Uppsala (population 189,569) is a city located about 70 km north of Stockholm in Sweden. It is the site of the oldest university in Sweden, founded in 1477. Uppsala also has a Gothic cathedral, one of the largest in northern Europe, with towers reaching 119 metres. The cathedral can be seen from miles away in the very flat field landscape. Carolus Linnaeus lived in the city for many years, and both his house and garden are to be seen in Uppsala. There is also a castle in Uppsala, built by the kings of the sixteenth century.
