Vincent Margera (born July 3, 1956 in Concordville, Pennsylvania) is the uncle of Bam Margera and Jess Margera. He has appeared in the shows Viva La Bam and Jackass and the various Camp Kill Yourself videos. He is better known by his nickname Don Vito.
Biography
Vincent Margera is the older brother of Phil Margera, brother in-law of April Margera and uncle of Jess (CKY band drummer) and Bam Margera. He is unmarried, and before his arrest (see below), he lived in West Chester, PA. His home can be seen in Haggard: The Movie and various episodes of Viva La Bam.
Margera is usually referred to as "Don Vito", a nickname given to him by nephew Bam referring to his near unintelligible speech reminiscent of Don Vito Corleone, of The Godfather, as well as saluting the Margera family's Italian heritage. Bam's hero and HIM singer Ville Valo used to use the nickname "Don Vitto" which Bam borrowed to refer to his uncle Vince. It comes from the Finnish swearword "vittu", meaning "pussy".
Unlike his brother Phil, who is depicted as kind, easygoing and quiet, Vito is loud and obnoxious. He usually has something offensive to say about anyone and everyone. This is probably why he is the target of a lot of pranks pulled by the CKY crew. Margera is obese, and is often difficult to understand while speaking (especially when frustrated and/or angry), forcing subtitles to be used for much of what he says in Viva La Bam. Even then, much of his dialogue is either gibberish or unintelligible. He also has strabismus and makes no secret of his love for the female form, particularly breasts.
Arrest
On Friday, August 18, 2006, Don Vito was arrested at the Colorado Mills Mall in Lakewood, Colorado for allegedly groping two underage girls (ages 14 and 12) inappropriately at an autograph signing and subsequently held with bail set at $50,000.. He posted bond around 10 p.m. the following Monday. As a condition of his bond Margera was ordered not to possess any alcohol, drugs, weapons and is not permitted to contact the victim. Additionally, he cannot leave the state of Colorado.
Trivia
- Has an indentation in his back which he attributes to being hit by a baseball when he was young. Bam convinced him to get a heartagram tattoo in "the dent" while they were in Vegas.
- Had the name "Bruce Springsteen" tattooed on his rear end for an episode of Viva La Bam. Don Vito is a big fan of Springsteen. He did it to say that Bruce Springsteen was always on his ass.
- In response (and perhaps, as a sign of begrudging respect) to Don Vito stealing, and later destroying, Bam's beloved Hummer (something of a payback for Bam constantly wrecking Vito's vehicles), Bam had a caricature of Vito tattooed on his calf. (Note: This caricature vaguely resembles the "Andre the Giant Has A Posse" caricature)
- His lines in Haggard: The Movie were completely unscripted, as Bam Margera usually just got him worked up and let him ad lib.
- According to his mother he "...almost died once from over-eating and drinking." This refers to a situation in which he went into a coma in Tampa, Florida for two weeks after an eating and drinking binge that was performed on The Ron and Fez Show during a contest called "The Binge Bowl". Later, Vito was crowned "Binge Bowl Champ."
- Lives in Bam Margera's old house.
- Ate the top of Phil Margera and April Margera's wedding cake, on their wedding day, for which April has never forgiven him.
- Appeared in an episode of Celebrity Deathmatch against his nephew Bam Margera.
- Served in Vietnam as a cook.
- Don Vito could also be seen in Right Guard commercials before his arrest.
- Is a lifelong childhood friend of Ron Bennington of the Ron and Fez show.
- He has been declared persona non grata among the Jackass cast and crew, and all of his scenes were removed from the theatrical release of Jackass: Number Two, due to the scandal surrounding his arrest. However, those scenes will be available in the DVD release, since they were already shot prior to the arrest, and some were even shown in previews for the film.
