In January 2017, Crunchyroll launched their first "Anime Awards", covering the best anime of 2016. Judges created a short list and the public voted in 14 different categories, between January 3-10, 2017. The results were announced on January 11, 2017, with the exception of the "Anime of the Year" prize, which is due to be announced on January 28, 2017. More than 1.8 million votes from around the world were submitted.
