JCI Insight is a peer-reviewed biomedical research journal founded in 2015 and published by the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI). JCI Insight is the second ASCI publication since the founding of the Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI) in 1924. The first issue of JCI Insight was published January 21, 2016.

Scope

JCI Insight publishes well-executed, high-quality research across biomedicine that presents a focused yet insightful line of investigation. The journal represents an expansion of the ASCI’s longstanding commitment to disseminating preclinical, translational, and early-phase clinical research that has the potential to advance the practice of medicine. A companion to both the JCI and JCI Insight, titled JCI This Month, summarizes and highlights content on a monthly basis.

Evaluation and peer review of research

JCI Editor Dr. Howard Rockman of Duke University serves as the first Editor in Chief. Manuscripts are adjudicated by a team of academic (Rodger Liddle, MD, and Yiping Yang, MD, PhD) and professional editors (Sarah Jackson, PhD, and Corrine Williams, PhD). A consulting editorial board of experts representing a wide range of medical disciplines aids in the peer review of submitted papers. JCI Insight considers direct submissions; in addition authors who have had manuscripts externally reviewed at the JCI believed to be more suited to JCI Insight are invited to have their work considered by JCI Insight without re-review. The process is quick and efficient, with minimal requests for revision.

Business model

JCI Insight is a nonprofit publication of the ASCI, with an Editorial office in Durham, North Carolina, and publishing office in Ann Arbor, Michigan. All JCI Insight articles are freely available online upon publication. Revenue derives from article processing charges to authors for published articles.

Open access

All JCI Insight articles are freely available at the time of publication at JCI Insight's website. Although authors of research articles must transfer copyright to the journal prior to publication, JCI Insight allows liberal noncommercial reuse of article information. Authors may deposit their published articles in academic and other repositories. Authors may use and distribute their articles and the information contained therein following the fair-use doctrine of US copyright law. For those research articles authored by employees of the US government, no copyright applies, and these articles are considered to be in the public domain. JCI Insight is indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed (NLM ID 101676073) and the Emerging Sources Citation Index, and deposits all articles in PubMed Central.
