The town has a unique place in India since it is the only Parliamentary constituency which produced a President, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy and a Prime Minister, P.V.Narasimha Rao though both of them were not locals of Nandyal. Narasimha Rao got elected from Nandyal with the highest majority of votes in independent india and perhaps in the world.
