Orange disk

The big orange disk, probably representing the rising sun of dawn, behind the Shaheed Minar (Dhaka)as seen in the Wiki picture was not part of the original Shaheed Minar nor any part of its creator sculptor Hamidur Rahman's design. It was added much much later by others, in the 1980s or 1990s I think. This addition is controversial, and is opposed by some. The critics consider it to be a distortion of the true spirit of this monument. Besides, the original Shaheed Minar was all white (signifying a state of mourning, I think) -- there were no colours or embellishments, as they are seen nowadays and in the picture (the orange disk and the colours take away the spirit of mourning and gives it a completely opposite air, in my opinion at least). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Monmajhi (talk • contribs)

The orange disk is a decoration added during special occasions, for example the 21st February Language movement day. True, it is not part of the original design. Nor is it a permanent fixture. We are not bound to show the Shaheed Minar without any festive decorations. Anyway, this was the *only* properly licensed image that could be found. No other image on the web could be added under Creative commons or GFDL. I personally mailed the photographer (Karl Roehl) to get permission to use this image. controversies about date

There is controversy about the date in which Shaheed Minar was first created.Some say it was built in the very first day of police firing that is February 21.But in his book "Bhasha Andoloner Itihash" Bashir Al Helal did not accept that and proved that day is actually February 23 when the first Shaheed Minar was built.His claim is acceptable because the main planner of first Shaheed Minar also suggested that date.The Daily Azad also published about Shaheed Minar on February 25 which also support that it was actually built on Februay 23 and NOT February 21. Rename to Kendriyo Shohid Minar

Spelling

Bangladesh is in the Coomonwealth, so so Commonwealth spelling should be used

Nope. WikiProject Bangladesh never adopted any guideline for spelling. So per MOS:ENGVAR we can use any style as long as there is a clear WP:ARTCON. -- nafSadh did say 15:35, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

– currently we have only two article with same name one in Shaheed Minar, Dhaka, one of the most important monument, indicating the spirit of Language Movement martyrs and symbol of International Mother Language Day. Another Shaheed Minar, Kolkata was entitled as the "Cloud kissing Monument", erected in 1828 in memory of Major-general Sir David Ochterlony , previously known as Ochterlony Monument, reanmed on August 1969 after a good century ,even not a common name and far less significant!!! No, target is a dab page. Someone has just moved it but that should be corrected. The Martyrs' Monument in Kolkata, West Bengal has been so known since 1969 and is so described in books. Move per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The most well known (Common) monument when called for as "Shaeed Minar" is in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Google search results of shaheed minar–Ayomoy (talk) 11:38, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello Ayomoy. Both monuments have the same name and both are very well known. The one in Kolkata is also very famous. When we say in Bangla, we always specify which one whether Dhaka or Kolkata.Kiwigravity (talk) 13:11, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

oppose each monument is important to people in their country. The Kolkata monument is very well known as Shaheed minar to Indians and the Dhaka one is important to Bangladeshi. People in both places speak the same language Bangla which uses the same name for both monument.
