Hello Jeh, |
An FYI that I'm following up on a comment you made on this user's talk page on April 12 ]. Since you left your comment, he is continuing to remove branding on radio station pages, hasn't answered your comment on his talk page, and hasn't reverted any edits of this sort as you asked him to do. I've reverted several of these edits to pages that I've edited and frequently visit. |

: Thanks. As far as I can tell he's never responded to anything on his talk page and his use of edit summaries is all but nil. |

: However, I feel that his removal of "FM/HD1" or "Analog/HD1" list item subheads from the "Format" parameter is legit. After all, we don't say "Analog" or "FM" (or "AM") in the format parameter for a non-HD station. So "Analog/HD1" can be assumed, and removing it reduces clutter in the infobox. ] says nothing on this point either way. As I pointed out to him, it does support, by example, the inclusion of the branding in the "lede sentence". Thanks for your efforts. ] (]) 15:39, 14 April 2018 (UTC) |

::Hi Jeh, |

::I appreciate your post and points of view. I however must disagree with your reasoning in removing/omitting the “Analog/HD1” (or “FM/HD1”) label. Here’s why: when I add content to any WP article, I assume the audience is the general public, and in the case of radio station pages, that the reader has no technical knowledge of any kind, especially about HD Radio. Your assumption, that Analog/HD1 is assumed, I believe, relies on the reader already understanding HD Radio and how it basically works. I don’t believe we should be making that assumption, considering that most people don’t even know that HD Radio exists, much less how it works. With that in mind, leaving off the Analog/HD1 label might impart the idea in the reader’s mind that the main program is FM (analog) only, and that an HD Radio receiver would simply add the ability to listen to the subchannels. Including the label makes it obvious that the main program is offered “in HD” as well as “the old fashioned way” that they can already receive. |

::Your post, though, points to a problem I believe really needs to be fixed—that there are no guidelines about this in ] (or the Template:Infobox radio station page). Those of us that edit a lot of radio station pages, admins included, need to fix this. A consensus should be reached and new guidelines introduced to these WP pages so that we all are on the same page and aren’t reverting each others edits. I admittedly don’t know how to do that, but I’ll see if I can figure it out and get the conversation started. |

::: "how to do that" - easy! Just start a new section at ], describe the problem, propose a solution, and wait for responses. IME (see ) you'll be waiting a while, but that's how to start. I completely agree that a standard should be codified. For a few other things, too. ] (]) 17:44, 15 April 2018 (UTC) |
