== Referencing a now deleted "Tweet" ==

Hi Keith,

I was hoping you could advise me on the best course of action that I should take regarding the following matter. I wish to reference a now deleted "Tweet" (aka. a message sent using Twitter) that was posted by a well-known local personality in the United Kingdom. The message was posted following the death of a now disgraced British celebrity in 2011, and I would like to make reference to the Tweet within this person's Misplaced Pages page. Whilst I am unable to find a URL for the Tweet in question, I did manage to capture it using screen capture software before it was deleted. I was wondering, therefore, whether I could reference this Tweet if I were to upload the image to Misplaced Pages and reference it accordingly? The only issue is that I do not have the URL for it.

Persian Gulf naming dispute

Hello - hope you're enjoying your holiday. I've reverted a number of edits at Persian Gulf naming dispute to restore the article to a state before vandalism. Unfortunately that means your edit here has been reverted for which I apologise, and hope you can reapply your work. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 05:20, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for letting me know. I have reapplied the date fixes to the latest version of the article. Keith D (talk) 10:49, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Another "Yorkshire-ish" page for you to please check RE my recent edits. I think that ref 14 - the book which is the same as ref number 1 - should have an IBSN number. Thanks as usual.

Problems

  • Some users have a problem with the watchlist. Some changes in categories make the watchlist a blank page. The developers are working on this. Until this is fixed you can try some things that have helped other editors if you have this problem. You can turn on Hide categorization of pages in your watchlist preferences. You can turn off Expand watchlist to show all changes, not just the most recent in your watchlist preferences. You can remove problematic categories from Special:EditWatchlist/raw.
  • There was a problem with the visual editor for several days. You could not save edits that triggered a CAPTCHA. This would for example be when a new user added external links in references. This was fixed on 2 May.

Changes this week

  • When you edit you can switch between the visual editor and the wikitext editor. This works if the wiki you edit has the visual editor. The menu will now say Visual editing and Source editing instead of Switch to visual editing and Switch to code editing. This is because it was confusing when the menu said you could switch to the editor you were already using.
  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 May. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 May. It will be on all wikis from 11 May (calendar).

Meetings

  • You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 9 May at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

  • You will be able to get a notification when a page you created is connected to a Wikidata item. This will come to Wikivoyage on 9 May. If there are no problems it will come to most Wikipedias on 30 May. It will come to other projects and English, French and German Misplaced Pages later in the summer. It will be opt-in for existing users and opt-out for new users.
  • Markup that looks like code for language variants might need to be fixed. If -{ is used in transclusions or web addresses it has to be escaped appropriately. You can use -<nowiki/>{ for transclusions and %2D{ in web addresses. A transclusion could for example be when you use -{ in a template: {{1x| sad :-{ face }}. This is because of some code fixes to the preprocessor and affects all wikis.

Recent changes

Problems

  • The mediawiki.util library does not load automatically any more. Your Special:MyPage/common.js may use it. If you have technical problems that started a couple of weeks ago you can try adding mw.loader.using( 'mediawiki.util' ).done(function(){ as the first line in the file and }); as a last one. Tech News wrote about this in the 2017/18 issue.

Changes this week

  • The RevisionSlider extension will be a default feature on all wikis. RevisionSlider is an easier way to move between changes in the page history. It has been a default feature on German, Arabic and Hebrew Misplaced Pages and a beta feature on all wikis. You will be able to turn it off in your preferences.
  • There is no new MediaWiki version this week.

Future changes

Older unreported changes

  • Your Meta user page is shown on all wikis where you don't have a local user page. You can now add the magic word __NOGLOBAL__ to your Meta user page to stop this.

Updated maps

Hi Keith; hope the time away has been good. Don't know is this is an issue or not but all the maps for Yorkshire are out of date, specifically they should have a blue line running up them to show that the A1(M) will be fully open this summer (some parts are already being used). I am assuming the maps are transcluded, but I don't know if this is an issue or not, or indeed to whom I should be reporting it to. See Settle for an example. Thanks Keith and regards. The joy of all things (talk) 22:10, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi, had a good break but will take me some time to catch up. Thinking about it the East Riding of Yorkshire maps are also out of date as the B1244 was reclassified as A1035 in 2013, there is also a new Beverley northern by-pass that opened earlier this year which is missing from the maps but that is not on the OS maps as yet. Nilfanion (talk · contribs) created the maps from the OS OpenData information may be you could ask them to see if an update can be done. Keith D (talk) 19:59, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

Aims

After discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire in April 2008.

