Literotica is one of the most popular erotic text sites in existence, with nearly 25,000 registered authors (as of late 2005) contributing about 100,000 stories, poems, essays, illustrated stories and audio stories in a huge variety of categories. While primarily a site hosting hundreds of thousands of stories, the community that uses Literotica, both creators and fans, is also served by a message board.

Literotica's message boards are lesser known than the stories posted on the site, but still extremely active nonethelss. Inside the message boards are many different forums from which users can choose one or all forums to frequent. These deal with topics such as Amateur Pictures, the Author's Hangout, Roleplaying and Sexual Roleplaying, as well as the unmoderated General Board. There is also a How-To forum and a place for writers to seek advice, and the BDSM and GLBT communities are also represented.

Members of the message boards, also known as 'Litizens' or 'Litsters' often meet in what are known as 'Litogethers.'
