Sorry, I'm new to this. Not wikipedia, but editing/contributing on it. The problem is that Solution-Soft has had a copyright on a software application, Time Machine, for a decade now. Apple may have a slight problem if they actually release their software under this name as it is somewhat similar in descriptions. Basically both allow applications to move forward in date or time. The original posting for the Apple "Time Machine" negatively affects SolutionSoft by causing confusion in the market place.

Steve Irwins death.

I want to tell Terri Irwin and the children, Bindi and Bob how sorry I am about his death. This has really hurt me deeply. He was "in my home" every chance I got to watch his show.
I will miss him so much.
I told my husband it should have been me instead, he had a passion for life that I have never found. I will regret his death always.
We are watching his show all day today.    I am so sorry.

Cronbot

Guess I missed this when it first came up, I've had a python script which obtains the tor list directly and can list out which ones are unblocked, guess I could have saved your some work. (Doesn't do the check for warnings though). One thing to be aware of is that there are several tor nodes which are on dynamic addresses and change address on regularly. In fact I've been capturing the data since 15th August, at time of writing 309 nodes are active but my database which is refreshed every hour and works out the IP address/node availability over time has 10106 entries on it... (That's not to say that they've used 10106 distinct IPs). I've also got scripts to use the tor control interface to allow selection of a single tor out proxy and then retrieve data through it, it needs some work but could be used to demonstrate that the IPs are in fact correct --pgk 19:45, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't know there was anything that already did that here (and it would seem the OP project members I've talked with didn't either). I've actually gotten busy lately unexpectedly, so you have in fact saved me some work.
That script sounds a lot like what I've got, the main differences being that Cronbot in its final form can also report unblock requests (a tentative that isn't necessary but given that it there is a section for it on WP:OP I suppose it might as well), it will do periodic checks to see which nodes have been blocked indefinitely, and it uses the PGP verification to certify it's the bot posting through the IPs. When you say "selection of a single tor out proxy", are you talking about dynamic/"anonymous" ones without names on public lists, or do you have a way to filter through IPs too? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:07, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Talking about the named, you can't specify the outproxy by IP. Obtaining the list directly from tor gives you the IP for all the out bound nodes. --pgk 20:18, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay, that's what I thought. About the list, is this one populated from the same kind of script that the Harvard link Cronbot reads uses? Because in my experience the online lists never seem to catch all the exit nodes, meaning there are open ones only findable by going through Tor itself (even if this is a temporary discrepancy between the actual network and what is listed). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:22, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Well the tor program itself gets the list by connecting to the directory servers which gives details of the server nodes available within tor and the capabilites (such as inbound, outbound restrictions on ports etc.). Servers dynamically register with these servers. By default there are 3 listed (or at least in the source I built from config.c - add_default_trusted_dirservers), my code only queries one of these servers, if you wanted certainty of getting everything I guess you'd want to query all three and any others you know of. --pgk 20:34, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
I'll add that this is a known weakness with TOR so it won't stay this way forever... --pgk 20:37, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay, then you certainly have a much more robust way of finding nodes than my way, which was just connecting by restarting the local service and then using torify wget to see what the current IP was via Special:Mytalk. Then I guess the only real question left is whether your script is equipped to post to somewhere like WP:OP. That seems to be the main use remaining for this bot (although I'm not sure I couldn't find some use for the PGP stuff). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:39, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Well it was only partially done, I was more looking at proof of concept than as a practical use on wikipedia. --pgk 21:00, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

User:Hank chapot

Who do you think you are, the popes defender? Where do you get off making all these reverts, and then apologizing for them?

Pope Benedict said he was sorry his islamic frienss were offended by his remarks in early September. This is a classic non-apology apology. Please alloe others to interpret the truth before you hit the revert button.

In September, 2006, Pope Benecict the sixteenth, after quoting an ancient text critical of Islam, made a similar non-apology. Rather than regret his intemperate remarks, the pope stated that "he was sorry he caused offense", rather than retract his statements.Hank chapot 01:44, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for cleaning up that trolling, but I prefer to keep comments like that on the talk page unless they're particularly malicious, slanderous, or rude. Any Chance?

...of going up for RfA? I'd feel a lot better about the level of vandalism on enWiki if you were a sysop. I know you have posted messages saying that you don't want it, but I really think that you would be a great addition, and would do a wonderful job. alphaChimp 06:23, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