Specific aims for the project are:-

  • To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles (See below)
  • To recruit more active editors (See Member News)
  • To bring our top level article Yorkshire up to Featured article status
  • To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
  • To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
  • To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

Priority Articles

The top priority articles that have been identified to date are as follows -

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.

Snap general election

With the calling of a snap general election there will be a lot of changes required to articles over the coming month to update the candidates and results for these in articles. There may be a set of new articles required for new MPs elected this time.

We also need to keep an eye out for any bias in articles about those standing for the election and to keep strict ballot paper order for the election results tables in the constituency articles before the results are know. We all have our views on this but we must remain as neutral as possible.

WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project

The June 2017 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.

Month Dates Article(s)
B class choice Start class choice
86 1 Feb 2017 ~ 28 Feb 2017 Yorkshire Terrier Victoria Hall, Saltaire
87 1 Mar 2017 ~ 31 Mar 2016 University of Hull West Burton, North Yorkshire
88 1 Apr 2016 ~ 30 Apr 2016 Oakwell Hall Xscape (building)
89 1 May 2017 ~ 31 May 2017 Pickering, North Yorkshire York Wagon Works
90 1 Jun 2017 ~ 30 Jun 2017 River Don, South Yorkshire Alex Zane

Please nominate future articles for improvement at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire.

Please bear in mind...

The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.

  • Monitoring is essential
Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
  • Moves
Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.

Tech News: 2017-23

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

  • You can see new files on Special:NewFiles. You can now pick which dates you want to see files from.
  • When you read Misplaced Pages on a mobile device the first paragraph now comes before the infobox.
  • You can now remove navigation elements from your results when you search. This could for example be part of an infobox that is only there to help you find the previous or next article.
  • New users on Wikivoyages and Wikipedias (except French, English and German) now get a notification when a page they created is connected to Wikidata. Other wikis will get it 13 June.

Problems

  • The MediaWiki version from two weeks ago was rolled back. It was fixed late last week. Changes that were planned to go out last week did not happen.

Changes this week

  • Wikimedia wikis can show fewer links to articles in other languages. This is to make it easier to find the languages likely to be useful to the reader or editor. Everyone can still click to see the full list. Logged-in users who use the compact language links will see languages they have in their Babel box on their user page in the first, shorter list. You can turn the compact language list off or on in your preferences.
  • You can choose what dates to look at when you look at a user's contributions.
  • When you click on your watchlist in the mobile view you get a list of all pages in the watchlist instead of the latest changes to them. Logged-in users with at least ten edits will now get the latest changes instead.
  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 June. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 June. It will be on all wikis from 8 June (calendar).
  • String comparisons in Scribunto modules are now always done case-insensitively by byte order. Before they were sometimes in a case-sensitive US-English collation order. This could break some modules.

Meetings

  • You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 6 June at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

  • The 2006 wikitext editor will be removed the week of 27 June. This is the old toolbar with small square blue buttons. You can see a picture of it. 0.03% of active Wikimedia editors use this old tool. They will not see a toolbar at all.
  • Wikimedia wikis use OCG to create PDFs. The OCG code has a lot of problems and will stop working. It has to be replaced. An alternative is Electron. You can tell the developers what you need the PDF service to be able to do. Electron already works on German Misplaced Pages. It will be on English Misplaced Pages later this week so you can test it there too.
  • The Architecture Committee will change and get a new name. You can read and comment on the draft that describes the new committee.

Tech News: 2017-24

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

  • Some wikis have the larger and brighter OOjs UI edit page buttons. When you write an edit summary there you can now see how many bytes you have left before the summary is too long.
  • When you search on Misplaced Pages you can now find pages on other Wikimedia projects that could be relevant. You see them next to the search results.

Changes this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 June. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 June. It will be on all wikis from 15 June (calendar).

Meetings

  • You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 13 June at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

  • You will soon be able to get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account. You can test this on the test wiki. This will only work if they fail to log in to your account.
  • Wikimedia wikis use OCG to create PDFs. The OCG code has a lot of problems and will stop working. It has to be replaced. An alternative is Electron. You can tell the developers what you need the PDF service to be able to do. Electron now works on all Wikimedia projects.
  • Administrators can soon search for deleted page titles and find results that are similar to what they searched for. Today the search only finds pages that are exactly the same as what you search for. This is to make it easier to find pages when you don't know the exact title. Administrators on Arabic, Catalan, English, Persian, German, Italian, Polish, and Russian Misplaced Pages and on mediawiki.org can test this by adding &fuzzy=1 to the end of the web address when looking at Special:Undelete.

