The FixMeStick® is a plug-in bootable USB device that scans your computer before it starts, the FixMeStick removes infections that conventional antivirus software can’t detect. Montreal internet security veterans and entrepreneurs, Marty Algire and Corey Velan, started FixMeStick in 2011 with the desire to provide consumers with a simple way to clean viruses from their computers at home. The FixMeStick is available for both PCs and Macs.
History
2011-2013: The FixMeStick was developed with the purpose of providing an easy-to-use routine virus removal solution for everyone. At the time of its launch, it was compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, and later added support for 8, 8.1, and 10 when each were released. By 2012, the FixMeStick was launched and was available through the FixMeStick website and Amazon. In 2013, the FixMeStick was available for purchase in major retail stores in Canada.
2014: On January 15, Algire and Velan appeared on CBC Television’s Dragons’ Den. They asked for a CAD$500,000 investment in exchange for a 20% share and each dragon made an offer. A Kickstarter campaign was launched shortly after their appearance on the show to design a FixMeStick for the macOS. Over 1000 backers pledged to hit the 50k dollar goal, and the first FixMeSticks for Mac were shipped out to backers on June 6, 2014.