You are too kind, sir, too kind. Even if I did want to, some things have come up lately and I wouldn't be around enough. It looks like you're doing a pretty swell job yourself, anyway, so what do they need me for? By the way, how's the mop going? Has it made you cynical and aloof yet, or are you still working on that? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:27, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, the offer will remain open for whenever you'd like to go for it. I'll check in every once in a while to see how it's going. As for the main reason why we need you-- in a word: convenience. It'd be a heck of a lot better if you didn't have to report vandal (I've seen your reports sit there for a while). Someone with your technical expertise could probably figure out a lot of cool ways to use the sysop tools (it might also help some with Cronbot and the open proxy issue). I've just been consistently impressed with everything I've seen from you. I'm not saying that you're perfect, but you have the courage to admit mistakes and to apply them towards your future editing (all this would go in the nom, btw). We could always use more sysops like that.
As for me, it's really gratifying to think I'm helping out the 'pedia. I've been doing a lot of NPP (the tools really help for that). It can be stressful and time consuming, but it's about the same as vandal fighting. As for being cynical and aloof...I won't even stoop so low as to respond to that. alphaChimp 06:55, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
As always, I really appreciate that, and I didn't mean it if my above joke(s) seemed dismissive. It's true that AIV isn't always constantly policed (and not to point fingers, but thank you for not making "make me an admin because no one is ever at AIV!" a focal part of your RFA, as I've seen a few admins get into office on this argument and then vanish from the CV front), but I feel like that's okay as long as I can keep tabs on who the vandal of the moment is. Like you, I didn't start editing here with the plan of becoming an admin someday, and since all I really do is RC patrol, I don't really feel tempted by the ability to block. I'm moreso afraid of instating bad blocks, and I'm quite aware that I don't have a firm grasp on all the important policies yet (mainly regarding images, many of which I really, really wish I could just delete on sight, like with the "Goatse" image uploaded earlier today for the sole purpose of vandalism).
On top of that, I'm really not eager to see how my calling someone a "petulant child" a short while back would go over at RFA, admitting mistakes or not. Also, it's really funny when a vandal occasionally accuses me of being in "the cabal".
But anyway, if I do decide to get off my high horse about adminship, you'll be the first person I beg for an RFA from. For now, I kind of think there are enough admins up and about most of the time and I'm not so sure if I would have the time or patience to learn how to use blocking powers artfully. I'm kind of starting to hate this username, too, so I don't know how that would factor in if I were to become an admin. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:18, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Edit on Michael Savage

First off, thanks for taking RC patrol. You're the first line of defense against vandals. That said, I've tried to edit the Michael Savage page a couple of times to clarify a wiki link, in the MSNBC section, where Savage's quote says "...eat a sausage, I hope you choke on it" (or something to that effect.)

The word sausage is a wiki link to the article for real sausages, but it is almost certainly NOT what Michael "I Hate Gay People" Savage meant in this context. Readers may be confused by the reference and, when following the wiki link for clarification, be all the more confused.

I tried to change the link twice, first to "Penis" and then to "Fellatio", which you may agree is more correct in context. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.226.170.248 (talkcontribs) 02:27, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for being a good sport about my silly edit summary, first of all. I think the best thing to do here is to delink "sausage" altogether. While Savage may dislike gays (I personally don't know a thing about him, including who he even is), it really just seems like an assumption to conclude that the use of "sausage" here is a phallic reference. Sorry if you think that sounds naive, but, again, I don't really see why this word needs to be wikilinked at all, especially considering that it may only serve to generate controversy.
Thank you for the kind sentiments, by the way. I appreciate it. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:34, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Now that I think about it, removing the link probably is the best solution; to do otherwise would make an inference that doesn't really belong here. And your unexpected edit summary scares me. I give it a C+; okay, but not great. :) futurama will rise again! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.226.170.248 (talkcontribs) 02:48, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
C+? Why are you grading it so highly? (Totally agreed on your evaluation.)
Seriously though, thanks for helping improve the article. I'll go ahead and proceed as discussed and remove the link if that's okay. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:51, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

MY DELETION

I posted that because that user had deleted my article which he had no reason to. My God! I have people deleting webpages with no problem no profanity, but an opinion slightly in it... I have people deleting my webpages for absolutely no reason at all, and now I have people deleting my opinion about someones opinion. I SWEAR WIKIPEDIA'S ARTICLE CREATING IS SO MESSED UP IT'S AS IF THE SITE IS USELESS! I mean why should I bother creating an artcle because it'll most likely be deleted because it has the word "the" in it... If you don't see the problems in it then you must be blind because[REDACTED] is about teaching, and I'm not even being allowed to teach... It's a wonder articles get created like "mastrubation" but an article talking about a school speech class is deleted... WHERE'S THE EQUALITY WIKIPEDIA???!!!!!!!

Al Qaeda

With all due respect, your editing of the Al Qaeda article is unnecessary. Adding the word "alleged" does NOT inflict my bias on the subject. I was implying that it may or may not have definately been Al Qaeda responsible. I did not say it was, nor did I say the converse. That's the epitome of neutrality. It may very well be Al Qaeda that was behind the attacks, but, if you look at the handful of books and documentaries that contest this (from all around the world) you can see that it is FAR from confirmed, as many people do not believe they had anything to do with it. Again, this is not my personal opinion, but to more than claim, but to INSIST that they were behind the attacks, with little evidence and much less than a unanimous agreement, is violating the neutrality policy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by All5Horizons (talkcontribs) 04:30, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

greetings

thank you for explaining me why i got blocked.

it seems i added too many times my link to may pages. yes indeed i added a link in pages that actually didnt have any links like in the majority of pages about mauritania for example. which means that, they are not good pages in terms of content. i do think i was enriching the content of the page while addind a link to my photo archive page in the section of mauritania.

