Manaan is a fictional planet in the Star Wars universe. It has been a visitable planet in the 2006video gameStar Wars: Empire at War and in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (where its first appearance was) . The planet is completely covered in water, except for Ahto City, a large city made by the Selkath , the native species on Manaan. It was once the galaxy's most important planet besides Coruscant for being the sole planet where kolto , a plant with natural healing properties far more effective than the modern bacta , is grown. Kolto harvesting and shipping was/is the planet's central industry. The Selkath exploit this resource financially, selling it to both sides in wars (In KOTOR, they supplied the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic . In The past they have threatened to destroy the source of kolto, and sink Ahto city should either side in a war attack them. The planet has several oceanic swoop-racing courses, Many hotels and cantinas, During the War with the Sith empire it hosted both the Sith and Republic embassies. It also has underwater research stations that are frequently attacked by firaxan sharks that defend the kolto and its young. It was once a member world of the Infinite Empire, and concealed a RakatanStar Map For the Star Forge in its watery depths. Template:Spoiler During the Jedi Civil War, Darth Revan arrived to Manaan to find a Star Map hidden at the ocean floor deep under Ahto City. However, in order to reach it, Revan is said to have, either, poisoned a giant firaxan shark, or destroyed the Hrakert station secretly built by the Republic to harvest kolto near its source. Some sources say he poisoned the shark, also poisoning the kolto supply, and he was banished from Manaan forever, because the shark was believed to be the Progenitor, the kolto's keeper and source. Other sources claim Revan did not kill the shark, but destroyed the Kolto harvester, earning respect from the Selkath. During the time of the Empire, Manaan was a wasteland. Mud covered islands and dirty rafts with savage beasts atop them, who were the only living things above water. They were enslaved, but Palpatine, recognizing the species, decided that they would be far better warriors. He assigned Darth Vader, his apprentice, to guide the Force sensitive Order of Shasa to become more of the Empire's weapons. In the game Knights Of the Old Republic, Revan meets a Force sensitive young Selkath named Shasa, It's assumed that the order was named after her. After The Battle (and loss) of Endor, the Empire left Manaan.
