not beneficial. However, I prefer having this discussion in one place. Please leave your comment at WP:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 December 3#Template:GIW2014riders. Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel 13:14, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@The Banner:, please nominate in one nomination all of the templates, instead of every few hours a few. Or will I receive >250 of these kind of messages the upcoming days? Lot easier for both and the whole community :) Sander.v.Ginkel 22:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
It would be far better that you stop making those templates and await the faith of them instead of completely ignoring the ongoing discussions. Beside that, I only respond to the templates showing up at Templates with disambiguation links. So it is clear to see that you have created another three templates with links to disambiguation pages instead of proper links. Accuracy, Sir, accuracy! The Banner talk 22:45, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
By adding a huge amount of links, I don't check every link to see it's a disamb. link. A bot reports them to me so I can quickly repair them. Sander.v.Ginkel 09:30, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Just stop. This is yet another example of you being disruptive through carelessness. You add links and just hope that they are the correct ones? Really? And you then only correct those that get flagged by disambig bot, and don't bother to check the others? This, again, is really bad editing, but from your reply here seems to be your standard approach. Fram (talk) 09:43, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

List of 2011 UCI Women's Teams and riders

You have now undone improvements to List of 2011 UCI Women's Teams and riders twice times, each time reintroducing factual errors to the page. No matter if these templates are kept or not, no one is under any obligation to use them. Reverting to an inferior version because it is your version is WP:OWNing a page, which is not allowed. Stop. Fram (talk) 05:38, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Reverting because there is not yet a consensus. In your opinion it's an improvement. Like I stated on your talk page, it's common to wait to start such an edit before a consensus is reached. As an administrator you should know better. Factual errors, you mean probably the tiny errors that have already been fixed? Sander.v.Ginkel 08:14, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
When I reverted this morning, there were still "tiny" errors in it. When I state that you are "reintroducing factual errors", I don't mean things that you have fixed, but things you haven't fixed, obviously. And again, the consensus at the template discussions can force us to use my solution, but it can never force us not to use my solution. If the templates are kept, anyone can and may still substitute them in the articles and edit like I did. Fram (talk) 08:25, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm happy I could have learned you, by showing it, what LST is. Probably you understand it now better :) Sander.v.Ginkel 09:04, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Why are you reintroducing some templates in the article? I get the edits you made for LST, I get why the one template up for deletion is readded, but this seems pointless reverting for no actual benefit at all. Fram (talk) 09:36, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
The templates are used in several pages. When you copied content from the templates to the page, you didn't copy all the information and better references. As it took too much time to check them all I started linking them back to the templates so LST can be carried out with just a few clicks when I've done so. Sander.v.Ginkel 09:47, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
???Which information or reference was lost from e.g. Lotto-Honda Team? You changed the access date, that's it. Fram (talk) 09:56, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Maybe not from that one, but from other I did before I had to put the information back manualy. As I didn't want to do that for all the others, I started doing it this way. (This was also why I asked you several times not to do copy and paste the content.). Will link this first bunch with LST. Sander.v.Ginkel 10:08, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I did not copy-paste any content, I substituted the template, which means that everything gets included automatically. So, please indicate on which ones I hadn't copied all the information? Fram (talk) 10:10, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Comparing my last version with your current version, it turns out that, as I expected, your claim that "important info was not copied", "you didn't copy all the information", "I had to put the information back manualy" was all a load of crap. On the contrary, you introduced a link to the 2012 Dolmans team on this 2011 teams page. Good grief... Fram (talk) 10:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