Changes this week

  • irc.wikimedia.org has to be rebooted. This will probably happen on 21 June. It may be postponed. Some tools use this to get the recent changes feed. They will not work when it is down.
  • Special:PageData will be an entry point for machine-readable page data.
  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 June. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 June. It will be on all wikis from 22 June (calendar).

I'm confused

Removing a G12 because it's been previously prodded? Also, FWIW, I went back on my own A7, because I figured I would give someone else the chance to look at it, who might be more "hip" and know whether it could be saved. TimothyJosephWood 17:53, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

It looked as though there had been a previous speedy deletion of A7 and as there is supposed to only be a single speedy on an article I removed the subsequent tag. Keith D (talk) 17:56, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Keith D What do you mean one single speedy on an article? An article can and should be tagged with multiple criteria if it fits and while I'm not contesting a non-deletion on a 50% copyvio, I'm not sure I understand what you mean? Articles can and are speedied repeatedly. It's one of many reasons we have {{salt}}.CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 18:00, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict)I... I'm pretty sure you're confusing PROD and CSD. An article can be tagged for as many CSD criteria as it's eligible for. And even if A7 had been declined (instead of me really just "passing" by removing my own tag after having second thoughts), having an A7 declined doesn't really reflect on whether it's eligible for other criteria, and definitely not one with legal implications like G12.
PROD is the one that can be challenged by anyone, even the creator, and it shouldn't be readded, but that's only another PROD, and itself doesn't affect CSD or BLPPROD at all. TimothyJosephWood 18:02, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Huh? Articles get tagged (appropriately) with multiple CSD criteria all the time. Also, removing a copyvio tag without removing the related copyvio? I'm also very confused. I think you goofed, it's OK, mistakes happen. Waggie (talk) 18:06, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
You are right it is PROD that is only a single event which is what I was alluding to in the edit summary. Sorry I was not thinking straight, as I keep loosing the connection at the moment, will reverse. Keith D (talk) 18:11, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Umm... assuming Chrissy was successful in removing the bit that was copyrvio, it's not exactly eligible for G12 any more, since that requires no non-infringing content on the page worth saving. I think the most it needs right now is a revdel of everything from this edit backward. Unless I'm missing something, the article's probably gonna stick, unless someone who knows more about it than I wants to go to AfD, but looking around the web, I have my doubts. "Timothyjosephwood I'd say this is a pretty decent G11 candidate but I cba to deal with it at the moment. Also worth noting the creator's username + record label name... CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 18:22, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Possibly G11. The creator has been recently warned (by myself) for COI editing. Let's let the dust settle a bit before continuing, though, please. I'm sure the editor is confused and upset right now. I say we give them a chance to improve it further before tagging it with anything else. Waggie (talk) 18:27, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
I have removed the restored G12 and redacted the text of the earlier revisions. Hope that sorts it for now. Keith D (talk) 18:29, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Salt End

Hi Keith. I have revamped Salt End because there were tags stating citations were needed and also because most of the information was hideously out of date. However, I noticed that I had left some typos behind and I cleaned up after myself, but there's a good chance I have missed some. Could you swing by when you have time? Thanks and regards. Nomination of Tranby Croft (band) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Tranby Croft (band) is suitable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages according to Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Tranby Croft (band) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. —Anne Delong (talk) 05:03, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

