Main page says that the Alba Bible, the first translation of the Old Testament into a Romance language... -- But the Vulgate, which was written in Latin, was written a thousand years before the Alba. Surely you'd agree that Latin is a Romance language, which means that Alba was not the first. --Keeves 14:56, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- The article on Romance languages states "The Romance languages, a major branch of the Indo-European language family, comprise all languages that descended from Latin, the language of the Roman Empire. " By this definition, Latin is not a Romance language, since it does not descend from itself. 71.249.235.23 16:44, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- It appears to nevertheless be an error or at least disputed. I relied on the Spanish language article and its references for that fact, but this appears to confirm an earlier translation. However, do these other bibles include the Old Testament? The word bible alone can be murky. It may be that it is correct that this is the earliest translation of the Tanakh, but until this is clarified I suggest we hedge our bets and change the DYK to: "That the Alba Bible, one of the earliest translations of the Old Testament into a Romance language...
