Sorry about that. I was reverting the vandalism of the person who posted before you, and I missed your addition. Didn't intend to blank your part of the article.--] 22:26, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
:No worries :-) I know it can be hard to keep vandals out and have removed content on accident myself before too. -] 22:28, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
::I decided to test that little link in the corner that says "block log." I hope I don't get into trouble for that. Apparently it affected more than I expected it to.--] 22:30, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
:::The block log link shouldn't affect anything - it should just list the times that a contributor has been blocked, who by and what for. Unless you've found a secret block log button that I don't know about... --] 23:11, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
::::Weird. I followed the links and came to a request form to unblock him. I guess you can request that even if he isn't blocked.--] 23:17, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
:::::I think you must've accidentally clicked 'unblock' on the page that comes up when you click 'block log'. That produces a screen that sounds like the one you spoke of. I don;t think you could have done anything with it thought since you're (presumably) not an admin.--] 23:43, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Re ], there are such a thing as nonverbal spells. It sure looked like a nonverbal Imperius to me (I did read the book. Twice). Read up on nonverbal spells. You don't have to actually say the spell/curse/charm in order to invoke it (remember when Harry blew up his aunt?)

| |||
How else is Voldemort supposed to force Harry to do something? Only one spell I can think of - a nonverbal Imperius. Sure it doesn't say in the book it was a nonverbal Imperius, but you do the math. - ] (] • ]) 20:20, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
:Did you actually try reading the book, or were you just trying to be offensive? The exact quote from the book is this;
::"I said, bow," Voldemort said, raising his wand- and Harry felt his spine curve forward as though a huge, invisible hand were bending him ruthlessly forward, and the Death Eaters laughed harder than ever.
:When the book described the imperius curse earlier, it described a light-headed, pleasant sensation, not a push from behind. The spell was undoubtably nonverbal, but it was entirely physical.--] 20:36, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Hope you like it here, and stick around.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Misplaced Pages:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Misplaced Pages:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!

I use a modified monobook.js file to add tabs to the top of user talk pages. If I click a "header" button the "Regarding your..." is automatically imputed, and if i click a "testx" button the warning and my sig is added. It works even faster. I have to thank OwenX, who set it up for me.

Gay
Hi,
Yes, in this context Gay and Lame have similar meanings, but I don't think that's really the point. The pejorative use of gay probably derives from steroeotypes of effeminacy, so has roughly the same meaning in this context as other pejorative terms relating to effeminacy - "you pussy" etc. They are generally broadly synonymous with other terms for feebleness or weakness - limp, lame, pathetic etc. Ironically I guess "gay" may have become popular with children precisely because it's a non-gendered term for feebleness, and so can be used by girls as well as boys. My step-daughter sometimes uses it, even though she has only a hazy idea of what homosexuality is. However the pejorative use is also connected to the meaning "kitsch" which is connected to Gay stereotypes of flamboyant bad taste. So it's a aquired a specific set of distinctive connotations. Limp and Lame, in contrast, are direct extensions of the primary meaning of "lacking rigidity" and "unable to walk effectively" and probably derive from the use of farm animals, horse etc for practical purposes. In other words Limp and Lame are directly connected to the primary meaning. They are not pejorative stereotypes, just natural extensions of the main meaning of the word - like using "bald" to mean undecorated. That example is not derived, indirectly and pejoratively, from bald people, rather both meanings (undecorated; hairless) derive directly from the main meaning. The same applies to Lame. It's not derived from pejorative reference to disabled people. In contrast the term "gay" when used pejoratively is entirely derived from stereotypes of homosexual men, and uses those stereotypes to create a term equating gayness with feebleness and bad taste. The difference is that the lame usage derives from the denotation and the gay usage derives from the connotations of the word. Paul B 09:47, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, since it was my talk page he kept vandalising, I felt entitled to xD — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 05:12, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Lucky bugger! I've had my userpage messed up once, and now my talkpage screwed up 3 times. Somehow, having your page vandalised is such a badge of honour :D Well, Alphachimp's indef blocked him, so we can forget about that one. On to the next nutter! — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 05:18, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- You may be excited to learn that he did it one more time, but anonymously. Blocked immediately by Alpha. Vandalism gives me the willies Ahahaha, get it? Get it? ... Sorry. — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 05:39, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

- I gather it's a banned site?--Vercalos 05:55, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, just geeky :D And I'm meant to be doing work, so I'm getting suspicious looks from people who keep seeing the blaring orange bar on my page (oh, and the freakin' penises, even though they show up pretty small in the popups). On another happy note – I've officially hit vn-5. Time to run for adminship!!! :p — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 06:09, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- I honestly have no idea what that is..--Vercalos 06:10, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
