Rachel Corrie (? 1980 ? - March 16, 2003), an American college student, was a member of the pro-palestinian "International Solidarity Movement" protesting Israeli action in the Israel-Palestinian conflict. She was killed by an Israeli bulldozer in Rafah, Gaza, and was the first foreign protester to die in Israel in the past 29 months.
According to fellow ISM activists, Corrie was wearing a bright orange coat and had climbed onto the blade of the bulldozer to better shout at the driver through her loudspeaker. When she slipped off the blade she fell beneath the bulldozer and was dragged 10-15 meters. Later, as a group of people gathered, a man was shot and killed by the Israel Defence Forces.
This event was foreshadowed by another which Corrie wrote of in a February 14th email: " stood in the path of the bulldozer and were physically pushed with the shovel backwards, taking shelter in a house... the bulldozer then proceeded on its course, demolishing one side of the house with inside..."
Corrie was a senior at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