St Helen's Church, Kilnsea

Dear Keith, I see you started Kilnsea and I'm wondering if you know anything about the Church of St Helen there? I found it while doing a Geograph search for something else entirely. It certainly looks like Burges's work, but I can't find it in J. Mordaunt Crook, who is rarely in error. However, the 2005 Pevsner/Neave Yorkshire:East Riding says "Built at a cost of £420, of which £150 was contributed by 'Mr A. Burgess, a civil engineer of London'. The plans were provided free by his two sons - one of whom was the architect William Burges." I can't find it on the Historic England site, though it must be listed if it is Burges. Google suggests that it's now a private house, and may have fallen into the sea! I'd be fascinated to know anything about it and could add it to the List of buildings by William Burges. Thanks in anticipation. KJP1 (talk) 12:41, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I cannot find any details of it being listed - the only listed structure in Kinlsea appears to be the Acoustic Mirror. The previous church is the one that fell in to the sea, this one was built to replace it. The account of the consecration in the York Herald, 29 April 1865 page 9, says "Burgess, Esquire, C.E., Blackheath, Kent, who contributed £150, and the designs, plans, and specifications for the buildings". The church was still standing in 2015 when I took a couple of photos of it and it is not that near the sea to have fallen in to it. I suspect that the pub and the road would go first. It was de-consecrated in the 1990s and looked rather overgrown and unused in 2015 so may have since been converted into a residence. Keith D (talk) 13:59, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
Many thanks indeed. It is fascinating - I cannot work out what he was doing in that remote part of Yorkshire, why his father should have made a significant donation, why we don't know who the patrons were and why Crook doesn't mention it. One would think there may be some connection with Bewholme Vicarage, they're too close for coincidence. His big Yorkshire patron was Ripon. Were they Ripon livings perhaps? Definitely worth some further investigation. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 16:43, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
Here is another snippet that may throw some light on it from the Yorkshire Gazette - Saturday 22 April 1865 page 4 "But the great liberality of Mr. A. Burgess C.E., of Blackheath, who having occasionally passed the place on his professional visits to Spurn Point and struck with the poverty of the place, having heard that an effort was being made for building a church, most kindly offered plans free of all expense, and gave £150 towards its completion;" Keith D (talk) 18:35, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Keith (Talk page stalker) - still have you on my watchlist after my request about Salt End (thanks for tidying that BTW). KJP1 - I had seen some stuff when I was re-writing the Yorkshire Coast article; there is a pastscape listing and also a book listing which suggests the church has an octagonal font. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 18:47, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

All very helpful. So, is the answer that Burges Sr, visiting Spurn Point for his engineering work (what were Walker and Burges doing there?), gets his sons (?) to draw up the plans and chips in £150? Did Burges Jr ever actually go there? All very interesting and certainly worth some more digging. Thanks to you both and best regards. KJP1 (talk) 20:32, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
Keith, have now created the article, here, Church of St Helen, Kilnsea. You don't have an online reference for the 1865 Yorkshire Gazette, by any chance? KJP1 (talk) 08:14, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
I have added reference detail to the article. Thanks for creating. Keith D (talk) 10:31, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
This James Walker (engineer) tells me that he was Chief Engineer to Trinity House, leading to considerable involvement in the construction of lighthouses. And Alfred was his partner in Walker and Burgess(s). And this was built by Trinity House at Spurn Head in the early 1850s. Is that what Alfred was doing? KJP1 (talk) 09:01, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
Many thanks indeed! KJP1 (talk) 10:47, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
  • To round this tale off, I've submitted a listing request to Historic England, following their confirmation that the church isn't listed. It bloody well should be. It really is surprising where Misplaced Pages sometimes takes you. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 21:11, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project

The July 2017 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.

Month Dates Article(s)
B class choice Start class choice
87 1 Mar 2017 ~ 31 Mar 2016 University of Hull West Burton, North Yorkshire
88 1 Apr 2016 ~ 30 Apr 2016 Oakwell Hall Xscape (building)
89 1 May 2017 ~ 31 May 2017 Pickering, North Yorkshire York Wagon Works
90 1 Jun 2017 ~ 30 Jun 2017 River Don, South Yorkshire Alex Zane
91 1 Jul 2017 ~ 31 Jul 2017 Asking Alexandria Aike Beck

Recent changes

  • There was a problem with maps on Wikimedia wikis that used <mapframe> when you clicked on the link to another map service. Open Street Map or Google Maps are examples of other map services. If you had marked a place on the map the marker would not be in the same place on the other map service. It was in the middle of the map. This has now been fixed.

Changes this week

  • Very old and inactive unpublished translations in the Content Translation database will be removed. This is because of technical maintenance. If you have not worked on a translation after 1 January 2016 you will lose it after 6 July. If you want to keep the unfinished translation you need to open it before 6 July with the Content Translation tool. You can continue working on it later. Translations that were started or have been worked on after 1 January 2016 will not be affected.
  • There is no new Mediawiki version this week.
  • EventStreams is a new way to show activity on Wikimedia wikis. It works with the recent changes feed. It will do more things later. It will replace RCStream. Tools that use RCStream should move to EventStreams before 7 July. Tech News wrote about this in the 2017/07 issue.

Recent changes

  • There are sometimes links to pages about the same thing on other Wikimedia projects. A Misplaced Pages article about Berlin can link to the Wikivoyage guide or Wiktionary entry about Berlin. You can now see when that page has a badge. A badge could be the star that shows that an article is a featured article.

Changes this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 July. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 July. It will be on all wikis from 13 July (calendar).

Meetings

  • You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 11 July at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

  • Mobile users will be able to edit Misplaced Pages without JavaScript. This will make it possible to edit the wikis from older mobile phones. This will probably happen on 18 July for most wikis.
  • We will not use Tidy on Wikimedia wikis in the future. It will be replaced by June 2018. It could be earlier. Editors will need to fix pages that could break. You can read the simplified instructions for editors.