http://photosaroundtheworld.wordpress.com/tag/photos/africa/north-africa/mauritania/

so how come this is considered to be bad? i mean links are good as they result on a external way of getting more stuff from a specific place.

while surfing in the other pages i was trying to add my link, i notice other link to photos, and i have to say mine is indeed quite aucrate and with good information. i don't consider it to be my site, or my personal website. my personal website is www.joaoleitaofoto.com which i never related it to anything.

strange to see how in this case spam cops (hehe sorry about the name) were not accurate. sorry bt i do not agree.

thank you

I totally disagree with the link spamming you've been engaged in. In a similar manner a spark plug manufacturer or tyre manufacturer, or a nut and bolt supplier, or an auto electrician, or a mobile mechanic, an upholsterer, a spray shop, a roll cage manufacturer or just about anyone remotely connected to the vehicle that is the subject of an article could put a link to their website on every page referring to a vehicle they could provide services for. You'd get the articles on cities full of links for every holiday company, airline and cruise line that went there, links to every car hire company on every page for a city and town that had a car hire depot nearby. Misplaced Pages is not a link farm and hopefully never will be. Hell I even own a car that is on your eligibility list which I drive regularly in Europe, I follow historic racing and rallying yet I still can't condone the link spamming / backdoor free internet promotion you were trying to achieve. It just isn't the way things are done here! M100 17:10, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Precious Williams

I reverted the recent changes (before yours) to Precious Williams because it seems like the editor actually stripped out a lot of content. I was about to replace the prod with an AfD but I see you beat me to it. I see you also reverted my reversion, though. I'll leave it as it currently is but you may want to check out the diffs to see if content really hasn't been lost. --Yamla 22:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh, okay. I'll go back to your version and keep the AFD tag on, then. Thanks. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Wrongful accusation

Dear Omicronpersei8,

I recieved a message about supposed vandalism. I don't know why, but you got the wrong person and I wish for an explaination or an apology as to why I have been wrongfully accused of vandalising the article in question- I didn't even know that that article exsisted.

Thanks for reading.

Your Edits to the Dell Article

Its interesting to me that you think you know more about Dell than i do. I am sure that you have worked for Dell for years since you beleive that what i put into the article was false, or even vandalism. The store in the mall in Dallas was just recently opened and everything i wrote was factual. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 143.166.255.40 (talkcontribs) 14:13, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh oh been meaning to ask you for days; what was the name of the linux program link you gave me that would allow me to partition my harddrive to run VS? At the time I only was getting may 100-200 kbs downloads and the 700Mb was just too frustrating. Now doing like 5 times that speed so would like to try again! Glen 02:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Knoppix? And actually, you won't need to partition your hard drive -- it should run in RAM. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:24, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Autism edit

Dear Sir, I finally looked at the message about editing the Autism page. Honestly, I don't think it was me personally, as I have only edited one page in my time using Wiki. That was the page of the Wisconsin men's hockey team with regard to their conference affiliation. I changed it from CCHA to WCHA, which is factually accurate.

This is a work computer so I'm not sure if others share this IP. I believe I have been to the Autism page at one time quite some time ago, but I don't think I edited it for anything. I really value the Wiki and take any attempt at editing very seriously, which is why I've only done it once.

I'm sorry if it was my fault. I think I will be creating an account to avoid this anonymity problem from now on. I hope you were able to recover any lost content from my or anyone else's mistake.

Peace,
AW —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.104.120.10 (talkcontribs) 16:09, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Keep an eye on this user... it appears his reign of terror only lasted on the night of the 14th, but he might come back for more. He kept posting "haced_la_red_de_Rad" and "haker killer" everywhere. I commented on his talk page, and looked for his IP in the Block Logs and didn't see it. Just a heads up! Thanks // 164.106.159.18 18:29, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Actuary

It is a fact that an actuary is a bookmaker to an insurance or assurance company insofar as they are both interested in the probabilities of an outcome. Please state why my edit is not factual and why i should not restore it.
Tayana 23:54, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

If you want to replace it, I won't fight you on it, but it looks like original research and conjecture. Could you please maybe clarify in the article how you came to that conclusion, perhaps even providing a source? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 00:00, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Another Self Appointed Small Minded Bureaucrat

It doesnt matter that you just blindly reverted something I wrote and silenced my opinion on a talk page. What matters is by your own descriptions of yourself you represent everything thats wrong with Misplaced Pages. Self appointed bureaucrats like yourself are as bad as the people who cancel out edits to forward their own moral agenda. Misplaced Pages rewards jerks like you who put in so much "effort" even though by your own admission you are an expert on nothing. And since I know you are sensitive to criticism, let me say "go die in a fire". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.10.18.77 (talkcontribs) 01:24, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

The edit's I made to the page http://en.wikipedia.org/Time_Machine_%28software%29 were valid. Time Machine is a trademarked name for Solutionsoft's date testing software. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Michaelmorrison (talkcontribs) 05:05, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, we can't generally accept content copied directly from commercial websites (in this case, from http://www.solution-soft.com/timemachine.shtml). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 05:10, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