Help

Could you please look into SubRE's editing history, he is vandalising pages I've created and it all seems fishy, my full real details social networking profiles and phone number will be given to you if asked

PS Hull is lovely!was there last weekend Asouko (talk) 10:53, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi, glad you liked your visit to Hull, hope that you took in some of the City of Culture events that are on while you were there.
Had a look at their editing history and apart from a couple of previous edits that seem to be valid from last year, all they appear to be doing now is trying to get rid of things by Phase (band) with deletion requests for a number of their song articles. They also appear to have removed some of the referencing to the main article, some of which were dubious, such as the facebook one, but some of the others look to be OK. Not an area of expertise so would not know if they were considered reliable. Will have to see how the ADF's go as looks like there is another delete in there from an established editor. Keith D (talk) 21:25, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi Keith Hoping that you can check some new edits on these two pages - Glen Affric and Lupton family. Your comments on the talk section of the Lupton family page are again welcome - we hope that you can comment again how the page should still be given an "up-grade" - given that it is a very well-researched (thanks often to you!). Assessment
Assess and review
As of 28 July 2017, we have assessed 100% of all articles with a project banner.
(Some new and additional article talk pages may still require a banner however)

WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project

The August 2017 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.

Month Dates Article(s)
B class choice Start class choice
88 1 Apr 2017 ~ 30 Apr 2017 Oakwell Hall Xscape (building)
89 1 May 2017 ~ 31 May 2017 Pickering, North Yorkshire York Wagon Works
90 1 Jun 2017 ~ 30 Jun 2017 River Don, South Yorkshire Alex Zane
91 1 Jul 2017 ~ 31 Jul 2017 Asking Alexandria Aike Beck
92 1 Aug 2017 ~ 31 Aug 2017 The Scott Motorcycle Company Belle Vue (Doncaster)

 Thanks

Problems

  • You can get an email when a page on your watchlist was edited. You can choose not to get emails for minor edits. There is a bug that means that you then don't get an email when someone does a normal edit after a minor edit. The developers are working on fixing this. Until it has been fixed you can activate "Email me also for minor edits of pages and files" at the bottom of "User profile" in your preferences if you want to.
  • The thanks button sometimes didn't work for mobile users. This was because of a new bug and has now been fixed.

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 August. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 August. It will be on all wikis from 10 August (calendar).

Future changes

  • Editors and readers who still use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP will not be able to use Misplaced Pages. Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP can't connect securely to the wikis. When we allow them to do so it means that we get less security for everyone else. If you use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP you can install Firefox 52 ESR instead. Around 0.1% of the traffic to the Wikimedia wikis comes from Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP.
  • Links to sections on Misplaced Pages don't work well in languages that don't use the Latin script. The URL in the address bar in your browser shows Latin characters like .D0.A1.D1.81.D1.8B.D0.BB.D0.BA.D0.B8 instead of the section heading in the wiki's language. Links to sections in non-Latin scripts will be in the script of that wiki in the future. This will happen in the next few months.
  • Wiki pages printed by the web browser "Print" function will have an updated style. This new style will be similar to the when you download a page as PDF. It will be better at showing tables, infoboxes and headings.

Michael Palin

Dear Keith D

Yesterday I altered Michael Palin's entry on Wiki........as you are aware I altered his place of birth from Broomhill, Sheffield to Ranmoor, Sheffield. From what I can establish you appear to have altered it back again. I've emailed Wiki and asked for my change to be reinstated.

Regards

Paul (Michael Palin's office)

I chnged it back as it was changed by an IP editor without supplying any explanation and reliable source to support the change. Keith D (talk) 19:05, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Cathy Barry

Hi. A few months ago, an article on the famous UK porn star Cathy Barry was deleted with only 3 votes in favour - evidently very few editors noticed. Would appreciate it if you could help, as it seems bizarre that an article on a clearly notable figure can just be deleted on the say so of so few editors?!

92.18.55.1 (talk) 12:00, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

The current entry is essentially the same as the one that was deleted so the present WP:G4 deletion will probably occur. The only substantial new material is the material relating to her husband so is not really relevant to her notability. You will need to provide some more substantial references that support her notability and add then to the article before the deletion request is actioned, or detail them on the talk page. If you think that the previous deletion was wrong then you could try Misplaced Pages:Deletion review, but read the criteria there before nominating or it will not succeed. Referencing a now deleted "Tweet"
